He would have stated that. He's not exactly shy, is he? Lauren Price got one. Even Curtis Woodhouse did last year.

Surprised Frank Bruno hasn't got his gong yet, he ticks the boxes and is already an MBE (or an OBE... I forget...)

Why do some people get them and some people don't?

Unfortunately some of his past comments won’t help with this and the fact he’s served a drugs ban.

Does he deserve something for boxing? Yes.
Does he deserve something for pushing the ‘It’s ok to have mental health problems’ to a group of people who are unlikely to express themselves? Yes.

He’ll probably only get something once he retires.

There was a local guy who won boxing bronze in commonwealth games and had a short but unsuccessful pro boxing career cut short due to an accident
From the time he quit boxing he was involved in amateur boxing for the next 50+ years.
He dipped into his own pocket on a regular basis to open amateur gyms, and keep them open .. he regularly dipped into his own pocket to buy some of us fighting boots and gloves.
He was a legend in the local and wider boxing community.
He was knocking 80ys old before he got an Honour .. the lowest one .. BEM.

Yet a young tennis player wins 1 significant tournament and gets a MBE, and 2 professional cyclists get made a Sir and Dame for services to cycling .. basically for doing a job they are very well paid for.

The Honours are nonsense.

There's truth in that. My brother is a SO in a maximum security jail. He reckons the quickest way out is to kick off for the first few years, then behave. They think they've cured you. If you're good all along they think you're playing the system.

You need someone to campaign for you if you’re not well known. Without it it’s very unlikely to be on their radar. You also need to be relatively clean or discretions need to be known and atoned for.

My cousin got a CBE in the honours list last January. He got it for doing his job and he’s already paid very well for it. His company put him forward for it and knew who to push it to.

I'm more upset that Blair got knighted!

It not because Fury is a traveller, it's because he isn't politically correct

Wouldn't it be politically correct to embrace a high achieving traveller?

Not one who speaks his mind.

He would have got one if he had played the AJ humble and redemption card

There's a lack of understanding here about how the honours system works.

You have to be nominated and an account of why you deserve a gong written up. Then the honours committee make their decisions. I suspect that nobody has written Fury up. None of the people really close to him would know how to get the forms. He's not got a BBBofC licence so they won't do it.

Brian Hughes, for example, was proposed by his son Damien for his. It was deserved but without Damien grabbing the bull by the horns it wouldn't have happened.

i think olympic gold helped aj as well , if your face fits you get honours earlier the good guys in life get honoured later on it’s beyond me in a way why sports starts get honours just fit being good at sports can understand if you give something back and genuinely put yourself out there but a lot don’t
