Quite an interesting story so for those who don't know the events let's discuss the story.

Re: Luis Resto v Billy Collins jr
It was an organized armed assault, which led to severe physical and mental damage. Resto and Panama Lewis received too merciful sentences for that.
Re: Luis Resto v Billy Collins jr
There is a film about this probably up on YT.
Horrendous story and Panama Lewis is a piece of excrement.

I hate this whole story. That kid had his life and career destroyed by Lewis and Resto. His father was also to blame in the aftermath. Jesus! I'm shaking my head as I type this. Lewis is the most evil person I've known in boxing. Even more than Don King.
Re: Luis Resto v Billy Collins jr
Ray Arcel was quoted as saying: "Panama Lewis' only sin was getting caught."

I remember this story but never really got that far into it.
One thing that never made sense: Didn't anyone from Collin's camp watch Resto getting his gloves put on before the fight?
You do have wonder if it's possible that Resto really didn't know.

I saw the fight and had previously saw Billy Collins as a game slugger with not a great defense but good chin, stamina and heart.
And as far as I remember, the padding was being removed "during" the fight between rounds via tiny slits made in the seams of the gloves,Lewis would remove the padding.
Collins Sr suspected something after the fight shaking hands ,congratulating Resto as a pretense in order to feel his gloves.
Realizing the padding was far less than it should be, he held onto Resto til officials came.
I don't know how Collins Sr contributed to Billys death though? I never saw a movie or documentary regarding it so I don't know if one featured something pertaining to it?

Arcel's quote was from a boxing magazine-I forget which one; he wasn't the quasi saint that he's made out to be.

Same here. Hardly can fathom taking bits out in the corner during a fight. Laughable really.Joe.Kelly wrote: ↑08 Dec 2021, 19:41I heard that the stuffing was removed before the fight. Allegedly Panama Lewis took Resto into the bathroom stall, where nobody could see what was happening. That's when he squeezed the stuffing out of the gloves.
I doubt that stuffing could be squeezed out of someone's gloves during the fight, in between rounds. Not without anyone seeing something. Also, one minute between rounds isn't really enough time to squeeze out much stuffing. Not even over a succession of rounds.
As far as Resto is concerned, of course he had to have known about his gloves. My guess is that he probably didn't care. He probably regarded that kind of cheating as being routine, acceptable, and unremarkable.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my understanding of what happened.

You both may be right,I can't remember exactly but I am pretty sure I read what I said in a box I g magazine but cant remember which because there were so many during the time this happened. But I thought it was done gradually not all at once and it could be done as there was more than one man working the corner. But again I may be wrong.
I just don't think it would have been done before seeing how the gloves are ( or should have been inspected) unless it were done after the inspection? I dont know.
Regardless trash human beings they were

I saw the documentary and I'm pretty sure the padding was removed before the fight and that Resto knew about it. I seem to remember that he admitted to it in the documentary. Panama Lewis admitted nothing of course, a real POS. Resto looked borderline retarded and was easily manipulated.zuru wrote: ↑09 Dec 2021, 09:06 You both may be right,I can't remember exactly but I am pretty sure I read what I said in a box I g magazine but cant remember which because there were so many during the time this happened.
