Joyce needs beating too. He could beat all of them and will be ducked accordingly.

whyte, joyce, usyk, aj, dave allen...............there's still plenty of guys for him to fight that would add to his resume and be among his best opponents

Re: Let's call a spade a spade: Tyson Fury's record stinks
I think the stripping of Tyson within hours of his victory and the papers bringing up all of his families past, which was in the public domain anyway, rather than concentrating on an all time great British win when Tyson doesn't even have a criminal record was what upset him.tonyevs wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 04:51 Fury has had a great career no doubt; he is mostly recognised as the top heavy today based on beating a terrible title holder 2/3 times, and the next dominant heavyweight losing to big underdogs.
The win against an ancient Wlad may look good on paper - but it's hard to overlook that Fury was the only person who couldn't stop Wlad out of all Wlads past and future losses; the fight was so boring and terrible to watch that the UK media hardly mentioned it .. John Fury identifying that as a reason why Tyson went off the rails.
The Wallin fight for me shows Fury's real level. Those mythical skills were not evident against the guy chosen to give little resistance. Fury had to resort to crudely using his huge mass to smother Wallin.
Then Wilder. Enough has been said about Wilders lack of skill. Fury's biggest fan points to the 2nd Wilder fight as proof of Fury's greatness/skills .. yet Fury had an opponent falling over on spaghetti legs from the 4th round .. yet couldn't put any sort of organised offence together to get him out if there until he was practically out on his feet. Once again just crudely using his mass to wear a pathetic looking opponent down.
The 3rd wilder fight was exciting in the same way as 2 drunks outside a pub would be; there was as little skill shown by both guys also.
This generation of heavies have undoubtedly been the worse. Fury just so happens to be probably the best of a bad bunch .. probably; because he first needs to fight Joshua and Usyk to actually prove it.
We will see in the new year if he makes The Queens honours list. Ambassador for mental health, unbeaten heavyweight champion of the world.... Bruno, Cooper, AJ and loads more got one for far less.

aside from the fact that being a 'mental health ambassador' is irrelevant to his record, what even makes someone an ambassador for mental health these days
like if i have mental health problems and get over them and accomplish stuff, am i am ambassador even if throughout this time i talked non-stop sh!t about people and said insulting, biggoted things of a nature that is often damaging to people's mental health?

Re: Let's call a spade a spade: Tyson Fury's record stinks
I love the way Fury came back and made the Wilder fight. A couple of warm-ups and it's on. Hearn (who by the way is a good promoter) was waffling on about how there was a contract and there wasn't a contract etc. etc.
Fury goes - want to fight? Wilder - sure.
It's easy to forget that, but that's how it went down. And the heavyweight division really needed it at that time.

It's very relevant to the honours list. I don't think you're as high profile as Fury....margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 05:09 aside from the fact that being a 'mental health ambassador' is irrelevant to his record, what even makes someone an ambassador for mental health these days

what does being a mental health ambassador even mean anyway? the same guy has said loads of bigoted nonsense and insults. is that regarded as being a mental health champ these days?

Fury is a good few years from getting any Honour from the Queen. Currently, he and his dad are far too offensive with what they say to the media to ever be considered.
However, I don't think it would be too difficult to pick one up with some media training for Tyson & especially John; they are after all just honours to who is popular at that time. Win some popular race/contest and you pretty much given one to allow the Royal family to get some PR off the back of it.

Re: Let's call a spade a spade: Tyson Fury's record stinks
Fury has had a strange career indeed. From getting beat off McDermott to being one of the best heavies to ever live is insane.
His career has always been in the limelight because of his name and height.
He fights any style, can adapt, can punch, has a tremendous chin…. Anyone remember the Rogan fight fighting lefties? And he has heart and desire even when he’s clearly not been the most dedicated.
His record isn’t a whose who of great fighters but that doesn’t detract from his talents. Does he have a better record on paper than some other heavies? No. Is he far better? Yes.

Your on the wind-up obviously. He fights any style, can adapt, can punch, has a tremendous chin….
I know Mick confirmed what a lot of people suspected; that he was on the wind-up or on the beer when he was making the ridiculous comments of Fury's imagined attributes .. copying that now is very unoriginal and basically trolling.

The McDermott fight adds to his record. It was a close fight, so he said, immediately afterwards "we will have a rematch then", and gave him one, which he stopped him in. It was his 8th fight and he was the away fighter and 21 years old! John had just given a peak Danny Williams nightmares.Dioufy wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 05:44 Fury has had a strange career indeed. But he has got a remarkable chin. Larry Holmes went down like Tyson but only gets praise for his recupertive powers. He can box in either stance and front or back foot. Every single boxer he has fought or sparred say you can't prepare for him because he can do everything. Are they all winding you up?tonyevs wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 06:05Your on the wind-up obviously. He fights any style, can adapt, can punch, has a tremendous chin….

He lost the first fight and I think the ref was O’Connor; 98-92 was definitely up there with one of the worst scores I’ve ever seen.mickey1975 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 06:06The McDermott fight adds to his record. But he did what he did and stopped McDermott later; I forgot he was still so young at the time!
People also forget Tyson beating an undefeated, very hungry Del-Boy…. Twice!

He won. Check his record! I agree, he probably should have lost, but facts are facts, he won. basically fury backhand slapping a plodding but mostly inactive chisora for 10 rounds, totally uncompetitive, 0 drama or action, fury showing 0 spite and fighting like he didnt want to hurt del, almost afraid to throw anything other than flicky jabs. dragging on and on......with a similarly boring retire on stool conclusion rather than a ko like wlad would get after a borefest
anything you can name, it's right up there with. it was worse than fury-wlad, worse than valuev-haye and wlad-haye. the most entertaining moment of the fight was the ref instructing fury on how to throw a jab

What kind of reply is that? He lost that fight… regardless of what Boxrec says. No one would say Fury got that decision justly. He was all over the shop.mickey1975 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 07:10He won. But he did what he had to do in the rematch to put that right… like Mayweather v Castillo.
No boxing fan can believe that no one beat Mayweather.
Some boxing fans and many casuals think a defeat is terminal… it really isn’t.
If McDermott did pick up that UD many years ago by very high opinion of Tyson would remain… unaltered.

If I remember correctly, Tyson had a much harder time in the middle rounds of the rematch. He was done, but bit down on his gumshield and came through. Brilliant experience at that age. He was completely gassed.

margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 04:41 funny enough i think charlie martin could beat almost everyone wilder and fury have beaten. he's fighting luiz ortiz next week, presumably the ortiz ppl claim is a bit of a beast should smaash him, but you never know.
reminds me that brezeale was called a soft first defense for 2.5 year pro aj, yet then dudes hyped wilder for beating him after 11 years and 40+ fights pro. still one of the best 3 guys big deon's beaten, barely top 10 for josh
but anyway, fury's record defo doesnt stink. hes got a couple very high quality wins that are probably the best pair of the last 20 years. id put him ahead of wlad, aj, wilder and josh for now. but he's missing a key component of a real great for me, which is that consistent streak against good opposition, showing that he can stay around and regularly turn back leading contenders.
i don’t think martin will beat ortiz even if ortiz is like 62 or however old he is , in the second wilder fight he was absoultley schooling wilder like fury was in the second unfortunately for ortiz is chin isn’t as good as fury’s
Re: Let's call a spade a spade: Tyson Fury's record stinks
I struggle to remember what I ate yesterday. I seem to remember the arena being 120 degrees. Was a tough environment to fight in but Fury got the win so it’s 1-1 with the Big Mac.mickey1975 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 07:46 If I remember correctly, Tyson had a much harder time in the middle rounds of the rematch. Anyway, the OP is even beyond that. Mentioning Abell, Schwarz, Pianeta and Seferi, while not mentioning Chisora and Wallin. Also, Cunningham and even Kevin Johnson at that point were better than Abell, Schwarz, Pianeta and Seferi.
Fury still has something to prove, but the others have even more.
-Klit was 39 and never won again.
-Wilder has been questioned by many forever, i still have no idea if he is good or not, i think honestly his value has gone up to most since the fighting Fury.
-Chisora is his 3rd best opponent, decent enough but not great.
-Wallin is still not proven, he was an absolute noone when he fough Fury, it was a gross tune up, he only got his fame because he cut fury.
Wouldent mention cunningham as a resume saver, he had lost 3 of his last 4 going into the fury fight. And kingpin, while pre punchinig bag era, was not showing shades of ali...
Fury is probably the best heavyweight of the era. he even might be favourite vs any heavyweight of any era. But its not backed in great resume.
Well said.
Fury might well be able to beat any HW ever on a good night, but his resume is only 2.5 fights thick.
Nb. We all know "Big" (small) John McDermott beat Tyson first time and it matters not a jot.

Come on Mick - we know your either trying to wind us up or on the beer by your own admission.
The casuals may claim Fury could have held his own against any heavyweight in history - those who have access to YouTube know very differently.
There's no denying how bad Fury is by watching back any of the Wilder fights; I can't imagine any top 10 ATG heavyweight not getting Wilder out of there a lot sooner than Fury did .. the 2nd and 3rd fights only emphasises how poor Fury is.
