Is Artur Beterbiev Next For David Benavidez?
“I’ve been thinking about that lately,” said Benavidez to Fighthub when asked about his thoughts of beating Canelo to the punch by moving up to 175 to fight the winner of the December 17th match between IBF/WBC light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Marcus Browne.

“So maybe we could probably do that too, but we got to sit around and see what the best option is and go with that,” said Benavidez. “If it’s 175, then f*** it, we’ll go up to 175.”
@ BN24

The question is, what are the chances for Benavidez to be in position as mandatory for wbc lhw title ? Can he ask wbc to make him mandatory for the wbc lhw title ?

Marcus Browne is Artur Beterbiev’s mandatory challenger.

The Russian champion will be allowed to engage in numerous voluntary defences after he’s beaten the American.

Also, Beterbiev is a Top Rank fighter that is in line to face Canelo, whilst Benavidez is with the PBC, desperately trying to face the same Mexican.

I can’t imagine the handlers of both men agreeing to stage a high-risk low-reward cross-promotional cross-network bout involving both men, because it isn’t a mega-money event. There's more to lose than there is to gain.

We shouldn't forget the fact that David Benavidez isn’t even the mandatory challenger for the WBC’s 168lbs title, so he can’t lobby for the right to acquire that status in a higher weight class he’s never officially competed in.

Canelo may choose to face Benavidez next (as a voluntary), but I suspect he won’t because he has bigger and better fish to fry.

Benavidez needs to finally face a decent opponent to earn the privilege to engage in a meaningful marquee bout.

Instead, he’s choosing to compete against lacklustre opposition whilst bemoaning the fact no one is giving him huge opportunities.

He's doing the same things Andrade and Charlo are doing.

Yeah, pretty much ain't gonna happen.

Indeed its only up to Canelo if he wants to fight Benavidez. But realistically Benavidez has no notable win on his resume.

Benavidez vs Zurdo Ramirez/Joshua Buatsi @ 175 would be some nice fights. :box:

I will watch Benavidez v anyone. Nobody is beating that kid without a fight.

Charlo, Andrade, Plant, C Smith, J Smith, Bivol, Beterbiev, Ramirez, and (obviously) Canelo v Benavidez are can’t miss.

None of them will have to go find him in the ring.

Yup. The thing with Benavidez is he needs a good name on his resume. The top guys from 175 would be good fights for Benavidez.

Benevidez is youngish and already struggling with 168. 175 seeems the natral progression. If i were his managment id be simultainiously lobbying for for my chances at 175, while trying to work out if you have any realistic chance of fighting canelo at 168.

Canelo has been after the biggest best fights, and i think that is benevidez if he wants to defend his 168 belts, so he is definatly a chance, Needs some clarity, and honestly i think team canelo would tell him where he stands rather than purposly fornicate him around, being mexican.

With Canelo, Benividez, Mung and Zoro going amazingly I would be shocked if canelo dosent pick one of them for a guadalahara homecoming some time soon (Id do it now, then after that move on to the undisputed 175 mission for potential GOAT status.)

Benavidez is an exciting fighter and won well at the weekend.
However, he'll have to do a lot better than that before thinking about Canelo or Beterbiev.
He's still young and could probably do with a few more fights if you ask me.
His defence needs some work on and there's a few other glitches in his style that could do with adjustments , he's got plenty of time and should think this through, why rush it he's in a good spot right now.

Against a natural middleweight that only received 16 days’ notice (having previously only scored three victories within the last four years against journeymen suffering poor form, with only of those wins coming against an opponent weighing more than 160lbs).

Is that uncommon ?
It's a filler inner fight.
Boxers take short notice fights all the time.
