Who knew that November would turnout to be the best boxing month of 2021?

Press Release | Zhang Zhilei vs. Bernardo Marquez Added

Undefeated heavyweight Zhang “Big Bang” Zhilei (22-0-1, 17 KOs) is set to face Bernardo “El Tarzan” Marquez (14-4-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday, November 27th at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City.

Marquez, a southpaw from Southern California, is riding a six-fight winning streak. The ten-round bout will be streamed live on DAZN as part of the Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos show presented by Matchroom Boxing. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.

Zhang is coming off the most peculiar and scary bout of his career. In February, he faced Jerry Forrest (26-4-1, 20 KOs) in Miami. Forrest had never been knocked down as a professional and was dropped three times, once in each of the first three rounds by the former Chinese Olympian’s powerful blows. In the fourth round, Zhang began to noticeably slow down, and struggled to stand up through the last half of the bout, allowing Forrest to catch up on the scorecards and achieve a draw.

After the bout, Zhang’s condition continued to deteriorate and he needed assistance to return to the locker room, where he nearly collapsed. Paramedics rushed to his aid, and Zhang was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

After a series of tests, doctors determined that Zhang was severely dehydrated to the point of kidney failure. He remained in the hospital for three days where he received treatment and observation before being released.

“It was frightening,” Says Zhang. “My organs were shutting down during the fight. I didn’t know what was happening.”

Immediately after returning home, Zhang continued to consult with doctors, nutritionists, and athletic specialists.

“I have completely changed my diet, my strength and conditioning training, and I focus greatly on how much water I drink every day. I feel stronger than ever and I can’t wait to get back into the ring.”

After fully recovering from the medical complications that took place during the Forrest bout, Zhang ran into unexpected delays that kept him out of the ring. He was originally supposed to fight in June underneath the same main event that he finds himself under now (Lopez vs. Kambosos) - until that fight was KO’d due to Lopez contracting COVID-19. That bout continued to get rescheduled over and over again, and in a series of twists and turns now lands at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

On paper it's a horrible undercard bout. Four time loser vs man who almost died fighting another 4 time loser.

I stopped following the Lopez-Kambosos soap opera after the second cancelled date and I did a right thing, as the bout would be cancelled 174 times more. I won't believe, that their fight gonna happen, until the sound of the opening bell.

When Hearn/DAZN took over, I was reassured we’re finally gonna see it.

That's exactly how I saw it. I ignored all the speculation and bullshit and now it's upon us and I've been spared all the nonsense and arse-ache.

Teo is incredibly solid, skilled, and strong for his weight. I expect him to win by KO, but it will be a war as long as it lasts.

Even if Loma wasn't 100%, he deserves massive credit for that win at this stage of his career.

I'm still predicting a Kambosos win. There is something right about that guy.

There's a lot right about him but this is a big step up.

Lopez looks lean and mean and I don't like the way Kambosos is looking to Lopez for weaknesses. Instead he should beore focused on his own strengths.

Lopez has surprisingly quick reflexes for a fairly static flat floored fighter.

It will be quite a shock if Kambosos can wear him down over 12, but it's not impossible. Especially after the extended training camp he's had.

The judging should be interesting too.

They are trying so hard to sell this fight. First time it didn't work it. Now they push it so hard.

I think Lopez will win this fight and I'd like him to get Haney.

Lopez is very skilled and he has that pop. It would probably be a hard right counter that would stop Kambosos. :box:

Just read if Teo wins, he's vacating all belts and moving to 140 instead of fighting Haney.

Now I'm hoping he loses, although I understand if he's got a fight lined up with Taylor, why not. He's a big 135lber, and could probably fight at welter too.

You know, you and EO should talk up some of your favorite boxers instead of mostly denigrating them or their fans that like them.

There's a big difference between fans like you and me. I don't straddle the fence and stay safe. I support and back up fighters I like, instead of being contrary and condescending just to get attention or a laugh. Our sport doesn't need negative nancys. I've followed boxing 50+ years, people like you make me smh.
