Yeah. That’s always been the case for televised shows. Particularly happens in pro wrestling to give the aesthetic of a full house. At least we don’t have the piped in crowd noise (post lockdown at least) that they’ve had in WWE in recent years.
Here I thought I was being observant. It’s funny cos it’s not like Scousers don’t like boxing, it just always sells better when it’s two Scousers fighting.
You’re absolutely right - scousers love a fight between 2 of their own. I remember the Smith/Dodson/Quigley fights doing well and then recently the Smith/Fowler fight selling out fairly quickly. It’s not like they had many/any big name scouse fighters on Saturday - Davies Jr and Peter McGrail being the main ones so to sell 6,000 plus the freebies is a pretty decent result considering it was a short window from announcement to fight date (just over 4 weeks I think).
C Smith - Fielding was the busiest I’ve ever seen the echo. And I’ve seen Coldplay there  that was another freebie.

When the card was announced I wondered why they chose Liverpool to be fair.

I’d forgotten about that one. It’s just shows how much they go for a local fight. Whilst Cleverly/Bellew 2 was a poor fight in reality the undercard had loads of names on it (Degale, Groves, Callum Smith, Scott Quigg and AJ) albeit in one sided fights. The arena was only about 75/80% full for it.

They didn’t sell out the full arena. I went and remember quite a few empty seats. I think there was a small area of the tiered seats that wasn’t opened up so they may have called a sell out but didn’t sell the whole arena.

Probably one of those odd things (there were a defined set of seats in the upper tier of the Frampton/Quigg fight also left empty for example) but it was definitely announced at the time as selling out in 48 hours and setting a record. I remember not being able to get a pair of tickets from general sale.

Ah right. I don’t remember when I got my tickets for it (could have been as soon as they went on sale by the sound of things) but it’s not one that I remember it being difficult to get tickets for.

I just didn’t strike me as being that busy there compared to other shows I’ve been to at the Echo. Perhaps they left a section empty to keep the Welsh away from the scousers.

Conor Benn's right hand finish was a truly stunning punch

Unfortunately his team know he is 'suspect' and won't put him in with a "live" puncher. With respect, but Algieri couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

They are chasing all the names that the fans don't really won't to see.

He's not above the European title and i bet Avanesyan would happily defend against Benn, but Conor and his team carry on like this excellent EBU champion doesn't exist.

I'm hearing Broner's name cropping up....No thanks :shame:
