Tyneside boxing legend Mickey McGuire has died aged 93.
McGuire was never a champion in his own right but he stopped both the British and World Flyweight champions during his career in the ring.
In February 1932, at the age of 19, he beat British champion Jackie Brown on points after their bout of 15 two-minute rounds went the distance at New St James's Hall in Newcastle.
And seven months later he stopped world champion Young Perez inside two rounds, again in Newcastle.
McGuire, whose real name was Bobby Drane, passed away at a nursing home in Newcastle on Monday.
