What Now For Dan Azeez?
What Now For Dan Azeez?
So we all got a good look at Dan Azeez against a known quantity, and live dog in the form of Burton.
I was impressed at his speed, punch selection and accuracy for a 14 fight pro.
He said he wants the traditional route- to me that means Area, British, Commonwealth, Euro, World.
He has won his area titile
He has won and defended the British.
Lyndon Arthur holds the commonwealth and WBO intercontinental - is he ready for the loser of that?
Bolotniks has the Euro- maybe a step to far for now.
Where next for Azeez?
What do you make of him?
What is the next step up?

Burton is a known quantity and a decent fighter and Azeez won at a canter.KiwiRider wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 12:19 So we all got a good look at Dan Azeez against a known quantity, and live dog in the form of Burton.

Does that suggest that Azeez is that good or Burton was finished, tbh I dunno, because doing that to a prime Burton would suggest he is def ready for a Euro in his next fight.

I actually think Bolotniks would be a good fight. He had a closer fight with Burton than Azeez did and may have dropped a level after the tough fight he had with Buatsi.
Bolotniks isn’t the European champ though I don’t think.
I’d like to see him in with Richards but can’t see it happening. I wonder where he is promotionally and signing for Boxxer will make the good domestic fights tricky.

That would give him a chance at commonwealth and the WBO intercontinental which is one level below their silver if I understand it correctly.

Frenchman Mathieu Bauderlique has the EBU that would be a good fight next year.
Bolotniks is a good shout too. Shakan Pitters domestically?
Important thing at 32 is activity, get out again as soon as possible against these guys

I don’t think Arthur wins his next fight to be honest but if he does then he’ll see himself a level ahead of Azeez so I can’t see it happening.KiwiRider wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 13:17And Lyndon Arthur?maverick23 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 12:46I really liked his performance last night.KiwiRider wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 12:19 So we all got a good look at Dan Azeez against a known quantity, and live dog in the form of Burton.

I don't think he's ready for Arthur yet. Needs a couple more step ups. Arthur probably looking at world titles if he beats Yarde againKiwiRider wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 13:17And Lyndon Arthur?maverick23 wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 12:46I really liked his performance last night.KiwiRider wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 12:19 So we all got a good look at Dan Azeez against a known quantity, and live dog in the form of Burton.

Still, one punch in LHW.. And I'm often wrong in close matchs which is why I rarely bet on them.

Same mate, I can't call Yarde Arthur 2 either could win, should be a good fight!KiwiRider wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 13:29peter barlow wrote: ↑21 Nov 2021, 13:25I don't think he's ready for Arthur yet. I think Arthur has the measure of Yarde, well that's how I felt towards the end of their first fight went even though it was pretty close.

The old light middle is fairly dead on world scene at the moment! Although I suppose we did have an undisputed fight this year so not all bad

Great performance v Burton, absolute domination to be honest. Would be happy to see the Bolotniks fight next, haven't seen Bauderlique yet - is he useful?

What is the thing where he drops both hands in an odd way in front of him though?

Who have I missed?
Dixon stepped in with a couple I think? Moore and Macklin a bit after? Adrian Stone on the fringes, but often in US….

Good additions. How can I forget Lockett. That power was awesome at times.
Re: What Now For Dan Azeez?
Showboating, once he found Burton's power to be not a threat. Big turn off for me. He was egging Burton in. Well that's how I saw it. That means to me he needs his future opponents to be stepped up. Too many knockovers and his head will swell too much.Old bones Ian wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 09:05 Liked what I saw with Azeez, looked good.

To me the fight looked like a muscled grown man beating up a 15 year old. Too strong

Yeah - I often think quite a few of Joe Gallagher’s fighters stay too long at a weight.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 14:00 To me the fight looked like a muscled grown man beating up a 15 year old. Too strong
It was similar with Callum Smith against Canelo. He may not have won a round regardless of the weight but he did seem long overdue a move up.
There’s a big difference between making weight and being strong at the weight.

Could he do anything at cruiser? He'd need to add on significant weight. He did not look right at all the other night. I wonder how much he cuts down.

It can’t be healthy for a guy that tall to fight at that weight. Moving up to cruiser is the right decision and there’s some fun fights for him there. I can’t see him picking up any meaningful wins though.peter barlow wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 14:40Yeah he looked so scrawny physically, he's 6"4 I believe.maverick23 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 14:05Yeah - I often think quite a few of Joe Gallagher’s fighters stay too long at a weight.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 14:00 To me the fight looked like a muscled grown man beating up a 15 year old. Agree maverick, he's taller than many heavyweights, he had nothing on him the other night he was so stick thin.maverick23 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 14:44It can’t be healthy for a guy that tall to fight at that weight. The cruiser division isn't particularly stacked domestically compared to light heavy so he could give it a could go and grow into it.
