Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Ricky Hatton - 14 yrs ago

Post by Prediction...Pain »

December 8, 2007 - MGM Grand

This could have been a great and very interesting fight if not for that paid for, hack of a ref, Joe Cortez. Had he actually let them fight, this could have been an ATG fight. The atmosphere was absolutely electric in Vegas. Ricky was in peak and prime condition. Star studded fight.

Instead, Joke Cortez broke them up immediately as soon as Hatton got inside. So that was the fight, Hatton getting stung with punches coming in and for his effort, gets broken up immediately. Rubbish.

For shame! Robbed Ricky of actually having a fighting chance and the fans of seeing a great fight.

Would Hatton have won? Prob not but he could have really pushed Floyd that night and didn't get the chance.

Boxing is ruined by its corruption, especially referees. I think it’s one of the more dumbfounding things about the fans of the sport that they seem to believe these referees are somehow ‘incorruptible’ and just have ‘off nights’.

I don’t think Hatton would have won but I do agree he was the victim of Joe Cortez that night mate. He came out all guns blazing.

Hatton is an everyman hero but going life and death with collazo and lazcano showed he wasnt nearly in mayweather and Pacquiaos league

Pretty much agree with that. Hatton simply was not a great fighter.
As for officiating - I think most people realize that many referees are biased. Judges f course too. It is a corrupt sport.

A simple one to complain about yes it might have been a fraction closer but Hatton was never great at 147 and the winner wouldn’t have been different they could have thought 100 times and don’t think Hatton would have beat floyd
