Chuck Wepner vs. Mitch Green
Do we have a win now for Mitch "Blood" Green?
Re: Chuck Wepner vs. Mitch Green
Indeed we do .
Re: Chuck Wepner vs. Mitch Green
Blood Green busted Wepner up behind his jabs and combinations to either wins by decision or late round cut eye stoppage.

Re: Chuck Wepner vs. Mitch Green
Chuck is tough, strong, and brave, but too darn slow.
Mitch Greene could get the tko , if he is anxious to go home, or just opt to cruise along to a fairly decisive decision victory.
Greene went the distance with a Prime Mike Tyson, using his speed, reflexes,And obvious resilience and tenacity.
Wepner collapsed in the 15th against a near shot Ali. He would've gotten tko'd in the 4th or 5th by the Ali of 1970-1972.
Wepner would've gotten annihilated by a prime Tyson, somewhere between rounds 1 and 3.
Mitch Greene was a,what's the word..? Commsuwhet boxer stylist..?!
A fundamental survivalist safety first boxer stylist, with a rough tough edge, obviously.
That's why I think that likely, he would win by decision using a poor man's Larry Holmes type of style.
The main question though, could the Bayonne bleeder land one of those flukey wonky body shot knockdown blows..?![[icon_knockout.gif] :KO:](./images/smilies/icon_knockout.gif)

mitch lost every round vs tyson, was a total survival job, not really indicative that he'd beat wepner at all. that said though this is one he could win, by close decision

I disagree that this was a "total" survival job. In large part, yes -- but not total. I always enjoy re-watching those several spurts of awesome combinations where "Blood" really went for it. Reminiscent of the Reggie Gross fight, but not as prolonged, somewhat more effective (he connected a bit) and of course, he didn't get dropped or KO'd once he emptied the clip. I'd say Bonecrusher Smith's performance vs. Tyson was more "totally" survival oriented than Mitch Green's.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑15 Jan 2022, 20:38 mitch lost every round vs tyson, was a total survival job, not really indicative that he'd beat wepner at all. that said though this is one he could win, by close decision
It's just that Green was incredibly durable. And this is where it gets interesting vs. Wepner, who also demonstrated great determination and tenacity vs. Ali. Hard to imagine no cuts on Wepner in this fight, but as Sugar Ray Leonard commented at ringside during Tyson vs. Green, for all of Green's hand speed, "he doesn't pronate his punches." That explains the lack of power, and may account for less tendency to open up cuts.
Btw, vs. Tyson, Mitch Green actually won one round on two of the judges' scorecards, and two rounds on the third.

Yes, TKO in the 11th.
