Let's be fair here! I agree that style-wise. Benavidez could be an intriguing fight for Canelo but realistically speaking Benavidez has a poor resume at smw than Plant or Callum Smith! Do I want to see Canelo fighting Charlo or Benavidez?Absolutely! But first I want to see these guys fighting each other, or like I said before, let's see Benavidez vs Zurdo Ramirez/Charlo or Charlo vs Andrade fights, and we have some legit-proven opponents for Canelo! It would be very nice if Beterbiev and Bivol would fight each other too.
Staying safe and waiting for Canelo's big payday is wise but is f-ing annoying for the boxing fans.
It's easy to bash Canelo for picking the right opponents he wants but we forget that all these fighters are staying safe and wait that big payday from Canelo!

I agree. Andrade needs to move up and fight some big names at 168. Plant or Benevidez would be awesome.
Charlo? He may as well retire. Refusing to unify with Andrade, wasting his prime.
True! Imo if Andrade wants to make some noise and get Canelo's attention, he should move up at 168 and challenge Benavidez but first he should fight Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.
If Benavidez wants a shot at Canelo, he should move-up to 175 and fight someone like Beterbiev, Bivol, Joe Smith Jr., Gilberto, or even Callum Smith. A showdown between a MW and a SMW is not going to do much to compel a fight with someone who is now campaigning at 175+ and probably never returning to 168. IF Alvarez was staying at 168 for a few more years, then a Benavidez - Charlo fight at 168 would go a long way towards lining-up for a shot at Alvarez.
Charlo should forget about it. He's two divisions too light at this point. If he really wanted an Alvarez fight, maybe he could've got a shot at 160 back in 2017-8 if he had fought like Demetrius Andrade and Chris Eubank in 2016.
Benavidez would be on the target, if he had the belt. Yet resume-wise he isn't really accomplished. Canelo has nothing to prove at the SMW, but if he stays in that weight, Benavidez gotta be the best opponent left for the shot.
Charlo is probably out of Canelo's interest, since he is at MW. Anyway, with the recent Makabu talk it's more logical to wait Canelo at CW and LHW. Probably he'll vacate his undisputed championship. So, out of these two, Benavidez will be more likely to face the Redhead at the LHW, but he had a lot of to prove there.

Good points.
I think Charlo would move up even at CW to fight Canelo.

"If you look at his[Benavidez] record, he has not beaten anyone, the most he has done is a win over Anthony Dirrell, who for me is a champion who did not have a great run, somewhat mediocre at 168 pounds," Reynoso told Diego Benavidez.
"Many have called Benavidez overrated. He has also been a world champion, but they took the title from him due to indiscipline, once for doping and the second time for his weight.
"He has gained a reputation for what he does and doesn't do, that he knocks people out, that he throws a lot punches and that he would be a very difficult opponent for Saul. But what motivates us to fight with him? He has won practically nothing. He fights with C class opponents."
Canelo is currently the undisputed champion at 168-pounds.
At the WBC's recent convention in Mexico, he was given permission to make a big jump to cruiserweight to challenge WBC world champion Ilunga Makabu.
"Now that we are going to get to cruiserweight, I see it being feasible that Saul can win, that's why I asked for the fight. In the gym he fights with heavyweights, and I have seen how he's knocked them out in the gym," Reynoso said.
Outside of the fight with Makabu, Reynoso indicates that there is interest in facing opponents like WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo. And, they are open to a trilogy fight with IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin.
"As champions we have to look for the best opponents, fighters with titles, who generate expectations. We want to fight Charlo, and there is also Golovkin," Reynoso said.
Well, Reynoso is saying the truth about Benavidez but I'd not like to see Canelo facing Charlo or 40 y/o GGG. He doesn't say nothing about Bivol or Beterbiev?

None of the top-tier world-rated fighters campaigning from 160lbs to 175lbs are willing to engage in high-risk moderately low-reward paydays that could scupper their chances for receiving a mega Canelo payday!
Whilst I appreciate Canelo’s pugilistic ability, his mere existence is the main reason why we’re seeing most champions needlessly engaging in lots of mismatches.
Canelo isn’t intentionally doing anything wrong, but he is definitely the reason why his rivals are refusing to face each other.

Indeed, Canelo is doing the right moves for him. Imo Canelo finished his businesses at 160 and 168. He'd need to do the same at 175!
The Makabu fight for Canelo is a joke. It reminds me of SRL fighting Danny LaLonde for another belt to fool casual fans. Hand picking guys for a belt are lame. He has bigger challenges at 175 with the top guys there. Canelo fighting at his walking around weight is something Manny Pac or Floyd has done for years. Dumb fans will eat it up though.

Its another grab of a title for his resume but honestly Makabu is a top 5 CW atm. So on paper Makabu is solid. We know that Makabu got stopped by Bellew some years ago.
Beterbiev and Bivol are the main fights that I'd like to see Canelo in 2022.

Certain boxing fans seem to insist upon getting themselves screwed over.
Perhaps some odd form of psychological transference leads them to wish to protect their 'heroes' by steering them away from their most dangerous/exciting fights.
Not that Clenelo needs the slightest encouragement.
If so, perhaps they ought to ask themselves whether they could not find more suitable candidates than the petulant PED king of boxing?
No? Can't do that? Won't do that?
Ok, fair enough! Then keep repeating the mantra.
Canelo is the greatest.
Canelo is the greatest.
Canelo is the greatest (repeat ad infinitum).

"Why not Benavidez and Charlo should prove each other to earn a fight with Canelo?"
Do you mean "why doesn't Benavidez fight Charlo, to determine who should fight Canelo"?

Charlo first said he would fight Benevidez at 168, then said a catch weight, knowing Benevidez can hardly make 168. Not too brave. Maybe he'll fight Andrade if Andrade cuts to 154.1 to fight him at 160? I've lost all respect for Mall.

To be fair, it's not like Canelo only fights once, twice a year....so it's hardly like a long detour where we'll be waiting on a MORE meaningful fight.
As mentioned above Makubu is legit one of the top cruisers. We all know it's a realistic win win for Canelo, but we also know he'll be back in with a Benavidez, Charlo, Bivol or Beterbiev thereafter!
