Liam Paro vs. Yomar Alamo Added To December 18 Showtime Pay-Per-View Event
Another bout between unbeaten boxers completes the lineup for the final Showtime-branded telecast of the year.
Boxing Scene has confirmed a ten-round battle of undefeated junior welterweights between Liam Paro and Yomar Alamo will land on the undercard of the upcoming grudge match between Jake Paul (4-0, 3KOs) and Tommy Fury (7-0, 4KOs). Paro-Alamo is the fourth set contest on the Showtime Pay-Per-View event which takes place December 18 at AMALIE Arena in Tampa, Florida.
The bout is expected to be formally announced on Tuesday. Showtime is already scheduled to host a press conference in New York City for another fight on the card, pitting NBA star Deron Williams and legendary NFL running back Frank Gore in their respective pro debuts. Brooklyn-bred seven-division titlist Amanda Serrano (41-1-1, 30KOs) will also appear to discuss her lightweight bout with Spain’s Miriam Gutierrez (14-1, 5KOs) which serves as the co-feature.
Paro (21-0, 13KOs) will make his U.S. debut on the high-profile card, fighting for the first time outside of his native Australia. The 25-year-old southpaw from Brisbane—who is a managerial stablemate of Jason and Andrew Moloney under the guidance of Tony Tolj—will fight for the third time in 2021, coming off of a ten-round, unanimous decision win over Steve Gago this past July in Eatons Hill, Australia.
Alamo (20-0-1, 12KOs) also fights for the third time this year, though far more familiar with the surroundings. The 26-year-old prospect from Caguas, Puerto Rico has proven to be a reliable box office attraction during his past seven fights in Central Florida, all taking place in Kissimmee. His fans are expected to make the two-hour trek to Tampa, where he will need that support in perhaps his toughest test to date.
In his most recent outing, Alamo outpointed Adrian Yung over ten rounds this past August at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee. Alamo has headlined at—and has sold out—the venue in each of his last six appearances, including a ten-round majority decision win over Kendo Castaneda in their February 2020 battle of unbeaten rising prospects.
The main event marks the third consecutive PPV headliner for Paul, who signed an exclusive deal with Showtime earlier this year. The content creator and rising cruiserweight made his platform debut this past August 29, forced to go the distance for the first time in an eight-round split decision win over former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Paul’s old hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. The undercard saw Fury—the half-brother of reigning lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury—outpoint Anthony Taylor (0-2), while further developing his rivalry with Paul, which now spills into the ring.
