Not so sure, at world level Aussies are few and far between. Many are turned back way before reaching world class.

No qualms with Kambosos jnr being placed in that rock hard bracket

Yeah I think that rock hard stereotype comes mainly from the two Jeffs, Fenech and Harding. Harding just hated trying to slip or block a punch.

I got mine from Rod Carr for the commonwealth title against Wharton in Leeds. Henry hit him so hard it went through his gumshield, Henry's glove and he got knocked out of the ring. Henry lost a lot of blood that night. Then Rod carried on for 12! Killed himself a few years ago did The Crocodile.

They're also big Rugby league heads, usually. It's a tough sport.

Yep,I remember Carr. Henry's hands took a battering !

Again, not world class IMO. I accept Wharton had great power, but it's a stretch to think Henry was world class.

As JamesPhilips says, the classic Aussie hard men were Fenech and Harding. I'd also throw Green, Katsides, Peden & Horn in there too....and in world class, but many fall short before world class.

well the hard man test isnt were they world class, its how hard and tough they were. they may have been only an aussie champ, but could they take their beating and smile for more?

He knocked Galvano out, who was as a world champion. And Nardiello was. I was in his dressing room after Carr. His hands were ruined. He will only say Eubank was harder

Carr was nails. You get 20 seconds when you come off the apron so Dennie Mancini was pushing people away whilst he tried to get back in the ring. In a very rough crowd. He climbed back in and did the 12.

There's a lot of difference being tough at domestic level & Commonwealth level and coming through right handers like Kambosos jnr did against top world class.

true but there are a lot of world class chins and hearts who never come close to world level themselves as fighters, doesnt mean its cuz they lacking in toughness. theres a whole ton of of other attributes like timing, power, speed, ring iq, etc

True. And I'm sure THEBUTCH saw Henry eating every punch in the book from Benn, Eubank and Reid and not move.

When you have alook at how many Aussie profesionals there are , they actually have a high number of good lads , Ok maybee not world champs , but thats hard to come by for any boxer from any country , but like i said they do very well on the international scale for the very few boxers they have ..

Now on a side note i have coached more than a couple of English kids who came to Australia with good records , , and just about everyone of them had a dad who thought his son was going to take over Aust with his superior skills , only to be shocked his kid did'nt do too good ... I would always sort of shake my head at them when they would'nt listen , i would tell them due to the better sparring and the amount of fights he could get in the UK ,, technicly he will be better usually ,,, but these Aussie kids , if they are reasonably good theres not a lot of competition or fights for them so its not unusual for them to fight well out of there age and weight just to get a fight , and they are usually very strong and very tough , quite often the English kids were like boys going in with men at the same age ,,, it was only a few years ago they introduced schoolboys and youth here ,, not too long ago it was simple 14-17 was juniour , 17 and over was seniour , no schoolboys , no youth , but the kids who are around long enough to have 100-120 fights are usually every bit has good has elswhere , , its just that Britain may have 20 real good lightweights , Aust only has 1 , but that one is usually good enough to win medals at commonwelth games ect

The thing is over here i noticed all the Aussie kids do sem to be a lot more sports orientated , and strong , if there into sport they have the best food and lots of sunshine , the kids just seem to be big and strong

Do you know Sugar John Watson, Coneye? My old sparring partner, he's a prominent ref over there now. They probably don't call him Sugar though.

I do think Brits have a tendency to view Aussies with rose tinted glasses, when in reality they tend to get a hiding from the British, with some notable exceptions.

And yes Mickey1975 I did indeed see Wharton's challenges to that trio you mention and his toughness was of the highest order, if not his ability, or in the case of the Benn fight, his bottle !

I know you won't like that last observation but that's my take on it. I honestly thought Henry could beat Nigel (and had money on Wharton)

No i don't know him , . Mickey , but in all honesty i'm not really involved too much anymore in boxing , i spend most of my time travelling in my caravan , or just meandering up and down the Mighty Murray river in my houseboat ,, was only talking about it last night with the wife has to wether or not its worth keeping the house , were never home

Your correct there it is only a few exceptions that seem to beat the top Brits ,, , but thats at the high level , but you have to take into account how many or rather how few boxers there are in OZ and how hard it is for them lack of quality sparring and fights , and distance between states it does take someone speciel to be able to compete with the top Brits , yanks anyone , when you don't have regular good sparring and rarely fight .

On the lower levels I think you will find the Aussies will hold there own with anyone , I have seen it time and time and time again where Kids from Britain have come over , there dad thinking there gonna wipe the floor with the locals because his son was schoolboy Gloucester champion , or won 15 out of 20 bouts in derby , whatever , only to see them get stopped by the local Aussie kid with only a few bouts under his belt , I can litery think of lots and lots , ,,,
