Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
From last night. Unbeaten WBC #5, WBO #5 heavyweight Frank Sanchez (20-0, 13 KOs) outclassed late sub Christian Hammer (26-9, 16 KOs) over ten rounds, but was reluctant to let his hands go en route to a dull unanimous decision. Sanchez was credited with a dubious knockdown after a pushdown in round ten. Scores were 100-89 3x. - fightnews
Frank Sanchez may not be the one punch knockout artist that heavyweight boxing fans SO crave, however he has completely outclassed everyone that they've put in the ring with him, including Efe Ajagba.
What do you think of Frank Sanchez? Where does he stand in the heavyweight division? Who would you like to see him fight this year?

Decent fighter. Yet to be really tested. Hopefully next time out will be a true step up and we'll get to see what he's made of.
Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
He's good, but, of course, he has a lot to prove. By the eyetest he looks like a potential top 5 fighter. I can see him dealing with the likes of Whyte, Parker, Ruiz. He is technically solid, fast and smart.

Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
Efe Ajagba seemed like a test.
I would like to fix my own thread title ..... Frank Sanchez is not a "prospect" ... he';s a "contender". And looking more into this I expect him to be in line for a world title shot much sooner than expected. Here (below) is where Sanchez stands in the rankings. Maybe a Joe Joyce vs Frank Sanchez matchup this year?
WBC :
1.Deontay Wilder
2. Andy Ruiz Jr.
3. Joe Joyce
4. Luis Ortiz
5. Joseph Parker
6. Frank Sanchez
WBO :
1. NOT RATED
2. Joe Joyce
3. Joseph Parker
4. Andy Ruiz, Jr
5. Frank Sanchez
Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight contender Frank Sanchez?
I think the Efe fight was more about how little Ajagba has progressed since 2019.Las Vegas boxing guy wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 10:31Efe Ajagba seemed like a test.

The fastest Vs slowest top heavyweight. It would be interesting to see how that would play out.Las Vegas boxing guy wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 10:31 Maybe a Joe Joyce vs Frank Sanchez matchup this year?

I’m just going to copy/paste my thoughts about Sanchez, which were originally posted to the Ortiz-Martin round-by-round thread:
Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 00:16 During the last three years, Christian Hammer has only defeated two of the six opponents he’s faced… and both of the fighters he beat were utterly disgraceful journeymen that had 24 losses on their record.
Frank Sanchez doesn’t need the rounds, since he’s fought plenty of them during his twenty-fight pro career.
Instead he needed an opponent that would challenge him, allowing Sanchez to learn and improve… and Christian Hammer was never going to be that guy!
It was an inevitably pointless fight that’s actually harmed the Cuban’s career by detracting from the forward momentum he gained from the Ajagba victory.
Has Frank Sanchez simply experienced a one-off bad day at the office or did we make too much of the Ajagba win (excessively flattering the Cuban, by regarding his victory over the Nigerian as a greater achievement than it really was)?
Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
I think that Sanchez should fight the Yoka v Bakole winner. He has the skill and gift sets to compete with anyone at HW.
I think that he is at the same relative spot as Frank Martin is at Lightweight. Difference is that Frank Martin has an eraser. Frank Sanchez has not brandished that level of power at HW.

You missed BORING.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of his fluid movement, full spectrum punch selection, and his accuracy. But spare me days he is boring. It's like someone put Lara on the 'roids as a kid, so he grew big and strong with' nads like raisins, but missed out on all the aggression.
Yes I think he can run circles around Whyte, might even knock him down, Parker and Ruiz might have a better chance with their hand speed but still probably another two boring decisions to Frank.
I hope Frank will raise his offence to the level of his opponent, and as he moves up in competition be more entertaining, but that dream faded a bit more after last night. The way he dealt with Aggiejabbie was sublime and need I say: quite boring
I think he is a championship contender right now, but the way he fights isn't going to get promoters or fans excited about his rise in the HW division unfortunately.

If it went the full distance then Sanchez should not be ranked so highly considering Hughie Fury stopped Hammer in five or six rounds not that long ago.
Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
Yeah, he's a no-risk operator. But probably his fight can be exciting against higher level roughhouses, for instance, Joyce.KiwiRider wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:07Thanks for saving me typing that out

Hmmm, I think back to the Uysk Joyce fight where Uysk was running rings around Joyce and suggest the same thing Vs Sanchez but with less actionDrDuke wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:26Yeah, he's a no-risk operator. Maybe. But maybe Usyk is just much better than Sanchez, while Joyce is definitely much better now, than he was back then.KiwiRider wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:33Hmmm, I think back to the Uysk Joyce fight where Uysk was running rings around Joyce and suggest the same thing Vs Sanchez but with less actionDrDuke wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:26Yeah, he's a no-risk operator. Hughie stopped Hammer and Sanchez didnt? Sounds like Hughie might be developing his man strength..... 5 years and he'll be unbeatablemargaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:40hammer quit with an injury vs hughie, wasnt like he was dropping hammer or anythingHomicideHenry wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:24 If it went the full distance then Sanchez should not be ranked so highly considering Hughie Fury stopped Hammer in five or six rounds not that long ago.

well that's a good point. and actually hughie stopped hammer in 5 but povetkin and ortiz didnt over 12 and 10 rounds. therefore hughie hits harder than both combined ![[icon_e_surprised.gif] :oo](./images/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif)
Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
Do you think Sanchez is just over cautious, or maybe he has a suspect chin he needs to protect?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:40hammer quit with an injury vs hughie, wasnt like he was dropping hammer or anythingHomicideHenry wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:24 If it went the full distance then Sanchez should not be ranked so highly considering Hughie Fury stopped Hammer in five or six rounds not that long ago.

Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
i think its just his style, not necessarily reflective of a suspect chin. its common with a lot of cubans. they box to just do enough and then dont take risks beyond that

Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
I don't believe the injury excuse for one minute to be honest. And all I have ever seen from Sanchez is him doing a lot of running. I was not impressed with him on the undercard of Fury-Wilder 3 and I'm still not impressed. Jimmy Young was more offensive than this man is.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:40hammer quit with an injury vs hughie, wasnt like he was dropping hammer or anythingHomicideHenry wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 14:24 If it went the full distance then Sanchez should not be ranked so highly considering Hughie Fury stopped Hammer in five or six rounds not that long ago.

maybe hughie is just a devestating hellacious punching monster now
agree though on sanchez being boring as f@ck. stinks the place up with his refusal to do anything but the minimum needed

Hammer just flat out quit cuz he couldn't do anything. Nothing was really going his way. Someone quitting is still a stoppage.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Jan 2022, 15:57 pov and ortiz didnt stop hammer either

Hughie Fury has a long long way to go, no question about that. That said, Sanchez has demonstrated nothing beyond speed and elusiveness as far as I'm concerned.
Chris Byrd would at least occasionally trade punches. This man is just constantly on his bicycle doing very little.

Re: Your thoughts on heavyweight prospect Frank Sanchez?
his win over efe is good i guess, but i dont know if that has me convinced.
he fought negative vs hammer who was in kingpin journyman mode. frank couldent dint him, hammer was laughing and talking half the fight just covering up and walking fowards 90% of the fight
the rest of his resume is so weak its almost meaninless.
I dont rate him top 20. and he is a terrible to watch (although that should change if he is in with a high quality opponent, negativity dosent matter then because the battle itself is interesting.)

He's a genuine contender, but he doesn't do anything specifically great.
