Rufus, what happened to Brian "Striggy" Strege? Did he ever get out of his basement and actually have a fight? I remember him posing in a photo wearing his brand new shorts and boots and gloves and that 70's gay porno star moustache. As well as him, there were a few other loonies, all stateside, who claimed they wanted to be in that Trailer Park thing Stacy Goodson almost got off the ground. J'Leon Love was always gonna be putting your lights out in double quick and very painful time but, maybe, you could have hammered a couple of those boxing wannabes that used to call each other out.

He boxed a guy called Dumas and put Dumas properly on his arse twice within the first round but ran out of steam just 30 seconds later and got cleaned out himself... he was good value to be fair!

That was the plan originally. But so many wannabes got scared and backed out after Stacy Goodson put so much time into them. I guess they didn't want to choke just like Charlie did, or didn't want to lose to somebody they kept claiming they could beat.

Because of all these people driving Goodson up a wall, when I showed interest in it he was beyond hesitant and told me he wouldn't risk it unless I proved I was willing to fight somewhere else first.

So I took the hardest available challenge. I didn't know nothing about him but I knew for $1,200 plus free round trip and hotel and food per diems that whoever it was it was going to be somebody I had no chance of winning against.

Wasn't until I got to the hotel did I find out his name and I temporarily popped into BoxRec and asked if anyone had any idea who he was and then somebody gave me an article about him where Emmanuel Stewart was insistent that he was good enough to be middleweight champion of the world so I knew I was definitely screwed.

But I have very little doubt in my mind that I could have beaten all of those guys that were usually on Goodson's shows. Even the guys with winning records on his stable were not that good. It would have been a perfect place to have started from nothing. Unfortunately he got divorced and his wife claimed him out and he wasn't able to put on shows again.

As for Strege... He fought three times and lost all three times. First to David Dumas, then John "Blackie" Barnes, and then Robbie Crawley. After that he kind of disappeared and every once in a great while he would post a video of him having a backyard boxing match with somebody but he would end up getting knocked out in those too.

The last thing I ever heard of him is that he went back to being an umpire for peewee baseball games like he always did before getting into boxing. He's one of those guys I never quite understood the appeal but he had a pretty big following throughout that whole Trailer Park Series.

I think in a lot of ways he wanted it more than everybody else, because after all he spent the money to be on those cards and paid his own way out there, etc--- but he was not only too old he simply had no punch resistance.

In those photos he used to post he made me think of one of those blokes in The Village People but fair dues to him for giving his fans some thrills and spills.

You might remember me and another bloke were the only ones who had your welfare at heart when you were thrown in as live bait to Love. No one knew it was Love until, like you say, last minute but everyone knew it was going to be someone good who was going to smash you senseless. I may have been still in my Collins2000 days then but I remember it well. A handful of fekkwits egging you on when you had 2nd thoughts once you knew it was going to be someone good.

You decided to do it in the end. You idiot.

You were lucky that you must have an abnormally thick skull and managed to come out of it with almost the same amount of brains as you went in with. Which aint saying much.

It's impossible to judge from your performance against Love how you might have fared against Striggy and Co. We'll never know now so let's say I could imagine you beating a few of them and getting a fight with Andrew Hartley. I can't remember much about those 'training' videos you used to post apart from that one were you were dancing with that iron cooking range which ought to have been on Americas Funniest Home Videos but you probably would have had a healthy weight advantage but Hartley was a real pro. Not a particularly good one which was probably down to many things not least of which was his training regime. Didn't Goodson make a crack something like "Training for Andrew just means he goes from unfiltered to filtered smokes."? That said, I think he'd have handled you with ease. No disrespect, but he was a known quantity AND A FKN LEGEND for being the guy to confirm everyone's expectation that Zelenoff couldn't fight at all.

I agree with that. One thing about Striggy is that he had a good power for what he was and I don't know if Rufus the Gypsy could have swallowed many of Striggys right handers - maybe, maybe not but at least Striggy was a known quantity as was Hartley. Rufus - not so much!

I ended up having a look at Striggy's fight with David Dumas. It's on YouTube.

Striggy looked to have very little to no technical skill, and once he had shot his bolt after a couple of minutes, no stamina and no chin either.

But, I agree with Fray Bentos when he says that The Bomber did have a good dig on him.

I also watched Dumas vs Hartley. That was good as I did not know the result. Almost ZERO boxing skill from both of them; I don't think either landed anything other than single punches, usually wild looping ones often thrown while off balance or from very unusual angles. But they both showed plenty of heart and willing until almost the end. A fight that made me recall that old boxing truism - "Two cart horses can still make a good race."
