Martin is pretty terrible. If ortiz has anything left he should win easily. Its an all around meaningless fight. Id pay 5 bucks to watch live, no more

Martin did well against Kownacki, who then went and got splattered.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 15:32 Martin is pretty terrible. If ortiz has anything left he should win easily. Its an all around meaningless fight. Id pay 5 bucks to watch live, no more
Helenius is a weird one though. Veteran with some decent wins on his resume, but then has the loses which he could have won too.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin | FOX PPV - January 1, 2022
Kownacki isnt a puncher, hes straight ahead and wide open
Ortiz has nice footwork and angles. Totally different fight. Martin should rush the old man but i dont think he has that temperament

Agree, although the longer it goes the more I see Martin getting back in it.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 17:05 Kownacki isnt a puncher, hes straight ahead and wide open

Neither of these two are top 20 in my opinion. Its a fun low levle fight that shouldent influence world titles at all. (winner should be an easy KO win for hrgovic).
Ortiz was decent but fairly unproven and is not 42 (cuban years) + has a few heavy KO losses recently. Martin beat washington (wow), Whats his second best carrer preformance.... Losing on points to Kow?
I would back a Johnathan rice or Jerry Forrest type as a 50-50 with either of these two currently.

I hope martin crushes him and puts him out to pasture. Couldnt you see a draw though?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 20:29 ortiz should win early easy ko if he's as good as we've long heard and martin is as bad as we've heard

Both these guys need to be taken out of the heavyweight equation. Both have had plenty of time to make good, neither have, time to go....Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 22:04I hope martin crushes him and puts him out to pasture. hey wtf that is weird, i just looked into it and odds hardly listed anywhere, id assume ortiz would be a decent sized fave
Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin | FOX PPV - January 1, 2022
I guess he'll lose, but I'd rather see him winning this. Ortiz has been fighting nonames, while Martin took on better competitors and was more entertaining.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 01:09 it would be pretty hilarious if chuck won, after being treated as a total joke for years in comparison to big bad luis
Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin | FOX PPV - January 1, 2022
It took him 10 rounds to stop Travis Kaufman, and he went the distance with Christian Hammer. That was a younger, more active version of Ortiz, and now he's been knocked out twice. I think the most likely outcome is more like a competitive, late KO.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 20:29 ortiz should win early easy ko if he's as good as we've long heard and martin is as bad as we've heard

Frank Sanchez is no longer fighting Negron (COVID).
He’ll instead fight spoiler Christian Hammer.

Full Undercard Press Release
Unbeaten lightweight contender Frank Martin, who fights under Errol Spence Jr.’s Man Down Promotions banner, will square off against Romero Duno in a 10-round showdown that tops PBC action live on FOX and FOX Deportes Saturday, January 1 kicking off the New Year from Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
The FOX broadcast begins at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT and will see undefeated Cuban heavyweights go toe-to-toe as Geovany Bruzon battles 2016 Olympian Lenier Pero in the 10-round co-feature.
The two-hour FOX kickoff show precedes a FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View heavyweight extravaganza featuring top contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz facing former heavyweight champion Charles Martin in the main event, plus heavyweight rising star Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sanchez battling Christian Hammer in the co-main event. Hammer replaces Carlos Negron, who was forced to withdraw after a positive COVID test.
The pay-per-view action begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and will also see heavyweight contenders Jonnie Rice and Michael Coffie battle in a 10-round rematch, former title challenger Gerald “El Gallo Negro” Washington in a 10-round showdown against Turkish Olympian Ali Eren Demirezen and unbeaten Viktor Faust facing Iago Kiladze in a 10-round attraction to open the pay-per-view.
Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com. Martin vs. Duno is promoted in association with Man Down Promotions.
The 26-year-old Martin (14-0, 10 KOs) has risen up the lightweight rankings in 2021 with a pair of impressive victories. Martin knocked out the previously unbeaten Jerry Perez in a dominating performance in April, before most recently earning a unanimous decision over Ryan Kielczweski in August. Originally from Indianapolis, Martin now trains in the Dallas-area under the guidance of top trainer Derrick James and alongside unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
Representing his native Cotabato City, Maguindanao, Philippines, Duno (24-2, 19 KOs) enters the fight the winner of three-straight bouts, all by knockout. The 26-year-old has put together the winning-streak following a 2019 defeat to unbeaten contender Ryan Garcia. Duno’s 2021 triumphs have come over Ramon Elizer Esperanza in August and Jonathan Perez in September.
The 24-year-old Bruzon (6-0, 5 KOs) was born in Holguin, Cuba and now fights out of Las Vegas. A pro since 2019, Bruzon scored first or second round stoppages in his first five bouts, before his most recent contest ended in a technical decision victory. Bruzon makes his U.S. debut on January 1, having most recently won that decision over German Garcia in April, a fight that saw him go eight rounds for the first time.
A 2016 Olympian from Camaguey, Cuba, Pero (5-0, 3 KOs) had an extensive and successful amateur career that spanned over 100 fights, including multiple victories over countryman Frank Sanchez, in addition to challenges against heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, heavyweight prospect Filip Hrgovic and Olympic gold medalist Bakhodir Jalolov. The 29-year-old now fights out of Trelew, Chubut, Argentina, and will also be making his U.S. debut on January 1. Pero most recently knocked out Dumar Carrascal in the first round in June.

Yeh, whereas a guy like Negron, Sanchez would pick him apart and end him quick.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 19:24 sanchez - hammer will be awful. have you guys seen hammer lately in these types of fights? just comes to spoil as much as he can.

I saw him Vs Hughie and thought it was "OK" until the injury. No one really looks good with shades of Ali.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑28 Dec 2021, 19:24 sanchez - hammer will be awful. have you guys seen hammer lately in these types of fights? just comes to spoil as much as he can.
The only one before that I've seen was Ortiz and oh boy I forgot how dreary it was.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin | FOX PPV - January 1, 2022
any of his fights lately vs good opponents.......all total snoozers where he barely wins a round nor does he come to win them. what do people expect him to do vs sanchez? and frank is already a bit boring himself, having plenty of ability but rarely pressing the issue
sure chris got some past upsets at a lower level, but look what he's actually been turning in these days. big carlos may be much easier to KO, but he also comes to fight, has some power himself, and would make for more fun and a less dragged out affair

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin | FOX PPV - January 1, 2022
I think healthy hammer gives frank some problems. But seeing as he allegedly got injured 2 months ago so it seems like a weird choice. He was a spoiler against some pretty tricky guys, dont put frank on there levle. I dont expect a fun fight though, frank is pretty boring too, Does the bare minimum to win rounds and Would be weird if hammer has to lead. If hammer faked the injury too months ago and is fit i expect an interesting fight.
Keen to see those two cuban heavie prospects fight each other. 4 cuban heavies on one card is pretty unheard off.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin | FOX PPV - January 1, 2022
I’m incredibly embarrassed to say this, but due to the recent drought in boxing, coupled with the likelihood of many decent contests in January being postponed, I’ve suddenly become really excited about the prospect of watching the Ortiz-Martin fight!
As weird as this may sound, this fight could be bout of the month for January 2022 (not that it’ll have much competition)!

Ortiz, 32-2(27), is currently listed as a 5:1 betting favorite over fellow lefty Martin, 28-2-1(25). Both men have been largely inactive as of late, and neither man can afford a loss – or a dull, unimpressive performance.
