Triller last night Kubrat Pulev vs. Frank Mir

Post by Glass Joe »

Anyone see this, Thriller decided to change the wheel and do a triangle ring :KO: :KO: mixed between boxing and MMA.

Also the referee wanted to see Mir get killed in there :brick: :brick: :brick: that what happens when you use a MMA ref.

Have any perverts bought it and watched it live on the night with Lopez-Kambo and Fulton-Figgy?

Fair play to Kubrat for stopping; that referee would have allowed him to have carried on there until Mir was in a coma.

I guess that shows difference between the two sports; MMA will keep punching an opponent whilst their asleep on the floor ...

They picked the right night to go after MMA fans. There wasn’t any UFC or Bellator which is rare for a Saturday night. I can’t see why any boxing fan would pay for this. Mir was a big name 10 years ago but was never one of the better strikers.

I find it depressing watching this kind of stuff as it doesn’t make anyone look good.

Hopefully Triller lost a chunk of money on it and it doesn’t happen again.

these bareknuckle/hybrid fights can often be fun when theyre matched right...........but pulev last fight was for the hw championship, what the hell was a commission doing sanctioning someone of his level vs an 0-1 totally washed up frank mir

mir is fortunate pulev showed restraint at the ending there

Pulev may not be at his prime, but he’s a HW still and they carry power forever.

I’d still rank him top 10-15 current HW’s.

Only 11 months ago he was in the ring with AJ.

I don't think these commissions know how to properly match-up MMA guys against boxers. It's one thing having a boxer go into an MMA match because he can be defeated a number of different ways, therefore the playing field is all in favor of the MMA guy.

But when you take away the arsenal away from the MMA guy and leave him nothing but his fists, I don't care if he was a two-time world champion he may as well be a sitting duck.

Pulev knew he knocked him out on his feet, so he didn't jump in. That referee should've stopped it the moment Mir started flailing around like he was drunk.

Personally I would rather give the MMA guys at least the ability to do takedowns, kind of like the WWE Brawl for All back in the 1990s, because these matches via Triad are nothing more than boxing matches with MMA gloves.

I’m not even sure what rule set it was under. If that had been an MMA then the ref wouldn’t have stopped it and Mir would have been badly KO’d by the next shot. I’m not sure whether the ref has ever refereed a boxing content before either.

Commissions tend to only care about money so it’s unlikely they’ll stop things like this unfortunately.

Mir had lost 4 of his last 5 MMA fights and had been badly KO’d in 2 of them and submitted due to punches in one of the others.

He then lost against a naturally much smaller and old Cruiserweight in Steve Cunningham and yet he’s matched with a guy who fought for the world title in his next fight with a rules set to favour boxers.

No way should it have been allowed but I can’t see circus’ like this stopping until people stop buying tickets and the ppv.

These hybrid events make me shudder. It seems like people just want some computer game fight these days with all sorts of ridiculous quirks. Boxing v MMA, silly rules, ridiculously shaped rings etc, etc. FFS just let each combat sport do they’re own thing, stop trying to bring everyone together to try and find ‘who’s the hardest’.
Why on earth Pulev wanted anything to do with this, I don’t know. (Well I do ££$$, but still.)

Mir was damaged goods years ago and Pulev, although getting on a bit, is a seasoned pro.
These crappy shows are put on simply for the internet generation who aren’t particularly interested in the sport, they just want to retweet videos like this and say ‘OMFG’.
Please, just stop!!

these crossover fights are going to get an MMA fighter killed or seriously hurt soon. that was awful to watch. pulev showed by using restraint.

at least when its a boxer going into MMA they basically just get submitted, no harm done.

I'm not convinced conor hasn't been the same guy mentally since that floyd farce.

Weird thing is that apart from that awful match the MMA guys did well, winning the overall team match including an absolutely flushed Matt Mitrione and Mike Perry winning their matches against boxers with decent records.

I thought Rampage and Briggs were meant to fight though?

Meathead Mitrione lost his fight. It was fairly well matched though as Flores lost against anyone decent he ever fought.

I’m surprised Perry won his fight although he’s fought as a pro boxer before (and was stopped).

I assume they wanted to see how this fight sold before considering whether to finance Rampage and Briggs.

Oh sorry I watched it on YouTube assumed meathead got the decision. Understood on Jackson Briggs.

Triller must be a money pit with all their stupid ideas and commentators.

Who knows whether it is. Clearly they lost a load on the Holyfield fight but I wouldn’t have thought they’d have spent much on the purses for last night.

Hopefully they lost money though and it puts them off doing another.

I'll be the odd one out. I enjoy these, though didn't watch last night's. They are something different and they aren't aimed at us, actual boxing fans. Not sure who they are aimed at, admittedly, but they tend to be car crash TV, and in a world where covid news is making us all worry and crap, I can dig some car crash TV.

Also I like the experimental nature of the shows, and the triangle ring idea seems interesting (I'd be up for circle rings and different shape ones too).

The match making is awful, and that needs sorting out but obviously they are looking to just book people with some name value rather than actual quality fights.

Yes it not for traditional boxing fans, who are much better off suited to watching mismatches, poor decisions and dodgy over production of titles, but for a casual wanting to watch a fight without caring they tend to provide some sort of talking point

Pulev really saved Mir there. That’s the benefit of getting a good hiding from a professional. They know when you're done.
