whats that fight worth at bids? million bucks? ortiz getting 400k ish... I will 100% excuse a duck here. but id guess he can make 5 times that vs ruiz. or double it vs a very beatable helenios.

Ortiz is old, if he genuinely backs him self to beat hrg then AJ/Usyk/Parker next and he goes for it fair play, but really get the garenteed cash and retire is the smart move.

If maximizing payout is the game, you are totally correct. (yeah, it's the game)

big bad luis ordered to fight hrg, winner fighting aj-usyk 2 winner for unified titles. i guess if luis turns it down he cant moan about hrg ducking him like he does for seemingly everyone. in fact by luis and his nutbois standards turning this down would be a quack quack :oo

This is where Ortiz either proves his dream is to become world champion, like he says it is, or ducks it for the money.
Either way I don't blame him.
Follow your dream.
Take the money and retire.

i wouldnt blame him for taking a fight like ruiz instead, but if you use ortiz fanboi standards this would most certainly count as a duck if he turns it down

If he doesn’t have anything better on the table then the smart thing to do here is to accept the offer.... he can always back out later when something better is put on the table infront of him.

This is a very hard fight for Luis Ortiz, it would practically be insane for bet against Filip when it comes to this one.

Definitely!
The Ortiz I saw last weekend, despite winning, is prime for the picking, and someone should pay for that name on their record.

Ortiz gotta take it. He has nothing to lose, as he's 42 and close to the retirement.

I disagree Doc.
He may not have to take it to earn the most money. Few are confident he can beat Hrgovic, and given no one knows who Hrgovic is outside of the Eastern Block, who will front up with decent money for that?
Like our other esteemed posters have said, the money is in Ruiz Ortiz, by some margin I expect. It may also not be that winnable for the old fella, depending on what shape Andy comes in at. But at least he will be well remunerated because Ruiz Ortiz in America sells.

I kinda think that the current version of Filip would beat any version of Luis Ortiz.

Assuming Ortiz is willing to accept the bout, then this is great news for Hrgovic.

Luis Ortiz seems to lack durability, which is a flaw no fighter should have when facing a heavy-handed crude Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robot like Hrgovic.

That said, I have a feeling the bout won’t happen, because Luis Ortiz is probably capable of earning far more money facing one of his fellow stablemates, such as Andy Ruiz Jr.

We also know that Luis Ortiz has previously ducked Joshua, Whyte, Joyce, Wallin and Ustinov, which means we can’t rule out the Cuban ducking Hrgovic too, even if the money being offered is very decent.

So I’m going to go out on a limb and make a bold claim, which is… Luis Ortiz will find a reason to reject the Filip Hrgovic fight!

I really do hope I’m wrong, because I’d love to see the Croatian end the Cuban’s career via a one-sided three or four rounds brutal stoppage loss, but I just have this feeling the fight won’t happen!

Already discussed these situations at length in other threads.

If you're not even aware of the heavily-covered AJ situation, which clearly seems to be the case, then there's really no point in me discussing this matter with you.

The Ruiz bout is good for Ortiz, but not so good for Ruiz, who has recently been mentioned among the possibilities for Fury. Also, Ruiz' team can be not very confident about Andy taking risks because of some problems during the Arreola bout. So, probably Ortiz just should take any decent opportunity. His timing has always been bad and he has almost no time left.

Ortiz is prime for the taking. If ruiz would probably get paid millions to be a massive favourite in a fight. who else is he going to do that vs? Sure if theres mega bucks out there for a title fight he takes that instead, but this is a pretty good backup.

I do try to refrain from going off-topic though.

We know for certain that Ortiz has previously rejected bouts, so he has a proven track-record that suggests he might turn down the opportunity to face Filip Hrgovic.

If I went much deeper than that by providing lengthy detailed explanations of Luis Ortiz rejecting fights against the likes of Joshua, Ustinov etc., then I'll be going off-topic.

Anyway, if you're desperate enough to discuss Luis Ortiz's ducking escapades at length, then create a separate thread.

And I'll contribute to it by simply copying & pasting my previous remarks submitted to other threads.

Going back on topic though, Luis Ortiz's handlers will likely accept the invitation to engage in talks about a potential Hrgovic fight, but that doesn't mean the Cuban will definitely be facing the Croatian... it's just the very first step of a very long road ahead.

What do you think Luis Ortiz would prefer to do?

a) Engage in a PBC PPV event against his fellow Haymon stablemate, Andy Ruiz Jr., which will be a lucrative (well paid) bout between two Spanish speaking fighters that are based in America, with the contest staged on US shores during a Mexican public holiday. The winner will be manoeuvred towards a title shot within the next 12 to 18 months.

b) Or will Luis Ortiz agree to engage in a high-risk low-reward bout against the anonymous Filip Hrgovic, which won’t guarantee the victor a title shot within the next 12 months.

How many people thinks the second option is the most likely, since most of us would expect Luis Ortiz to be defeated by Hrgovic and Ruiz Jr.? I'm guessing, not many.

Whoever Ortiz faces next, it’ll likely be the final outing of his career.

Kinda think that Ortiz dominates Ruiz, why would team Ruiz sacrifice him for this fight?

Is Ortiz vs Ruiz really such a highprofile megamoney fight?

Why do people that frequent this forum constantly embellish the claims of others?

Is this due to an adult literacy issue or is it mainly a translation issue, since their comprehension of the English language is rather minimal?

I’m not being derogatory when I say that either, but there’s an undeniable trend whereby people intentionally misrepresent your claims in order to make them easier to attack!

Anyway, no one said that Ortiz-Ruiz Jr. is a high-profile mega money fight!

It will be more lucrative than Ortiz-Hrgovic though.

If you sincerely feel that someone definitely claimed that "Ortiz-Ruiz Jr. is a high-profile mega money fight", then quote their actual words and I'll join you in decimating their argument.

But if you can't do this, or refuse to do it, then you'll need to do the right thing, by admitting that you either simply got it wrong or were intentionally lying as a desperately weak and juvenile attempt to make someone else "look bad".

I agree with Kiwi (and others?) you can't really blame him for taking more money and less legacy.
He has probably got one more big payday left.

And If he beat Ruiz he could still fight Hrgo or some other eliminator.

"Former heavyweight champion Ruiz Jr was the highest earner at $1 million, with opponent Chris Arreola getting $300,000."

Hell... isn't Charr vs Bryant a 1 million dollar fight that will never happen?

Team Ruiz isn't going to sacrifice Andy to Ortiz and the only way Ortiz takes a fight like that is if he is certain that he will beat Andy.

A Filip Hrgovic fight should get close to that 1 million dollar mark and if it doesn't then what's the point really?

Here's hoping that Luis Ortiz gets the Tyson Fury fight and a nice retirement paycheck, he has earned it.

And EO you can be right since it means so much to you.

On another note this 3 day deadline is an obvious badfaith move from the IBF, a meassure that likely would not hold up in court and very unsophisticated. I believe that the IBF is sort of the leading ranking organization but maybe I am wrong. The WBC is moving cruiserweight back down to 190 pounds and maybe one day it will move bridgerweight to 210 so who knows, perhaps the WBC isn't as trash as one believes.

The three-day deadline is only for Team Ortiz and Team Hrgovic to confirm their willingness to at least participate in talks.

That deadline definitely does not relate to both teams initiating and agreeing offers, coupled with signing contracts.
