Filip Hrgovic vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov?

There seems to be a lot of hype surrounding Filip Hrgovic, but I wonder what he’s done to deserve his reputation.

So that got me thinking, the Croatians’ record in the amateurs, the WSB and the pros is very similar to Arslanbek Makhmudov’s.

They even made their professional debut around the same date.

They’re also similar in terms of size and age.

Hrgovic is a couple years younger, with Makhmudov being heavier, but there are similarities.

A couple of things to note:

• In terms of common opponents, Arslanbek Makhmudov defeated fighters in the amateurs that beat Filip Hrgovic (Mihai Nistor and Magomed Omarov).

• And Arslanbek Makhmudov's victories over Jonathan Rice and Erkan Teper in the pro ranks both seem more superior than anyone Filip Hrgovic has beaten to-date.

• Arslanbek Makhmudov is facing Mariusz Wach in two weeks time, but Hrgovic hasn't got an opponent yet for his next outing.

No bias, I just wanted to remind people of important facts, since Makhmudov isn’t in the limelight as much as Hrgovic is, because most casuals would automatically jump to conclusions and favour the more "famous" fighter by default.

So just for a bit of fun, since these guys will probably never fight each other in real-life, who wins this one if the bout was made in the near future?

Rice was a relatively decent win for Mak, but considering fat and shot Teper as a big deal is outrageous. It was about as sh!tty scalp as Molina. Wach at this point is also questionable.

Both are unproven and being promoted not like they should have been. Head-to-head it's a hot matchup, a 50-50 one.

I see incredibly similar parallels between the careers of both guys.

I honestly feel that Makhmudov has fought less śhîttŷ guys than Hrgovic, but his opponents have been çráp nonetheless.

It’s simply a case of whose śhît has a less offensive odour!

The careers of both fighters have been terribly managed.

And both have the potential (if their career progression was handled correctly) to be genuine top-five world-rated talents.

But unfortunately, they’ve both fought appallingly dire opponents and neither man is ready to face the top dogs of the heavyweight division yet, without fighting a couple of Chisora-esque gatekeepers beforehand.

Ultimately, Makhmudov is 32, and Hrgovic still has 3 more years before he's 32. So, if you're trying to gauge their careers in the long run, Hrgovic may significantly surpass Makhmudov. As of right now, Hrgovic has beaten Mansour, Molina, and KJ; Makhmudov has beaten Teper, Carman, Peter, and Rice. But, when Makhmudov was 29, his best pro wins were Jason Bergman, Emilio Zarate, and Andrew Satterfield.

You already know that Hughie Fury has fought much better opposition than Hrgovic or Makhmudov has faced.

Hrgovic punch are more straight and direct than Makhmudov but the lion hit heavier and harder.
And from what i've seen Hrgovic have a tendancy to hit behind the head i don't know if he do that intentionally.I think it's a 50/50 fight, but because i'm from Montreal canada i'm going with the lion.

I'm just bumping this thread, to gauge whether people's opinions have changed based on Hrgovic's and Makhmudov's most recent performances.

Never rated Hrg very high. Loving Big Mak. So no, my opinion hasn't changed.

Mak would really struggle in the pros.
His reputation is such that without big money to pay his opponents, no one on the way up will want to take the chance.
And as for Hrg, Mak would make easy work of him.

I wouldn't say so. By age 24, Hrgovic racked-up 14 wins of 3 stars or better in the amateurs. By age 27, Makhmudov racked-up 5 such wins. As an amateur, Hrgovic has wins over 4 current top 50 professionals (Parker, Yoka, Kuzmin, Demirezen). Makhmudov has 0.

I don't necessarily think Makhmudov is a stiff, though. He seems to have very serious power. But he's already older than 16 of the fighters who are ranked higher than him. He'll be lucky if he even receives his first world title shot before he's 36. And, by then, he'll probably be hitting the end of his prime and lose that fight.

Hrgovic is at least near the top of the 28 to 31-year-old age group that may inherit some belts after Fury / Joshua / Usyk / Wilder are gone.
