Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
I think Usyk wins, outworks fury in a close one.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
I hope we get to find out. The more I think about this matchup the more I'm intrigued by what Usyk would employ strategy wise.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
Target the big belly. Fury can take the medicine ball but I thought he didn't look comfortable in round 1 vs Wilder - yes he turned it round, but Wilder fell apart quickly also. - this would definitely be more in Usyk's instincts than Wilder who reverted to type very soon.
Not saying Fury has a weakness there, but there is plenty of target and it just reminded me a bit of how Arthur Abraham reacts to body jabs - he didn't like it.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
Lewis rematched both and if my memory is correct KO`D them both in style , so I dont think its that relevant - all boxers can lose their shit for a few seconds ie Whyte v Pov .mickey1975 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021, 08:40Well it's my opinion. It just hasnt happened to Fury yet - maybe it never will who knows .
But we all know that Lennox Lewis in his prime destroys Wilder and doesnt hang around doing it otherwise he is giving him the chance to land a big one which is really all he has .

If my memory serves me right, Lewis had a crack head with his hands down letting him tee off on him but never troubled him. It was nowhere near a ko.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
Dont get me wrong I am not for one minute saying Lennox Lewis is a better boxer than fury or if they fought in their prime that LL would win .
No way as clearly there is not a man born who can beat Tyson - must be true as his dad said so .
Therefore lets all bow down the the great one .

i did watch it ,he did what he had to do but it was far from terrible, fury was in fight of the year because of his own vulnerabilities. How many defences has tyson made so far ?mickey1975 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021, 14:10He's just won WBC fight of the year. Mercer was an Olympic Gold medalist, at his peak before drugs and alcohol ruined him, he had one of the best chins in boxing. He hurt both Lewis and Holyfield. He’d have smashed Wilder to bits.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021, 11:04Mercer was nails, was only stopped when well past his sell by date.
Wilders power has been somewhat overrated by the level of opposition he's faced.

Lewis boxed Tua's ears off - it was a masterclass.
Unlike Fury's 'masterclass' against Wlad, which featured more feints than a victorian melodrama, lewis actually landed quite a few punches on Tua.
Come on Mickey, stop taking the piss here.

He stopped McCall - nobody ever knocked McCall actually out to my knowledge, other than in a street fight with a baseball bat.mickey1975 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021, 14:53Because the post above said he avenged his losses with ko's. Rahman only woke up in time for his next fight.
Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
Yeah not sure how Lewis got into the equation - but I think likes its a case of us viewing Whyte or, lets think of an undefeated fighter, Trevor Bryan and can say with some confidence "Fury smashes him" even though Bryan technically has done nothing wrong as a pro. I think though when you watch Lewis and you watch Fury, irrespective of their opponents, there is only one winner.
Wilder remains Fury's best win - for me (and I feel I am in a big minority) the Klitschko fight was too close for it to be called a particularly good win. For similar reasons I will say Haye's win over Chisora was Hayes' best Heavyweight win (the Valuev fight was too close for comfort). There is nothing absolutely nothing that I feel Wilder has over Lewis - I would even say Lewis had superior power and possibly even a superior chin. Boxing IQ, Size, Speed, Stamina, Skill Set, Shot selection and ability (In all facets of the game - in fighting, jabbing and moving, you name it) Lewis was leagues above Wilder.
I think if you watch Lewis and watch Fury in separate fights - its the same as watching Fury and watching Trevor Bryan in separate fights, there is only 1 winner.
That's not a dig at Fury - just I actually am not sure if there is a single heavyweight ever though that I think a prime Lewis was inferior too. That doesn't mean I think he is the #1 Heavyweight of all time (when you take into consideration record, opponents etc.), but he might just have been the very best heavyweight ever talent/ability/performance wise.
Ali, Louis, Lewis and Mike Tyson - not necessarily the greatest four heavyweight of all time but ability wise for me these four when you watch videos of them at their absolute pomp you go "christ they were good, hard to see anyone could beat them". Mike Tyson being the most "mythical" of them as lots of never answered questions - e.g. stamina, how would he react to someone being able to take his shots etc. But was still something else in his pomp.

oliver mccall was stopped in the rematch with lewis but he was having a break down in the ring of some sort and wasn’t fighting back , as for lewis he was a great boxer that got caught by two cracking shots i wouldn’t of said he was chinny or massively vulnerable it’s heavyweight boxing they can all punch

This
Heavyweights in the past were given the chance to carry on after a knockdown and i think Lewis should have had that chance v McCall,he may have recovered but we'll never know,as for the Rahman ko well he deserved that as he was titting around grinning and not taking it serious, although was winning at the time.He wasn't chinny,Grant hit him with a few and also Briggs and they both got ko'd badly

Re: Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk - Anytime anyplace anywhere
You said he'd still be down if Wilder had caught him, but I've just checked and he was up at 7 versus McCall, with the fight fairly called off at 11. In real seconds. Against Rahman he was stopped pretty much bang on 10, and on his feet at 14/15. He was visibly knackered after training poorly, as we know.mickey1975 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2021, 08:40Lennox got chinned twice and it's completely forgotten like he's a prime Ali.
Fury was borderline up on 10 in the 12th of Wilder 1, and the fight resumed on 22. In 1994 he would've been stopped.
None of us know which of the three shots was hardest, but we do know it wasn't Wilder's best righthand that felled Fury. And if anything, I think Lewis did well to get up against McCall after walking onto his counter. Lewis' chin certainly wasn't great, no, but he fought in a stronger era than any since.
Criticise him for not facing Holyfield or Tyson until they were past their primes if you feel like it, and maybe for avoiding Ibeabuchi (it would've been generous for Lewis to accept his challenge), but I'd say you're underrating his actually decent chin if you think he couldn't have recovered in Fury's 22 seconds on the same occasion.
As far as Wilder's best shot goes, he's needed it more than once a few times. Fury intimidated him more than I expected, and he was already pretty circumspect against weaker opponents. In a rage I still think he has a chance against anyone, but it's confirmed that's not in his character until he's hurt, by which time it's often too late at the highest level. (His last fight the exception because of bruised ego, when he binned his effective bodywork to launch from Mars!) If you'd given his physical attributes to Frazier...
Seems pretty likely that Fury intimidates AJ now, less so Joyce and Uysk. If Whyte's not too scared and that fight happens, I can see him doing okay early doors. We all just wanna see Fury taking these guys on now, rather than yer Seferis and Pianetas and Schwarzs and Wallins. Even Ruiz, Sanchez, Anderson and so on.
Ali lost a few, but he always backed himself and went down a legend. I didn't like him, but there's no way any boxing fan can't respect him. There's still time for Fury, but a long way to go.
