Standings/Rules; 2022 Fight Picks Contest -NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!

Post by ironbeard »

Thanks to Fightnight Scores for his excellent work as Chief Intelligence Officer (CIO), building and maintaining the spreadsheet for the 2022 Fight Picks Competition!!!

Please refer to Fightnight Scores spreadsheet(s) in this and other threads for comprehensive overall, monthly, and weekly results and standings.

Remember that each month is a stand alone competition rewarding the top 3 players for the month bonus points.

February 19 fight picks will be posted soon.

I project that there will likely be an average of 8 fight picks a month with a potential score of an average of 95 points per month, not including 15 point champion of the month bonuses. That is a projected point potential of 1,320. Even if you missed an entire month you would have the potential of scoring 1,210 points.

If you missed this week, don’t let that discourage you, there are likely between 90 and 100 fight picks to go this year and 12 monthly champions to crown, not to mention the inaugural grand champion at the end of 2022.

The next set of picks will be posted within days. Thanks to all participants in our humble effort to have a little fun!

Rules, etc (I have added a couple of things)

I will choose fights I want to include in the contest each week.

People are invited to choose:

1. Winner = 5 points
2. Effective January 8, 2022; Draw = 20 points
2. Method of victory: decision or stoppage = 5 points
3. Round of stoppage = 5 points

Example 1; correct winner and wrong method = 5 points.

Example 2; Effective January 8, 2022; correct prediction of draw = 20 points.

Example 3; correct winner and correct method (wrong round if stoppage) = 10 points.

Example 4; correct winner + correct stoppage prediction + correct round of stoppage prediction = 15 points.

Each month is treated as an individual contest. The top three competitors for the month receive bonuses as follows:

1st place = 15 point bonus
2nd place = 10 point bonus
3rd place = 5 point bonus

If two participants tie for 1st place in any month, they will split the 1st and 2nd place points (12.5 points each).

If three or more participants tie for 1st place in any month, they will split the sum of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place bonus points (30).

Same method applies for ties for 2nd or 3rd in any month.

All contestants start at 0 at the beginning of each month. Points from individual months are added together to determine the Champion at the end of 2022.

If two or more contestants tie for the 2022 Grand Championship, the tie will be broken as follows.

#1 tiebreaker = total correct picks for the year.
#2 tiebreaker = total correct method of victory picks.
#3 tiebreaker = total correct round of stoppage picks.

Deadline for picks is 9am Pacific Time on the day of the first fight that week unless a different deadline is specified in that week’s thread.

Picks should not be posted until the contestant is certain they are final. However, players may edit original pick post prior to the week’s deadline. The rules committee discourages pick changes, and reserves the right to eliminate that option if it is abused.

(Rules may be amended/evolved by ironbeard. Any suggestions are welcomed by PM or on this thread)

Thanks to Fightnight Scores for his efforts, including the spreadsheet work.

I've taken the liberty to set up a spreadsheet, cleared with Iron to post it :D

As well as weekly picks and points tally, I've also added some win/loss records for each pick.
Each week I will add the fight odds into the sheet and calculate winning from a £10 for each pick up to 3 bets.

£10 for the fight winner
£10 for the method
If a stoppage was chosen £10 also placed on the round selected.

Should make for a bit of extra interest.

Checkout the first week standings. Be sure to see Fightnight Scores spreadsheet giving pertinent details.

And don’t miss the week 2 thread with a new pick to make and other details.

Btw, I am going to choose a fight periodically as a 2X or 3X fight. IOW, the normal point totals will be multiplied. Those will be selected big fights that are particularly competitive.

I will keep them few and a distance between; likely no more than one per month (2 under rare and exciting circumstances).

We do need to keep track of new participants coming in, and there will be those missing weeks, then returning, I assume.

If any of this is too labor intensive let me know. I can back off the multipliers. I can also do it all the caveman way that I had planned for if you need to bow out.

Thanks again, Fightnight Scores.

Yeah I have set things up so that it's easy enough if players dip in and out.
Again the multiplier rounds will be easy enough to implement when the time comes. :TU:

Standings have been updated in the topic post.

Nunez gets the stoppage in the 10th!

Watch for the January week 3 picks thread in the next few days. Fightnight Scores will update the standings spreadsheet in the next couple of days.

Great ShoBox last night. Three really decent fights between legit undefeated prospects. Catch it if you get the chance.

Spreadsheet has been updated.

oogiebe romps into the lead on his own on 60 points.
gregregegg, Cent0089, DrDuke, armageto all following up in joint 2nd with 55 points.

Also some decent money would have been made had we all had a flutter (Unfortunately I didn't back my picks! :brick: )
