Kell Brook vs. Amir Khan to be announced?

Post by Enlightened-One »

Kell Brook, who’s looking a tad heavy but has apparently already commenced training, has told iFL TV that he’s signed a contract to face Amir Khan.

He says he’s just waiting for Amir to sign the paperwork before the bout will be officially announced.

Brook claimed Khan was originally lined-up to face Conor Benn intsead, but he feels that fight won’t happen now, because Amir can earn a much bigger payday facing himself.

On a side note, Kell Brook currently favours Terence Crawford to beat Shawn Porter.

Thoughts?

Amount of time since their most recent victory over a credible world-rated opponent:

• Amir Khan - 6½ years
• Kell Brook – 7 years

The amount of time that transpired to score their last three victories (against journeymen):

• Amir Khan - 6½ years (suffering losses to Canelo and Terence Crawford during the same time period)
• Kell Brook – 5½ years (suffering losses to Gennadiy Golovkin, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford during the same time period)

Last time they won a fight:

• Amir Khan - 28 months ago
• Kell Brook - 21 months ago

How the hell does Eddie Hearn (via Matchroom/DAZN) sell this fight? :o

Is this more or less interesting than Hatton vs Witter in domestic British fights that should happen but never did.....even if it does happen at this stage, but now 4-5 years after it should have done?

January 9th, 2015: The RING welterweight ratings:

Champion - Floyd Mayweather Jr.
1 - Manny Pacquiao
2 - Kell Brook
3 - Amir Khan

4 - Tim Bradley
5 - Juan Manuel Marquez
6 - Shawn Porter
7 - Keith Thurman
8 - Robert Guerrero
9 - Marcos Maidana
10 - Diego Chaves

Amount of victories either Brook or Khan have scored over legitimate top-ten world-rated opposition since that date? NONE!!! :o

According to several media sources, the Brook-Khan bout will fought at a catchweight of 150lbs.

One surprising development though, is that despite Eddie Hearn claiming he was considering making the bout a few weeks ago, apparently the contest will be televised by Sky Box Office, rather than DAZN, which suggests another promoter may be staging the fight.

Also, the venue for the fight is apparently the Manchester Arena, with the official announcement scheduled for next week.

It might be seven years too late for my liking, but this might be an entertaining affair, because it’ll inevitably be more about which veteran has declined less being the likely victor.

And none of us really know who that is, because these guys rarely compete.

My money is on Khan though, because suffering one-punch KO’s is far less harmful on a fighter’s career than being on the receiving end of several bone-crunching brutal beatdowns.

Also, the fact that Khan’s clean-living Muslim lifestyle, coupled with the fact he doesn’t gain much weight between bouts, means he’ll likely be better preserved than the Hamster cheek Hatton-esque Kell Brook.

Brook was essentially ruined by Crawford by a jab thrown from close range and then Kell pretty much immediately gave up, compelling the referee to stop the fight when the Brit turned his back on his opponent. This suggests his resilience is gone, but I don’t know if the cause is psychological or physical.

I don’t really have a “horse” in this proverbial “race”, but I hope these completely shot veterans at least make a fight of it, rather than looking for the exit door as soon as soon as things start getting rough.

That said, I have this horrible feeling that this bout is going to be a blatant cash-grab farce. And I really do hope I’m ultimately proven wrong about this.

If I was Khan I'd wait Brook out and try to get a Mayweather exhibition.

Khan just needs to wait a few more years and he’ll get the Mayweather fight. It will be worth it, what’s 2 or 3 more years in the scheme of things. That’s what I’d be telling him anyway.

This they both have a bit of drawing power and are both British, this fight would probably sell all right. I think Kell Brook is comfortably favored, though. In terms of close and consequential matchmaking, I'd prefer something a little more like... Kell Brook vs Abel Ramos / Danny Garcia / Vergil Ortiz and Amir Khan vs Conor Benn / Adrien Broner / Kudratilo Abdukakhorov.

brook gave spence a good fight. did everyone expect him to beat ggg or crawford for reals? u gotta give it to him to take those fights. the firepower just wasn't there. he get's shit for coming up the short end in challenges other's are critised for not even taking.

similiar with khan. he got caught versus canelo & crawford! you don't say!

both are excellent technical fighters with lightning fast hands, just not the best of chins.

neither is 'completely shot' but surely couple of years past their primes.

will definitely a nice fight to watch if it really gets made.

Spence was nearly 4 years ago, GGG took something from Kell that he never got back. He was 31 when he fought Spence, he is 35 now. 30 was probably his peak. Some carry on to their mid 30's like GGG before they slide. Unfortunately Kell isn't that lucky. He was a very special fighter, I just wish we had seen more of him in his peak.

In 2015, after Brook win over Porter and after Khan win over Alexander, this would be megafight. Today i would not even watch this on youtube

I think any time before May 2016. Both were at, or very near the top of their game. GGG hadn't taken Brook's soul, and Canelo hadn't cracked Khan's noggin.
I would watch it on YouTube, no way will I pay them cash out money from my hard earned wedge. It will be a little sad because of what could have been.
