Matchroom RIP
Major problems for the the Matchroom organisation in 2022 going to really struggle to fill UK DAZN Tv slots with they’re current stable ?? Thoughts ?
Re: Matchroom RIP
When you have money and tv deals you will never have problems finding fighters.Floydendizer wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 20:19 Major problems for the the Matchroom organisation in 2022 going to really struggle to fill UK DAZN Tv slots with they’re current stable ?? Thoughts ?

It's their own fault, all the gimmicks have been found out. I think the lack of getting the football crowd in is badly hurting them. By all accounts their ticket sales for many shows now are really struggling.
In their quest for world domination, the UK/Ire market has been neglected.

Re: Matchroom RIP
Matchroom will just sign kiko and the Baumgardner next week. I think they will try and get Warrington in with Kiko next more money. Galahad doesnt make them money.

Re: Matchroom RIP
I dont think its that grim. critical year though, I think Leaving sky was probably a mistake, the sky machines media hype effect cant be overstated.
Dont think tonight has sunk them though....
-They get a rematch to build that Kid G should win if he takes enough rest and loses a bit of muscel while doing it.
-Terri harper rematch is a tough ask, but i dont think Terri would be driving DAZNs finances anyway...
-CBS had a decent win and although he showed he isnt world levle has plenty of fun euro levle match-ups, Could be used as a Co-main on 3 or 4 cards next year if they are smart about it.
If Connor Benn and Buatsi lose.... Then you can start calling panic stations.

Re: Matchroom RIP
Absolutely in many ways, as weird as it sounds, upset loses are the best thing to happen to a promoter if they have options or rematch clause on the opponent. Remember Don King not looking too upset when Holyfield beat Tyson.gregregegg wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 20:54 I dont think its that grim. critical year though, I think Leaving sky was probably a mistake, the sky machines media hype effect cant be overstated.

Obviously long term if your charge loses and loses then his appeal might dimish...but short term the reward of rematch will be far bigger than the original fight.

Re: Matchroom RIP
im not sure how bad kid losing is for matchroom tbh, if anything this would just encourage a kiko-warrington rematch to get the belt to a more popular matchroom guy
but dear lawdy, matchroom's shining star and oft headliner tel harper taking a hard loss, that might be end game
what will they possibly do with harper on a loss and new worldwide sensation sav mitchell gone?

Re: Matchroom RIP
Harper can't train for a rematch against someone bringing heat she can't handle. And she can't avoid it playing long for ten rounds. That's two of the belts unobtainable right there.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 22:33 im not sure how bad kid losing is for matchroom tbh, if anything this would just encourage a kiko-warrington rematch to get the belt to a more popular matchroom guy

Moving up has it's issues as well.
There will definitely be some head scratching on her future, which is worthwhile because she sells tickets, well she did tonight.
Re: Matchroom RIP
What they can do is actually put on some shows in the early part of the year , when otherwise there is hardly anything .
Captive audience .

or what they could do is put on shows with competitive fights and prove that the game has changed.

normaly id agree, but i dont know if its the time to say he isnt putting on compeditive fights, they might not of looked it on paper but... of his bigger recent cards...forcefraser wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 04:11 or what they could do is put on shows with competitive fights and prove that the game has changed.

-Kid G lost. Terri harp lost, Mikey Garcia lost, AJ lost, Soto lost, shan Courtny lost... If anything things are getting a bit too compeditive for ol eddie hearn as of late.
Re: Matchroom RIP
With the global brand it is getting a bit like UFC. No one really says "bad night for dana" when Mcregor loses. Only really with AJ he was truly gutted cos hed just signed a huge deal and Ùsyk will never have the cross over appeal of AJ.gregregegg wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 04:19normaly id agree, but i dont know if its the time to say he isnt putting on compeditive fights, they might not of looked it on paper but... of his bigger recent cards...forcefraser wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 04:11 or what they could do is put on shows with competitive fights and prove that the game has changed.

Re: Matchroom RIP
hes never gonna shift tickets for any fight like he did without the sky powerhouse constantly plugging his fights, doing youtube interviews watched by a couple of thousand people wont do shit. Big mistake leaving Sky.
Re: Matchroom RIP
Does Buatsi sell tickets ? I doubt anyone bar a boxing fan would know of him and even casual fans would have difficulty recognising himgregregegg wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 20:54 I dont think its that grim. critical year though, I think Leaving sky was probably a mistake, the sky machines media hype effect cant be overstated.

Young Eddie got ahead of himself. Also why tf is he trying to promote shows in Italy , Spain etc no one cares about boxing there.
Re: Matchroom RIP
Fast eddie comes with the champ and leaves with the champ.
Matchroom is a global brand with a global viewing platform and its success doesnt rely on the Brits doing well.
Galahad is no loss as he doesnt put bums on seats

DAZN markets. I'd say there is a small hardcore fanbase in both countries.high tower 1 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 06:59 Young Eddie got ahead of himself. Also why tf is he trying to promote shows in Italy , Spain etc no one cares about boxing there.

He wanted to dominate world boxing, got way to big for his boots, remember him constantly going on about how he was taking over America's boxing too.high tower 1 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 06:59 Young Eddie got ahead of himself. Re: Matchroom RIP
all these promotional outfits were starting up these franchises in other countries, there was like mtk japan and warren doing poleand and all that too, seemed like a silly competition to see who could rule the world

The problem is the money on Sky wasn’t there to put on shows - with any level of depth.gregregegg wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 20:54 I dont think its that grim. critical year though, I think Leaving sky was probably a mistake, the sky machines media hype effect cant be overstated.

Out with PPV nights - the other Sat Night fight nights the rights fee per show would be Miles short of the money needed for competitive cards.
They’ll sign 5-6 Olympians for next crop.

Re: Matchroom RIP
One issue is British fighters seem to retire much earlier than other countries like US or Mexico. Look at Kilo last night.
By the time most of the fighters get to world level after fighting journeymen for years, they don't last there very long. The Mexicans turn pro much younger too. So they are around a long time, look at Canelo and many others.
Too much inactivity, too much mismatches. Then when they finally step up they get exposed.

Buatsi is another. Guy has fought cans for 5 years his entire career. Barely been in with a live opponent. Now he's been thrown in with a legit top 5 heavily experienced guy. I would not be shocked at all if he lost.tony1234 wrote: ↑14 Nov 2021, 06:58Does Buatsi sell tickets ? As for Benn, well Ava would likely cut throw him. Been protected from punchers. Heck hasn't even fought domestic guys like McKinson, Essuman or Kelly who would likely give him serious trouble.
There's only so long you can pad a record before fighting a live opponent. All were seeing now is as the Bible said "separating the wheat from the chaff".

About time Frank Smith stood up , it’s alright going from the tea boy to boxing CEO just seems to be Eddie’s puppet .
