Hughie Fury vs. Chris Arreola Showdown is Eyed By BOXXER's Shalom

According to promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER, heavyweight contender Hughie Fury is looking for a showdown with veteran Chris Arreola in 2022.

Last month, the 27-year-old Fury broke down and stopped the usually durable Christian Hammer.

Back in May, Arreola turned back the clock when he rocked and dropped former champion Andy Ruiz in a twelve round points loss.

Arreola has been turned back in three world title challenges, which saw him lose bouts against Deontay Wilder, Vitali Klitschko and Bermane Stiverne.

"[His father and trainer] Peter Fury wants Arreola and we think that's a great fight," BOXXER promoter Shalom told Sky Sports.

"Arreola did really well against Andy Ruiz Jr. We think it's time for Hughie to step up after an impressive win over Hammer. There are a lot of potential opponents being chucked around. You will see him in big fights. You will see him fight an American next, and we are hoping for Arreola."

Last week, Peter Fury informed Sky Sports that his fighter was looking to face an opponent of "high caliber" next.

Another boxer that Hughie would like to face next year is British veteran Derek Chisora, who next month will collide with Joseph Parker in a rematch.

"We have our eye on Derek Chisora next year for Hughie," Shalom said. "Hughie is just circling around the top 10 in the world.

"He's waiting to fight any of them - he would fight Dillian Whyte, he would fight Chisora, he would fight Joseph Parker again. He thinks he's got Parker's number."

Fury has now won three fights in a row since losing a twelve round decision to former world champion Alexander Povetkin in August of 2019.

But of a misleading title of the article. Hardly sounds like they’re in talks - just that Peter wants it.

It’s unlikely they’re getting Arreola over here for a regular Sky Sports show. Also continuing to talk about Chisora - not sure Del Boy would take that fight either.

It depends if PBC have any use for Arreola. I don't imagine the Del Boy fight happens but of he loses to Parker again he may not have much options.

Sounds about right. Arreola will secure not more than a couple of rounds anyway.

Hughie Fury's Next Fight Will Be of Real Significance, Says BOXXER Exec

According to promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER, heavyweight contender Michael Hunter has expressed interest in a potential fight with Hughie Fury.

Shalom admits that it hasn't been an easy task to secure top rated opponents for Fury, who is the younger cousin of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

However, Shalom is also realistic that a fight between Fury and Hunter is not exactly in high demand after Hunter's last performance.

"It is difficult for Hughie because he is a heavyweight that everyone wants to avoid," Shalom told Sky Sports.

"Hunter has been talking up that fight. He likes the fight. But I don't think it's a fight that anyone is begging for. Hunter is desperate for an opportunity in the UK because he feels like he's got a lot of improvement potential. Hughie is a tough operator and is a lot younger than Hunter. This is definitely a fight we are looking at for Hughie."

In his most recent ring appearance, Hunter was less than impressive in going to a controversial draw with Jerry Forrest.

Fury recently busted up and stopped the usually durable Christian Hammer.

Shalom wants him back in action in early 2022 - and he wants to secure him a top opponent.

At the moment, Shalom is in talks with two promoters, with the hope being that a deal can be finalized in the near future.

"Chris Arreola and Andy Ruiz Jr are also possible. We are looking for the biggest fight possible because we believe Hughie is ready to step up. But the difficulty is that nobody wants to fight him. He is an awkward fighter, a difficult fight for anyone. And he is a lot younger than the other heavyweights, at least four or five years younger than most of them. We expect his next fight to be of real significance," Shalom said.

"We are talking to two of the really big promoters in the US now. We expect to hear exciting news soon about Hughie."
