I know what you are saying but given the size of the fight and its involving their number 1 fighter, it is acceptable. In the pre days were seemingly everyone is a journalists and pundits, boxers and serious fans are having their mic stuck to their face everyday, that's the problem. I'm sure in days gone by both matchroom and fw have rearrange shows....difference is we the fight fans might not have known when the injury took place. IMO there is NO WAY Mike Coppinger KNEW the extent of the injury 24 hours after the press conference. When exactly did Williams have the injury? It was an educated (and ultimately accurate) guess from Coppinger....Not even Williams knew the extent of the injury.

Then there was also the rescheduling, that doesnt happen overnight. It took several weeks of negotiating. Cant just automatically assume everyone will say yes, let alone the date side of things.

I would actually say well done to boxxer for getting it back running in a week. Yes they could have kept us in the loop, but plenty were anyway and with misinformation "fights off" was said far more than "fights postponed " on ifl. It must have been tricky to keep fans in the loop when they had results of scans to come through, egos to massage and dates to finalise.

IMO better to keep quiet than go....umm "Willians has an injury , dont know if the fight will be postponed or cancelled ". No doubt if Williams injury was more serious than it was then Eubank would have fought in December but possibly in a different venue

I’m sure Coppinger didn’t know the full extent of the injury but I still don’t think it should take over a week to have a scan, a specialist review the scan and advise and sort logistics/contract for a new date.

It’s not like they were 7/8 weeks away from fight night - they were 2 weeks away and fans would have been sorting hotels/transport and it’s left it too late in the day to get a replacement show sorted - even a York Hall show - so it hasn’t helped Sky either. December is always a big month for U.K. boxing on Sky.

The big promoters will have contacts that will be able to sort out scans/reviews within 24 hours of something being highlighted and it won’t take long to find out what dates the arena is free and what dates work for Sky either.

Anyway, it’s all sorted now and I’m looking forward to the fight in January.

Looks that way, unless the new one is very mild like they are saying, or has come and gone. It will be prevalent in 3-4 weeks by how it is spreading in SA. Info is still scarce.

I think Sky took their inspiration from the Tory party in dealing with this cancellation.

They delayed announcing the fight was off until they could bang on about Khan Brook, in the hope it would sneak under the radar!

Press Release | Cori Gibbs To Return on Eubank-Williams, Inks Pact With BOXXER

BOXXER Series super lightweight champion Cori Gibbs has signed an exclusive long-term promotional agreement with BOXXER following his tournament victory last month at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

The Birmingham ace picked up three victories in one night - defeating two Merseyside fighters on home ground - to be crowned champion and picking up a share of the £100,000 prize money - the largest in UK boxing one-night tournament history.

Gibbs, 28, was the bookies’ favourite coming into the tournament with the only unbeaten record and his sublime southpaw skills overcame experienced rivals in former Commonwealth Champion Sean Dodds in the opening quarter-final, then former English Champion Lee Appleyard in the semis and former WBA International Champion Tom Farrell in the grand final.

Despite building a 13-0 record prior to entering the BOXXER Series, Gibbs was relatively unknown outside of the boxing scene, but came into the tournament with a tremendous amateur pedigree.

He won 55 of his 58 bouts and was a member of the Team GB squad representing England and captured four national titles, including the coveted senior Four Nations trophy, a GB title and two-time winner of the Haringey Cup.

Boxing talent runs in the Gibbs family with his younger brother Tion, 26, who is undefeated in the pros with eight wins and is the current Midlands Area Lightweight Champion.

The Boxxer series provides ambitious and determined boxers like Gibbs with a golden opportunity to showcase their skills to a wider audience and punch their way out of obscurity into the bright lights.

Now with an unbeaten record of 16-0 and an enhanced profile, Gibbs will also see his position in the British rankings elevated as he pursues a shot at the British title before moving on internationally.

And the first fight of the new deal will see him featured in BOXXER’s first marquee event of 2022 on the undercard of the huge British showdown between Chris Eubank Jr. against Liam Williams on Saturday 29th January at the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff.

Gibbs said, ”Competing for BOXXER was such a great experience, it was a no-brainer for me when I was offered a long-term deal. If you're a British boxer, this is where you want to be. I'm looking forward to winning my first professional title live on Sky Sports next year."

While at this level Eu needs to be cuter he should never neglect his workrate, someone coming at you all night long is a nightmare to fight. Nearly did for both BJS and Groves
