Eddie Hearn launches new boxing club at the Brentwood Centre
Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport, officially launched a new boxing club, Brentwood Central ABC at the Brentwood Centre on January 18.
Eddie watched the children train whilst giving them words of encouragement, joined them in a plank challenge and even Facetimed boxer Anthony Joshua so the children could show him their boxing moves.
Florin Nicorici, Founder of Brentwood Central ABC said: “It’s always been my dream to open a boxing club for kids who really need it, ever since I was a child and boxed in Romania. The sport has opened me up to so many opportunities and I hope this club will do the same for young people in the area.
“My aim is to make boxing accessible for everyone no matter their background. I hope it will encourage local teens to stay off the streets and do something productive with their time. I have big dreams and I’m hoping we can lead some of them to great success, and who knows, even the Olympics!”
Brentwood Council leader, Councillor Chris Hossack, added: “It’s not often a council gets a chance to make someone’s dreams come true, so I’m pleased we were able to support Brentwood Central Boxing Club establish themselves in the Brentwood Centre with the help of Everyone Active.
“Florin is dedicated to making boxing accessible for all and has high hopes that one of the club’s young people will represent England in the sport in the future. Thanks to Eddie Hearn for taking the time to not only open the club but encourage the children whilst they were training – I’m sure it’s a day they will never forget”.
Shaun Beagle, Area Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “Here at Everyone Active, we are passionate about engaging people from all ages and backgrounds in physical activity and strive to provide fair and equal opportunities to all, so we’re proud to work in partnership with the boxing club to enable them to offer sessions at an affordable price.
“These classes are great for those who are looking to get serious about boxing and have hopes to compete, or for those who are just looking for a new hobby and want a bit of fun whilst keeping active.”
The Brentwood Centre has been managed by Everyone Active on behalf of Brentwood Borough Council since last year. For more information on the sports and activities available please visit www.everyoneactive.com

Have those in congratulatory mood actually read the full article?
Fair play, Eddie turned up for some ribbon cutting PR but nowhere does it say that he or Matchroom have invested hard cash in this new club or have any other involvement?

I think you are right. My reading from this is that he was invited for the ribbon cutting. He ‘launched it’ in the same way a celebrity launches a new supermarket. Don’t think matchroom have funded it or have any involvement in it.Tarquin Tarpaulin IV wrote: ↑21 Jan 2022, 20:16 Have those in congratulatory mood actually read the full article?

Who knows. Anyone that brings positive attention to amateur boxing is doing a good thing by me. Matchroom have gifted to several amateur clubs in recent years so it wouldn’t surprise me if they contributed here - particularly given it’s local to them.gerryd77 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 05:45I think you are right. The kids there must have been buzzing to get a FaceTime from AJ.

I'm not an Eddie or Matchroom hater and don't wish to turn a positive into a negative, but a bit of perspective on headlines such as this doesn't go amiss.maverick23 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 06:39Who knows. The Brentwood Centre is the only place locally that can and does host pro boxing shows and it wouldn't be great PR if Eddie didn't show up for the opening being as it is a mile up the road from MR headquarters.
Out of interest which amateur clubs has Matchroom gifted to?

I can’t remember the names of any recent ones but I know they gave a lump sum to Golden Gloves ABC in Liverpool as I was born in the same area of the city. Pretty sure it stopped them from going bust. Would have been around 2015/2016.Tarquin Tarpaulin IV wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 08:10I'm not an Eddie or Matchroom hater and don't wish to turn a positive into a negative, but a bit of perspective on headlines such as this doesn't go amiss.maverick23 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 06:39Who knows. If Eddie hadn’t gone to it the opening no one (apart from those actually opening it) would have cared and it wouldn’t have generated much PR at all. The kids probably wouldn’t care much about it (apart from being the meme guy) but they’d have loved having AJ talk to them I would have thought.

Pretty sure Matchroom donated to Dale Youth after the terrible tragedy at Grenfell where they had their gym .
