I agree too. But I’d say the same for Wilder (and that’s being generous)
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Whyte doesn't have that equalizer that wilder has (and that's all he has)Frostieballs wrote: ↑18 Jan 2022, 19:23I agree too. But I’d say the same for Wilder (and that’s being generous)

Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
and there's another quote
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Whyte has to go all out from the first bell.
He isn't going to out box or out last a fit Fury, so he may as well go for it.
If he is tentative, then Fury will catch him and I'm not confident on Whyte's punch resistance.
Even if Fury comes in soft around the middle, Whyte still has to go for it.

Agreed mate. But I’d say even with the equaliser, he wouldn’t have progressed beyond Euro level in a different era.

I suspect Wilder makes for quite a poor yard stick, as he’s an especially poor fighter. Fury’s lack of professional prep and weight gain is a negative factor. I’d think Whyte could perhaps beaten the version of Fury in Fury-Wilder 3. If a worse version of Fury turns up he will be in trouble.
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Yes, it's always the way. I have Ring magazines from the 1970s telling us how awful the era was and how a fringe contender from the 1950s would go through the division like a hot knife through butter.
This might just be the greatest ever era for British HWs.

Does David Price get included in this era of greatness? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a heavyweight look so vulnerable.
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Well if you consider Price to be the 10th best HW of the era (just a guess) then he likely matches up well with the 10th best in the 80s, for example. Fury, Joshua, Joyce, Haye, Dubois, Whyte, Chisora would go through the domestic and European HWs of the 1970s, 80s, 90s, like an undercooked chicken sandwich.

It’s a bit of a blanket statement. Dubois is really just a stalled fighter, and will he ever actually be any good? There’s no real definite answer to say Whyte and Chisora are any better than forgotten fighters like Horace Notice.Ezzard wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022, 06:53 Well if you consider Price to be the 10th best HW of the era (just a guess) then he likely matches up well with the 10th best in the 80s, for example. See it as a 50-50. Besides Mason was one of the better HWs of his era. Dubois doesn't make the top 5 right now.
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Notice was solid for sure. Local to me at the time. I saw him beat Kilimanjaro, that's the fighter not the mountain, at Dudley Town Hall. But Whyte beat Rivas, Parker, Chisora, Povetkin, Helenius... Horace never got into the ring with anyone close to that level. I'm not putting Horace down. I was, and am, a fan. But he was unlucky and had to retire before he could step up to those heights. Whyte has beaten those men. Bruno was the best of the 80s and he wouldn't beat half of those fighters.polecateddy wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022, 06:59It’s a bit of a blanket statement. Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Im quite a realist with Bruno, but at the stages Whyte faced those fighters, I think Bruno beats Whyte’s hit list of Rivas, Parker, Chisora, Povetkin, Helenius. If maybe struggling and hanging on at times if they went long.Ezzard wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022, 07:18Notice was solid for sure. Local to me at the time. Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Once Frank got past the halfway stage with any world class fighter he was in serious trouble. He held on to beat the limited but tough McCall. I see no chance of him beating Parker or Rivas. Old Povetkin maybe. But maybe not. Chisora if he's still there could do it, not because he was better than Frank but because he's tough, durable and still swinging late on. Helenius he beats.

That’s quite over the top. Rivas is basically just a bodybuilder tough guy.Ezzard wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022, 08:07 Once Frank got past the halfway stage with any world class fighter he was in serious trouble. Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Whyte is never going to outbox him ,, , he's also never going to out manouvere him by rushing in ,,, Think the only game plan that might work , is pressure , pressure and more pressure ,, , but smart how he does it , absolutly no chasing or lunging , just take centre ring and slowly herd him with a high guard ,, when in range let them go , hit the arms and tire them hoping for the hail mary shot ,,, when Tysion leans in and over don't fight it he's too big , just lean in hold himself and let the ref split it , wash and repeat
Probably will not work , but can't think of any other way he can do it ,, Tyson might be suprised on Whytes actual physical strenght , and if he is , it works in Dillans favor ,,, At first i thought this was a waste of a fight date , tyson far too good , now i'm leaning towards i want to see it ,,, because if Dillan can land i think he can hurt Tyson , ,,, but has others would say , If my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle

Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
you mean to say he was 'Euro level', which he was, IE exactly the level of fighter you said DD would comfortably beat (or misbegotten words to that effect).
he was absolutely good enough to massacre the tactically-inept Dubois.
jeez, Big Joe J can't punch half as hard as Mason and he had Dubois's face broken.
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
What I was trying to say was that this era is far better than the 1980s. And it is. Mason was the 2nd or 3rd best HW in that era. So if we matched him with say Joshua, Haye or Joyce...

Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
Mason was strong but pretty much a can crusher . a 6 foot tall crude, slow, plodding poor mans bruno. so many meaningless, padded fights on his record. granted, he did get a come from behind stoppage over ty biggs.
Re: Make A Tactical Case For Whyte To Beat Fury.
He's a heavyweight and a big lump so he can always do it - although it is very hard to see how he does. He's not particularly quick and he's not especially subtle.
I would say he needs to live up to his nickname. I didn't like Fury's reaction at times to the open round of the trilogy fight. Take it too his body and see if he likes it.
Other than that, I can only see maybe counter like Wilder landed as Fury comes in a bit reckless.
Fury would need to be a bit more weary of Whyte than he was Wilder - yes Wilder has more power, but Whyte has shown to be dangerous on the back foot and seemingly hurt. If I was Fury I would be back to the cautious Fury and wait for Whyte to start dropping his guard and gas (which he does still).
