When the two finally sat down to field some questions from Adam Smith, the first was directed towards Brook, who was asked how he felt finally landing the fight he’s sought for such a long period of time.

“Adam, you know how long this has been going on,” Brook started. “Me and him, it’s been 17 years this has been talked about. Even the negotiations, it’s been incredibly hard work, it’s been on, it’s been off, it’s been on, it’s been off. But finally got it across the line. I’m ecstatic that the fans are gonna see this fight, what they’ve wanted to see for years. And I’m just sick of people coming up to me and asking ‘when are you gonna fight, when’s it happening?’ Now we’ve got a date, February 19th in Manchester, and that’s when Amir Khan hits the deck for the final time.”

Then, when asked about where their longtime bitterness towards one another stems from, Brook replied:

“It started from the original promoters back in the day. We’ve always had it we’re gonna be fighting each other but he’s always seemed to veer off. He’s never given me no respect, he’s never acknowledged me. He’s saying ‘fight this guy and I’ll fight you, win a world title I’ll fight you,’ he’s always run away. I think it’s come to this part of his career where there’s nowhere else for him to run so now he wants to fight. This is the biggest fight out there for him, the biggest money fight, and there’s nowhere else for him to go so this is when he wants it, now. So it’s been so frustrating for me, I’ve wanted this for many years.”

Amir Khan was then asked about whether or not he’s been avoiding Brook for all these years.

“I respect him as a fighter...in my last ten years I’ve fought two of the best pound-for-pound fighters — maybe got beat but still young, fighting the best out there. Never ran from Kell, never needed to. Obviously what I’ve achieved in the sport speaks for itself. But look, we’re here now, no point in crying about the past. At that time in the past I didn’t think he deserved the fight but now it’s come to a stage where I’m waiting to give him a good shot right in the face. I want to put him in his place. That’s what it’s all about, end of the day.

“All that talk he’s been giving, all the big talk he’s been saying ‘I’m gonna do this, I’m gonna do that,’ come Feb. 19th it’s gonna be time to see what he’s gonna do and how he’s gonna back them words up.

“It’s like I’m coming a level down taking this fight. I fought the best around the world. I’ve conquered America and for me to give the British fans this fight, I am coming levels down because people want to see this fight. People want to see me punch him in the face, and that’s what they’re gonna get.”

Must admit i never thought i'd see this fight happen. I think the build-up will probably be better than the actual fight, both are well past it.

It’s mad to see this finally announced, but I lost interest half a decade ago and that’s no exaggeration.

In the unlikely event this happens, I’ll feel no guilt asking one of you lads for some fishing advice on the day. Now I think about it, any result is still very possible so it’s not a total turd of a fight.

If i was Kell I’d just miss the weight. Neither of them are ever fighting again and Khan won’t turn the payday down. I haven’t read any full reports, are there weight penalties?

I heard this was at 149 with a maximum weight on the day of around 163.

I don’t have an issue with it at all. I honestly think pretty much every boxing fan will watch it even if they pretend they haven’t. Both have exciting styles, Khan’s always been vulnerable & Brook looked it in his last fight,

No ones been conned here. There’s no bullshit about going for a world title or a fake grudge like Haye - Bellew. On this rare occasion they genuinely don’t like each other & I’d go as far as saying Brook hates Khan.
They’re settling a score, if you want to help give them a pay day then do so, if not then don’t.

I’ll probably go to be honest. I know I’m not watching two world class fighters anymore but I’m a Brook fan & it’ll probably be his last fight.

These guys have got brutaly bashed a few times, but i dont think they get the credit for just how hard some of the challanges they have taken on are.

-Kells fought: prime porter, primeish GGG 2 weights up, Prime spence, prime crawford...

-Khan has fought: prime Maidana, prime Danny Garcia, prime Canelo 1 or 2 weights up, Prime Crawford...

Honestly i dont know if i can think of anyone with a significantly harder top 4 opponents than either of them.

It's true they both fought murderer's row. Brook's win over Porter is probably the best win from both. Don't think Khan has quite got a win to equal that.

khans win over maidana was lit, that was a good f@cking fight and marcos went on quite a run in the future

khan also slapped judah around when zab had beaten lucas and then that south african for the ibf.

amir also beaten alexander, kotelnik, paulie...........pretty decent. more depth than brook for sure, and a hell of a lot of fun and value in many of his losses too. personally i thought he also beat peterson.

but brook's win over porter was very very good for sure. and i think kell was a major talent. excellent timing, technique, and a nice punch to go with it. just his matchmaking didnt give him the best ways to show it. not enough 'in between' type fights. and the timing wasnt great either. the bizarre ggg fight right when he seemed prime for a welterweight title run. the fighting spence right after the ggg eyebashing, and then craw when clearly past his best didnt help.

brook never really got a winning push after beating porter.
