Re: Lou Savarese versus Tex Cobb
Both weren't sublime boxers, but had some decent performances at the higher level, win or lose. Yeah, Lou was more polished, while Cobb was a complete club fighter, but Tex was extremely tough. I think, Cobb could be behind on points, but he would pull out a victory with mauling Savarese down later on.
Cobb by close dec or late stoppage.

Re: Lou Savarese versus Tex Cobb
I'm going to say that it may very well end in a draw. The best version of Cobb was probably his fight with Ken Norton, and Savarese's best night was probably against George Foreman.
I think Cobb had a better work rate, but he lacked punching power and he was often times too sloppy. Because he was so wide open guys made the mistake of teeing off on him and wear themselves out because he was tough enough to take it.
Savarese was the better boxer but he never really went above the trial horse or gatekeeper level in my view, just outside the top 10--- whereas Cobb was a legitimate top 10 guy in the late seventies and early '80s.

The annual ratings bear this out as Savarese was never listed in the top 10 throughout the 1990s despite winning the USBA and IBA titles, and facing Foreman for the WBU title.

Cobb on the other hand was rated in the top 10 in 1981 and 1982 according to the annual ratings, so the disparity in terms of achievement and worth is noticeable.

i'll back the draw too
Re: Lou Savarese versus Tex Cobb
Either Cobb put on the better workrate than Savarese to take a decision or late round stoppage or a draw. Tex Cobb has the same heavy punching power as Savarese btw.
