Who can Canelo beat ... ? Opinions needed

I don’t think there’s a man alive at 160-168 who can beat him. Beterbiev could beat him and maybe Bivol at 175. Callum Smith would maybe beat him at 175. Canelo picked him at just the right spot.

Beterbiev is the only one in his weight range that I believe he will not beat. Everybody else from 160-175, I think he is the favorite & will be victorious. Even if he fights GGG, he may lose the fight as far as fans/viewers are concerned but the judges will give him the victory

while i don't disagree on canelo vs. ggg 3, it still seems you exhausted your knowledge of fighters from 60 to 75 in that one statement if u think canelo is unbeatable in his 'range'.thomasjkelley wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 02:11 Beterbiev is the only one in his weight range that I believe he will not beat. there are plenty we will never see him take on because of the simply fact that he just couldn't beat them. with or without 'biased' judging.

Canelo fought Callum Smith when the Brit had entered his ninth year competing at 168lbs and engaging in his fourth world title bout at the same weight.
Callum Smith was The RING champion at 168lbs, the WBA’s super world 168lbs titleholder and also the winner of the 168lbs WBSS.
It wasn't a cherry-pick.

Not trying to take anything away from Canelo. Just perfect timing really. It was smith’s his last fight at 168. And he himself said that cutting the weight had become too much. Punched out his Canelottery winnings and then moved on up.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 06:34Canelo fought Callum Smith when the Brit had entered his ninth year competing at 168lbs and engaging in his fourth world title bout at the same weight.

Canelo has always had careful matchmaking. When he did struggle, judges bailed him out. He's a great boxer, but will never be an all time great. He was schooled by a 36 yr old welterweight. Arguably lost 3 other fights, (GGG X2, Lara)and very close in another. (Trout)
Beating GGG when he was in his prime 2 yrs earlier would have been impressive. People actually want to see a 3rd vs a 40 yr old GGG?
Beating Kovalev 3-4 yrs earlier in his prime would have been impressive.
Now, if he beats a 36-37 yr old Beterbiev?
Personally, I'd rather see him fight Bivol. Two other good fights are Benevidez and a stylistic nightmare fir him-Andrade.

He cant beat anyone bigger than him since size is so important.
Re: Who can Canelo beat ... ? Opinions needed
Sorry man, you're a good poster but I'm personally offended by the suggestion that a 175 Callum Smith could beat Canelo. Smith lost due to a deficiency in skills. From memory, he was not able to land a significant punch. I appreciate that Smith may perform better at 175 but that is a far cry from beating Canelo.

Yes, that's my concern, they wait another year or two, looking for signs Bertebiev is on the slide, then take the fight, and most likely impose some sort of rehydration clause.Bandog wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 19:51 Canelo has always had careful matchmaking. If he's going to go to 175, I'd like to see him take on fighters in their prime, not nick belts from fighters on the slide looking for one last payday.

Callum Smith's loss was due to him facing to a vastly superior fighter.bobcatbox wrote: ↑15 Nov 2021, 17:57Not trying to take anything away from Canelo. Just perfect timing really. “My weight was OK [against Canelo]. I hit the number I said I wanted to hit. I felt good.
“And maybe I was reading into [my weight ] too much, but it’s hard to feel strong when you can’t hit [Canelo] clean.
“In the end, when you’re throwing and you’re missing, you can’t commit to your shots, because you think they’re probably going to miss anyway.
“That was probably [Canelo’s] biggest asset. He’s so hard to hit clean. When you’re letting your shots go at him, even the ones that do land, he kind of rides and takes all the power out of them.
“It just deflates you a little bit. It doesn’t feel like you’re putting a dent in him.”

Re: Who can Canelo beat ... ? Opinions needed
It seems that some people still feel that Beterbiev beats Canelo.
I expressed the following opinion on the 21st October 2019:
Artur Beterbiev is on the cusp of turning 37 years of age.
The only time he’s fought within the last 26 months, was his lacklustre performance against Adam Deines, who not only possessed a padded resume, but was also unrated, unheralded, and unaccomplished.
The Russian can’t beat Canelo. It won’t happen… ever, because fighters approaching their forties can't improve, especially those that are inactive and rarely competes!

I still possess the same opinion, because Beterbiev hasn’t done anything since that date to persuade me to revise my thoughts… in fact, his performance against Adam Deines actually solidified my beliefs.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑21 Oct 2019, 10:15Anyway, don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Canelo face Artur Beterbiev, but if the Mexican faces the same version of the plodding Russian that fought Kölling and Johnson, then I’d expect I’d expect a comfortable and quick victory for the often despised fighter.
Beterbiev lacks head movement, his work-rate is too low, he loads-up on his punches, his hands aren’t particularly fast, he blocks shots using a high guard rather than avoid them using footwork/upper body movement, he's been dropped and staggered on multiple occasions etc.
Artur Beterbiev’s style is tailor-made for Canelo.

It appears that I’m massively outvoted and outgunned on the point that Smith could take Canelo at 175. I respect the hustle, fellow posters.
