Dustin Poirier agrees to UFC lightweight title fight vs. Charles Oliveira on Dec. 11

Dustin Poirier will indeed get his chance to hold UFC gold by the end of the year.

Poirier (28-6) has agreed to challenge Charles Oliveira (31-8) for the lightweight championship at UFC 269 on Dec. 11. The matchup had been in talks for weeks, and Poirier told ESPN late last month there was "a good chance" it would happen. The 32-year-old lightweight wrote on social media on Sunday that the bout is now official.

"Signed, Sealed, Delivered," Poirier wrote on Twitter.

Representatives for Poirier confirmed to ESPN he has officially agreed to the December title fight.

A win against Oliveira would cap off an amazing year for Poirier, who has been fighting professionally since 2009. The Louisiana native kicked off 2021 by knocking out Conor McGregor in January at UFC 257. He followed that up with another TKO win against McGregor at UFC 264 in July, a fight that ended when McGregor suffered a serious leg injury at the end of the opening round.

UFC 269 will mark Poirier's second attempt at an undisputed UFC championship. He challenged former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in September 2019, and lost via submission. Poirier is a former interim UFC champion, but has never held the undisputed title.

Oliveira, 31, captured the vacant UFC title by knocking out Michael Chandler in May. Fighting out of Brazil, Oliveira is riding a nine-fight win streak that includes eight finishes.

Fabulous matchup that should have fireworks! I think Charles will win though it's probably as 50/50 a match as you can have.

This card is deep, got tai tuivasa fighting in a literal 50-50, 8 fights from the top of the bill. He is one of the rare likeable personalitys in the sport, and is coming of 3 first round KOs, and a preformance of the night....(yet somehow hasnt even cracked the top 15 at heavyweight).

fornicate UFC cards are just so much better than boxing cards.

He is a big boy. UFC makes em weight in under 265... when tai tuivas boxed he would weigh in 320lbs.... big lad for only 6'2.. that heavvvvy islander frame. love to see him back to box a few 4 rounders if the right opponent apeared.

Jeez, that was maybe the biggest upset yet in UFC. Julianna timed her shots well, used the distance, and went down as she wanted...

The Nunes hype train has been derailed. That's what happens when you buy in to all your hype. She got beat by a stiff jab in her face repeatedly, then quit the second she got taken down and was mounted. :yay: :yay: :yay:

Now Peña is probably going to be referred to as the GOAT by the UFC broadcasters.

This upset is too surreal to even be elaborated, Amanda got beat by basic stuff... and it still happens often in women MMA, just look at Carla Esparza's recent successes

The way they kept going on about how she was unbeatable is what made me really want to see her beaten. I hate it when the UFC announces someone as the GOAT after a few wins.

I just hope someone put a big bet on Peña to win.

Even if Amanda wins it back, the GWOAT discussion is largely resized by this damaging upset

He stayed down to lose the round rather than try and get out and risk losing the fight

Charles is the man. What brass balls he displayed.

Justin was hurting him with huge shots but he kept putting himself in the line of fire to get his own shots off.

It’s UFC cards like this that show how shitty boxing has become.
