It’s a vicious downward spiral: if the fans aren’t tuning in; the networks won’t fund the events; fighters won't fight if they aren't getting paid; the quality of the cards is reduced; and fewer fans tune in! Lather, rinse, repeat!
Yeh, and then fans are not getting the fights they want, they not gonna tune in.

You're right.

It's very vicious indeed.

Wow this is PPV? I find it incredible that even one person would buy this. This is exactly the type of fight that should be on free tv. Fan friendly meaningless fight between two losers. I can't believe any of these guys have a fan base left. Luis Ortiz has the charisma and odor of Donkey Kong's dick and King Charles is a bum. One of the best moments in boxing was when he came out dressed in regal regalia to fight Joshua. I was watching it with some friends and we were rolling on the floor laughing.

So? $3.99 isn't unreasonable for this card.

Oh, wait...

The PBC spent hundreds of millions of dollars on time-buy deals, which provided free boxing content to fight fans.

Unfortunately though, fight fans were complaining about the quality of bouts being televised, because they wrongly assumed they’d be seeing PPV quality main events for free. So they stopped tuning in

honestly Don King or somebody else could bring back the "Heavyweight Explosion" cards with c and d rate talent. weather on ppv or free i would be watching
The problem is, how did Don King fund those magnificent events he staged?

A lot of his fighters were treated appallingly. And the networks were more willing to spend money on boxing back then.

Times have changed, because fighters want to be paid and the networks are trying to cut costs.

Well this card fell off a cliff.
If you want some boxing in the next 3 weeks, this is all there is on offer.
Might be alright :maybe:

Yeah, it would be a treat if it wasn't PPV. It isn't PPV really, it's a battle of the who cares, but its probably going to be entertaining outside of any championship aspirations context

I'm fine with PPV bouts, as long as this one is $9.99.

I think people really have no clue how to price these kind of events. Matches like this ought to be no more than $5 or $10, and ought to be streamed on YouTube rather than go through some major pay-per-view service.

In a rational world this is the kind of match that would appear on Friday Night Fights for free, because let's be honest neither Ortiz or Martin have done anything to warrant being the headliners of a pay-per-view worth $40 in quite a long while.

This is an awesome card for free and one of the worst ever for 40 bucks.

If they did it for 4.99 it'd sell really well.

The high end of this card is pretty non-existent, but the depth of medium fights is way deeper than what you normally see.
Luiz Ortiz - Charles Martin
Frank Sanchez - Carlos Negron
Jonathan Rice - Michael Polite Coffie
Gerald Washington - Ali Demirezen
Viktor Vykhryst - Iago Kiladze

Most of those match-ups aren't too lopsided, other than Sanchez - Negron. This card will do quite a lot to shake-up the middle of the heavyweight standings. It's too bad that the Jan 15 Yoka - Bakole fight isn't also on this card.

I do agree with those who say boxing ppv prices are too high in general and too high for this particular card. But I'm excited that there's so much heavyweight activity in January.

I'm always calling for approximately even match-ups. To me, that is more worthwhile than famous boxers fighting in mismatches. Mayweather vs some bum might sell more tickets than the #27 heavyweight vs the #28 heavyweight, but I'd prefer to watch the latter fight all day. Saul Alvarez vs Avni Yildirim or Rocky Fielding, you know exactly who's going to win and neither of their rankings will change after the fight, that's a waste of time. Gerald Washington vs Ali Demirezen, either fighter could win, and most likely there will be big movement in the rankings after they fight (one goes up 15 slots, the other goes down 15 slots, unless they Washington wins by exactly a 7-5 decision).

Nicely put :TU:
Even fights are often the difference between me buying or not buying a PPV.
I really don't know if Ortiz Vs Martin is a close fight. I'm fairly sure it will be entertaining though.
