Ahh the old myth that Lewis was chinny. He got ko'd twice from brilliant shots and was never knocked down in any other fight and he fought the likes of Tua, ruddock, klitchko, tyson etc.

If Lewis is chinny that means just about every other fighter in history is chinny(apart from mccall)

Even George Chuvalo?

Or Sugar Ray Robinson?

Or Carmen Basilio?

Or Muhammad Ali...

It's more than Oliver McCall... :shame:

You said he'd still be down if Wilder had caught him, but I've just checked and he was up at 7 versus McCall, with the fight fairly called off at 11. In real seconds. Against Rahman he was stopped pretty much bang on 10, and on his feet at 14/15. He was visibly knackered after training poorly, as we know.

Fury was borderline up on 10 in the 12th of Wilder 1, and the fight resumed on 22. In 1994 he would've been stopped.

None of us know which of the three shots was hardest, but we do know it wasn't Wilder's best righthand that felled Fury. And if anything, I think Lewis did well to get up against McCall after walking onto his counter. Lewis' chin certainly wasn't great, no, but he fought in a stronger era than any since.

Criticise him for not facing Holyfield or Tyson until they were past their primes if you feel like it, and maybe for avoiding Ibeabuchi (it would've been generous for Lewis to accept his challenge), but I'd say you're underrating his actually decent chin if you think he couldn't have recovered in Fury's 22 seconds on the same occasion.

As far as Wilder's best shot goes, he's needed it more than once a few times. Fury intimidated him more than I expected, and he was already pretty circumspect against weaker opponents. In a rage I still think he has a chance against anyone, but it's confirmed that's not in his character until he's hurt, by which time it's often too late at the highest level. (His last fight the exception because of bruised ego, when he binned his effective bodywork to launch from Mars!) If you'd given his physical attributes to Frazier...

Seems pretty likely that Fury intimidates AJ now, less so Joyce and Uysk. If Whyte's not too scared and that fight happens, I can see him doing okay early doors. We all just wanna see Fury taking these guys on now, rather than yer Seferis and Pianetas and Schwarzs and Wallins. Even Ruiz, Sanchez, Anderson and so on.

Ali lost a few, but he always backed himself and went down a legend. I didn't like him, but there's no way any boxing fan can't respect him. There's still time for Fury, but a long way to go.
To be fair and I know the main point you are making about Lewis' chin - yes he took shots from big punchers and withstood them so I am certainly in the corner saying his chin wasn't bad (he took some humdingers off Vitali). However, I think it would have been very harsh to call off Fury vs Wilder as Fury got up (waved it off when he was sprawled on the ground would have been acceptable as he looked out) but when Fury rose and BEAT the count his legs were strong and his eyes were clear. Lewis whilst he beat the count quicker was all over the place after 10 seconds. It would have been a Curry vs McCorry style KO had the ref continued it.

I think there was a case (albeit a weak one) to stop the Wilder 3 fight in the fourth and the fact Fury's went down from a nothing shot the second time suggested he hadn't made a good recovery. But yes the ref could have stopped Fury when on the floor in fight 1 (12th round) but when he rose then no it would have been a bad call to stop it then.

It's funny, I watched his fight with Morrison the other night, which was better than I remembered, and he took some full blooded left hooks flush, without even blinking.

The Rahman fight was really down to Exhaustion, whilst the McCall shot was perfect timing as he was caught throwing all of his weight into his own shot.

I often wonder about McCall and what might have been, he must have been an incredible natural athlete, he always looked in incredible shape, even at the height of his drug abuse - and late into his very long career was still pulling out some results. Has there been a biography about McCall - I bet it would make interesting reading!

he was actually smiling just before the punch landed,he was taking the piss and deserved it to be honest, the rematch however showed us how the first fight should have ended.

But didn't, because he got knocked out? It happened because Rahman threw a punch intending to hit Lewis in the face. He did. Nothing lucky about it.

So with that logic, Lennox got lucky in the rematch because he landed?

Correct….he was filming some movie in LA 11 days before the fight
I think it was Oceans 11 and he left it too late to get to South Africa and get acclimatised

I think Joseph Parker said today "I thought I was fit until I trained with Tyson. But he is just on another level".
Plus, he's not my hero. I like him. Why it causes such offence is beyond me.

Tyson is a good boxer,he's very fit,he has a good chin and he's tough but please don't try to discredit the achievements of Lewis because he got ko'd twice. He's an olympic champion,3 times world champion, was through most of his title reigns considered the top guy in the division, has avenged both losses inside the distance, made lots of defences against top contenders and tyson has yet to beat anyone decent other than an ancient Wlad

Don't really like , comparing boxers from different era's , its easy to end up arguing all day long ,, But i think it would be safe to just say , Tyson Fury was the best around in a very very poor era of heavyweights .

Lennox Lewis was the best , when there were lots of good heavyweights around
