Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
For me, Bowe-Holyfield 1.
Joshua-Klitschko - a great fight and probably higher skill level than Fury-Wilder 3, but didn't quite match it for drama.
Lewis-V.Klitschko - great slugfest, but no knockdowns and a less than satisfying finish.
Liakhovich-Brewster - great fight, but Fury-Wilder 3 was a bigger fight between more established champions and was more exciting overall.
Bowe-Holyfield 1 for me is a better fight than Fury-Wilder 3. Much higher skill level on display and it was for the undisputed title. It didn't have knockdowns both ways and may have been slightly less exciting, but for me it's the bigger, better fight.

I pretty much agree…I want to chuck a wildcard in…I really think Bowe-Golota 1 and 2 were great action packed fights, with plenty of back and forth. In addition to having crazy endings.

Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
how many rounds did wilder win out of 11 in the third fight? like 1 or maybe 2? it was a fun fight no doubt, but tbh wilder had serious success in very few rounds of that fight and clearly lost everything after his knockdowns round in what, the 4th?. i guess it was really satisfying if you wanted fury to win or if you get off to the whole 'well hes doing nothing , but he COULD land another big one' thingy
i think josh-klit and klit-lewis were both better and id add klit- breswster as another fun one, great comeback there from a guy who was getting trounced, massive turnaround that wilder-fury never had. huck-povetkin too was a real fun one with lots of back and forth and exchanges throughout, and very high intensity final rounds. adding in some non titles, chisora-whyte 1 has lots of super competitive action throughout, both guys hurt several times, wild exchanges and frantic finish.
there have been lots of fights with more sustained action and competivness than fury-wilder 3 tbh, i think ppl just find wilder getting starched so satisfying, esp after the worry tht he'd starch fury in the 4th

Best one I saw since I started watching boxing back in 2008.
Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
It's the best in this century for me. Lewis-Vitali has been on the 1st place before, but now it's finally goes down. Joshua-Wlad and Haye-Chisora fall short. The others are clearly lower in quality for me.
Then there're the 90s. Bowe-Golota II, Morrison-Ruddock and Bowe-Holyfield III are the closest competition on my radar.

Decent post. I gave Wilder the 1st and the 4th 10-7, that's it. The 5th seems to be a swing round, but I thought Fury won it.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑04 Dec 2021, 23:10 how many rounds did wilder win out of 11 in the third fight? like 1 or maybe 2? it was a fun fight no doubt, but tbh wilder had serious success in very few rounds of that fight and clearly lost everything after his knockdowns round in what, the 4th?. i guess it was really satisfying if you wanted fury to win or if you get off to the whole 'well hes doing nothing , but he COULD land another big one' thingy

2 rounds out of a fight that went into the 11th .....nothing for wilder after just the 4th round. it was basically 1 big round all fight for wilder...........not saying it wasnt a really good fight, but imo there were lots of others that had much more sustained back and forth
it like a fight where just the thought of what could possibly happen (wilder big ko?) provided as much of the thrill as what actually happened

Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
It wasn't that competetive in rounds, but the action still was interesting, it was a nice pounding. Or maybe I'm just a f*cking Fury fanatic.

Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
ya, i think a lot of it is dudes being very satisfied at how it ended
i enjoyed the fight, but i think basically wilder had 1 big round and that was mostly it for him. for me he didnt come close to winning a round after the 4th, ive seen some say round 5 was close but dont see that. i liked it but i guess im just not as impressed as many other dudes were

Stick Moorer vs Smokin Bert into the mix.
Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
I've always been a big fan of those as well. The second one in particular had just ridiculous punishment dished out and absorbed by both.

Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
Joshua v Klitschko restored Wlads rep and it cemented Anthony's as the clear number 1 in the world.
Nothing Fury has done since warrants him as any better.
He went life and death with Wallin and was almost slept twice by a sub par Wilder.
Now he'll no doubt try to avoid Dillian Whyte.
As things stand AJ is probably still the best, just a whisker ahead of Usyk, we all know the rematch could go either way, and who else is there?
Of course AJ v Fury could make things clearer but this is the boxing business so it may never happen.

You kidding? Fury controlled the Wallin fight comfortably, only the cut seemed to be a danger. He won about 25 rounds out of 30 against Wilder. He'll barely feel Whyte, if they fight. He'll handle Joshua either like Usyk did or like Fury himself did to Wilder.Thomastearns wrote: ↑05 Dec 2021, 16:39 Joshua v Klitschko restored Wlads rep and it cemented Anthony's as the clear number 1 in the world.

Also I dont know what logic there is in "Usyk clearly beat AJ, the rematch could go either way, so AJ is a little better than Usyk."

Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
Fury-Wilder III was highly-exciting , mainly due to five knockdowns.
However, both guys seemed rusty and didn’t really use much technique. It was a brawl between two guys that weren’t at their best.
And if Fury wasn’t decked twice during round four, it would have been perceived as a one-sided beatdown.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about the fight, merely highlighting my reasons as to why it’s slightly overrated,
Anyway, here’s a list of heavyweight title fights from the last twenty years that I thought were highly-exciting, with some of them possibly better bouts than Fury-Wilder III:
• Lennox Lewis vs Vitali Klitschko
• Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko
• Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr. I
• Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder I
• Corrie Sanders vs. Wladimir Klitschko
• Roy Jones Jr. vs. John Ruiz
• Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson
• Deontay Wilder vs. Luis Ortiz I
The nature of Fury’s victory in the Wilder rematch is yet another typical example of the inevitable “pendulum swinging” effect found in most fight fans and the media where they go from one vine (fighter or bout) to the next based on the sports’ most recent noteworthy performance.
A lot of people quickly fall victim to a typical “pendulum shift” as soon as someone in the sport does something "big", where the momentum seems to bury the reality.
Basically, too many fans and members of the media go overboard with accolades whenever the sports' biggest stars compete.
The “latest” is nearly always considered the “greatest” or one of the “greats.”

With the Holyfield correction. Hokyfield is amusing though.
Wilder won maybe one or two rounds, more likely just the one, and the other KD even. That isn't competitive really. The ebb and flow of the AJ Klitchko fight, or the high level boxing of Holyfield Bowe were better. All four of those fighters have better legacies than Fury and Wilder

ya agree, wilder won at tops 2 rounds out of 11 for me, lots of other fights have had way more sustained action and competivness
Re: Fury Wilder III was the best heavyweight title fight since...
I’ve only watched it once but found it seriously thrilling regardless of who was winning the individual rds. I recall the pace being relentless and tension being high throughout…actually I remember being exhausted after watching it.
Good to see Bowe Golota getting some love. Crazy stuff.
I also really enjoyed Usyk AJ. That was up there with the better championship heavyweight fights I’ve seen in several years.

wilders big round 4 made ppl jizz to every preceding round no matter how little he did - cuz will he do it again? and then the satisfying ending
fair enough but compared to a lot of other fights being mentioned not much consistent 2 way actually happened, i do find it a bit overrated
