Terence Crawford is phenomenal

Post by DrDuke »

He's a true sweet science master, a complete operator with polished game, a remarkably fast and elusive gawd of boxing, a reincarnation of the all time greats like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Pernell Sweet Pea Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The Bud has it all. Only some promotional issues held him back. Now he's free, so let's hope for the proper matchups and enjoy the moment. Such boxers don't appear every day. You gotta be extremely gifted and dedicated for that. No Spence born from his mother is on that level.

Crawford's fights are always like boxing lessons. The elusive grandmaster provides an art of hitting and not getting hit time after time. That's pure boxing gold.

What impressed me even more is fact how strong he is, especially coming from lower weights.

In the post fight interview, Crawford emphasized that he doesn't need to fight Spence. Doesn't have that profoundly insatiable Desire to. I don't mind if they never have That so called fight of the ages.
There are plenty of others that I'd be equally interested in,as a boxing fan,or even more-so interested in.

Spence isn't much better than Porter, after all best Spence could get vs him was a split decision victory. The way that Spence walked out when Porter got knocked out was just pathetic, "oh no he koed him, now everyone is gonna know that he's much better than I am and that's just so unfair.".

If poor camp rumors are true, with Porter getting handled by Tank Davis, maybe he wasn't at his best, obviously since he retired so suddenly.

Always be wary of thinking because B beat C better than A did, that B is automatically better than A.

It's not always the case as we know.

Styles, variables and the state of the fighters at the time of the bouts are all key.

Hasn’t Errol always looked like shit though? What did you think of the walkout?

I wouldn't say Errol looks rubbish, just that he maybe lacks the discipline of Crawford.

He can get drawn into suggests unnecessarily and such like, thus making his fights tougher than they need to be.

The walkout was pathetic though: he shouldn't have bothered to attend.

Spence behaved like a b!tch after Crawford's win, avoided a confrontation with Bud and said salty stuff to Porter and his dad. He's in a losing position now. If he fights Crawford, he'll be slapped, if he avoids Crawford with comments like after Bud-Porter, he'll remain seen as a b!tch.

Terence Crawford's rehydrated ring-weight when he was competing at 135lbs was often heavier than many big-name welterweights (i.e. Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Robert Guerrero etc.).

When Crawford defended his 135lbs title against Yuriorkis Gamboa, he entered the ring weighing 152lbs.

Less than seven hours before the official weigh-in for the Raymundo Beltran bout, Crawford had to shift more than 5½lbs to make the 135lbs weight limit. He had to resort to extreme measures to make weight, which resulted in him being too drained to stand up during his media interviews. He subsequently gained 18lbs within 24 hours, when he eventually entered the ring for that fight weighing 153lbs.

Crawford’s ring-weight when he defended his 140lbs title against Viktor Postol was 157lbs.

Coincidentally, Marvin Hagler “officially” weighed 157lbs the very same day of his world middleweight title bouts against Roberto Duran and Mustafa Hamsho.

Terence Crawford posted a tweet of his weighing scales illustrating the fact that he weighed 177lbs between training camps whilst holding titles at 140lbs.

To put that number into context, Kell Brook weighed 176lbs and Marco Antonio Rubio weighed 174½lbs during their 30-day weigh-in’s for their middleweight title bouts against GGG.

A gentle reminder, the official weight limit for the welterweight division is only 147lbs.

That's pretty insane.

Would be interesting to see how he fared at 160.

Imagine, how much time Crawford wasted with mismanagment. He could whoop Spence a couple of years ago, move up and handle Charlo with the others by this moment. Today he could have MW claims.

That is boxing in the day before the fight weigh-in era. Those are the rules. Most boxers drain mightily to make weight.

I was Crawford’s biggest fan prior to 2018, but then he chose the pay cheque over sporting legacy when he extended his contract with Top Rank.

On one hand, he made the right choice, because he was paid more than his commercial worth, but on the other hand, he wasted four years of his career engaging in lacklustre bouts.

Crawford knew the consequences of his decision when he made it, so he wasn’t really mismanaged.

That said, the nightmare is over and now he’s able to fight anyone he damn well wants.

And it’s such a shame that most of the big-name welterweights from a couple of years ago have either retired, moved weight classes or are well past-their-primes.

The only fight at welterweight that really whets my appetite is Crawford-Spence Jr.

Bud facing anyone else would just be poor timing (too late or too soon).

I’d favour Crawford over Spence Jr, partially due to Errol’s inactivity and the long-term issues he’s facing due to the car crash.

I currently favour Jermell Charlo and Jaron Ennis over Terence Crawford though.

Terence Crawford is a phenomenal boxer who has made excellent business decisions that have provided security for his family, given him time to be a father and role model, and have protected his longterm health.

Now he can have 1-3 more big paydays and get on with what is really important in life.

Same day "official" weigh-in's during Hagler's era.

"Rehydration weight" refers to what a fighter actually weighed on the day of the fight, obtained by the networks. It was unofficial information (not required by the commissions or governing bodies).

HBO & Showtime used to capture the "rehydration weight" of their fighters and publish this information when the boxers were doing their ring-walk.

You're right though, most boxers nowadays lose and then regain weight immediately before and after their official weigh-in, but Crawford nearly always entered the ring much heavier than his opponents.

Unfortunately, rehydration weights are no longer captured - we can only take a fighters word for it.

He was mismanged. Being signed with a one promotion doesn't obligatory drop opportunities to fight with ones, who are signed with the other one. Top Rank just didn't do anything for that until now.

I'll pick Crawford confidently over Charlo, he is better than him in everything and beat the superior opposition. Ennis is good by the eye test, but he's unproven.

I'm curious, people are dissing Spence for leaving the arena? Was he obliged to stay? Some boxers are criticized for staying, and coming into the ring afterwards. Double standard?

Confronting winners is obviously a good thing, firstly for boxers. It's a way to make fights and to promote them. Since Spence didn't do that, he probably didn't want a part of Bud.

The Crawford-Porter bout was a PPV exclusive to ESPN, via Top Rank.

Crawford is unlikely to work with Bob Arum again, which means he probably won’t appear on ESPN again.

Errol Spence Jr. is with PBC/Fox/Showtime.

And Top Rank/ESPN didn’t pay for him to attend the Crawford-Porter bout.

Spence Jr. no longer has no reason to consider facing anyone aligned with ESPN & Top Rank.

Terence Crawford is currently a free agent. He might decide against working with the PBC/Fox/Showtime.

If the PPV buy-rate for Crawford-Porter is poor in comparison to Errol’s own bout against Shawn, then Terence will either have to accept being on the B-side, accepting a smaller purse split, or the fight won’t happen.

I guess I don’t need to go any deeper with my explanation, but appreciate this… “fear” wasn’t the reason why Spence Jr. left the arena early. He's not a child.

Crawford is the biggest matchup for Spence in this division today. Only Pac would be bigger, but he retired. It was in Spence' intrest to promote him against Crawford, especially acknowledging that Crawford had become a free agent. Spence needs Crawford, until he move ups.

The fight would have already happened if Crawford would have taken less than a 50-50 cut. He deserves it now I think buty didn't then based on revenue each brought in, and opponent they fought at 147.

I think Spence has other plans for his next fight before Crawford. See how he does after his eye surgery and after a layoff. So no, Spence isn't obliged to do any promoting just because fans want it. Crawford even said recently he doesn't need Spence.

They both aren't obliged to anything, except making money for themselves. However, today their biggest payday in this division is fighting each other.
