Fury opponents I'd like: Usyk; Joyce; Joshua; Whyte; Ruiz; Sanchez; Anderson; Hrgovic; Makhmudov; Dychko... Even Dubois or Adeleye. Parker's okay if he'd look past friendship (as he should).

So I've mentally crossed those off and expect someone else. Helenius is probably the best of the rest, but very much unfancied. If he turns up in career-best shape and has a real go I reserve the right to change my mind!

ruiz is no better an opponent than helenius, a short blob who looked awful vs arreola and in the aj rematch. he wont get near fury, his attributes are tailor made for fury to skate to a shutout

that said , i wouldnt really mind either tbh. fury keeping active, at least against decent opponents, is a start, instead of skipping off into nowhere after getting a title. ruiz/helly , then another fight this year vs a better opponent. not bad

I think it might be entertaining!

If Ruiz is the right kind of hungry, his low centre of gravity and head movement might give Fury a test. He'd struggle to close the gap, sure, but what if Fury doesn't wanna throw on the inside?

If he uncorks an uppercut it's a 50:50 between knocking Ruiz on his arse and punching himself in the face again.

i think hes just not nearly as good (in particular not nearly as hard punching) as a lot of people thought he was. he was pants vs arreola, pants in aj 2, and frankly in many other fights he's been unimpressive. aj 1 will be his 1 hit wonder win

still, that win has him hanging onto a spot in the top 10, he's considered a contender by everyone, so if fury keeps active and fights him next year and then fights another contender, or aj-usyk 2 winner, that's good. i dont mind ruiz or helenius really if there is someone solid to follow in 2022

the undisputed fight gotta happen

You're probably right, but until it comes to pass I'll take Ruiz as a respectable name. Fury needs to face heavies who pose some kind of threat from here on out.

i dont mind ruiz either, i just dont think he's really got any better a chance of causing fury issues than helenius is, and dont really buy him being a top flight heavy any more. to me helenius is actually more interesting because he has power in that right and is near fury's height rather than a stubby 6 foot 260. likely fury would beat both easily, but then again he was supposed to do that vs otto wallin too

whyte, joyce, usyk, AJ and parker are the only ones true levle to be worthy of fury. DDD, Yoka, Hrgo, and hughie fury would be passable (ruiz is good enough to be passable but but has been poor and styalisticaly is terrible.). Helenious is the step bellow those guys (but above ruiz stylisticaly).

ya pretty much i agree with that. though tbh i'll take any of those guys (minus) hughie if it keeps fury active. ruiz or helenius, then whyte , then undisputed = great year

or ruiz/helenius, then undisputed = also very good

that undisputed gotta happen though baby

What does that make AJ, then? Ruiz beat the shit out of him. AJ was terrified to go near him in the rematch.

it was a 1 hit wonder result, can happen, especially when a fighter actually stays busy and consistently defends their titles instead of going on mental health/ped leave because they cant take the pressure of being champ. hell, sometimes even an otto '50 stitches' wallin can cause much bigger scares than a wlad klit

ruiz could hardly put a glove near aj in the rematch and looked awful vs arreola. had previously been beaten by a guy aj beat easily, struggled with the ghost of liakhovic, etc.. he hit the jackpot aj 1 and is dining out on it. he's a contender still fair play, but in reality he's not some type flight guy and isnt any more challenging for fury than a guy like helenius would be

i dont mind ruiz as an opponent - he is still a contender and has some ability- i just dont really see why people should be happy with him but think helenius would be sh!tty. andy isnt some elite fighter ppl.

ruiz -fury would prob be another chisora-fury 2

Terrible fights for the lineal king - Fighting Joshua and Whyte leftovers.

why not Joyce, much better fight than these two.

Ruiz is hardly a leftover. He's 1-1 with AJ and had the much more convincing win. Wasn't Whyte scheduled to box a Fury victim but ducked him?

Ruiz would be a top 3 win for Fury, Helenius top 5 maybe, still I give both men little to no hope of winning, I couldn't care less about splits and arbitrations, I just want to see Fury in a decent fight thats not Wilder for a change, the ABCs especially the WBC need to get their sh1t together, stop making belts for anyone who can walk and chew gum every 5 minutes, the money these pudenda make in sanctioning fees and they do whatever the fvk they want

There is a weird bias on this forum towards Ruiz and I’ve noticed, against, say, Wilder.

Most posters seems to dislike the British scene, and it seems clear that Ruiz is held in some lofty regard for stopping Joshua, whereas Wilder is dismissed for losing to Fury.

Ruiz to me is a poor man’s Witherspoon. Ghastly overweight, albeit with some economical moves, good timing and a weighty punch. It was enough vs a stiff, nervous Joshua who was falling into amateur habits, for his only US fight. Got the good win, then was utterly unable to move his career forward from that.

Supposedly he’s getting in shape with “Team Canelo”, yet struggled vs Arreola, just as Kownacki did. If you’re any good you should be knocking out or stopping these big softies who throw 100s of shots but don’t really get anywhere. Wilder’s done this with Stiverne and Arreola. And Helenius has done it twice with Kownacki.

Sounds about right. However, Wallin's value can grow further. His matchup against Ruiz is quite intriguing. Ruiz just got that reputation because of upsetting Joshua and sharing championship.

There's nothing weird about rating Ruiz. He beat the shit out of AJ and ran Parker extremely close. Didn't even train for the rematch yet still had AJ petrified. As for Wilder, I would never slate a world champion of 6 years who's knocked down every man he's faced.

Ruiz is good. Helenius is good. Neither should be fighting Fury though. If not Usyk or Joshua, Joyce should be fighting Fury. Not interested in Whyte.

Joyce has a broken wrist.

Ruiz is good (but overrated because of his AJ hammering in their first fight) whilst Helenius is a poor opponent for Fury at this stage.

Ruiz doesn’t look capable of beating anyone good on points. If he can stop them, fine. But he does have enough stamina to win on points. If he can’t get in shape then he probably shouldn’t be fighting the champ.

Helenius made a good case for himself displaying punching power, solid repertoire, nice balance & subtle footwork in a pair of one sided upset victories over the latest “dad bod” hero to take heavyweight by storm.

Helenius at one point was a damn good prospect, demonstrating progress stopping Peter, Liakhovic & Brewster. I was really happy to see him mentally & physically healthy & battering the latest hype job.

i'd prefer big rob tbh, i just think andy is totally made for a boring tyson shutout, rob probably gets easily beaten too but at least he can reach fury's head

Me too. I was expecting Helenius to show age and all his worst qualities against Kownacki, but he surprisingly destroyed the Pole in style.

Neither are especially inspiring fights, but to be honest I don’t really see Whyte as inspiring either.
None of the three of them pose any realistic threat

Helenius's stamina and chin tend to decline when the going gets tough. Otherwise he has shown that he can be a top 15 boxer. I still think that Fury will end up having to fight Whyte and this is all negotiation tactics but Fury will make it very very difficult for Helenius to hit him, especially when it gets to the later rounds.

This should be a fun fight. :box:

TNN can't really win unless he goes for it and starts banging.
No other strategy makes much sense for him - should be a great watch.
