Ryan Garcia vs. Tevin Farmer - April 2, 2022?
Ryan Garcia vs. Tevin Farmer rumored for April 2 in Las Vegas
Former IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer is rumored to be the comeback opponent for Ryan Garcia on April 2nd on DAZN in Las Vegas.
This will be a comeback for not only King Ry (21-0, 18 KOs) but also the 31-year-old Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs), who hasn’t fought in two years since his 12 round unanimous decision defeat against Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz Jr. in January 2020.
For some boxing fans, it’ll be a letdown if Farmer is Ryan Garcia’s next opponent because not only is he NOT a lightweight, but he’s not fought in two years since his loss to Jojo Diaz.
Tevin Farmer excited about ring return
Farmer isn’t a great choice but given that Ryan is coming back from a mental health episode, injuries a great deal of incisiveness, it’s not a bad choice.
“I’m excited to get back in the ring. This going to be fun. If you know you know,” said Farmer on Twitter on Wednesday.
The only thing you got to worry about now is whether the Golden Boy promoted Garcia will make it through training camp without pulling out of the fight for an injury or something else.
Ryan’s track record for making it to fights was horrible last year, and the way he kept talking up fights with different elite-level fighters, it appeared that he was directionless.
At times, Ryan seems advanced as a fighter, but when it comes to making decisions, he seems scattered and child-like. His ability to stick with his choices was lacking last year, and it’s probable that issue will continue.
Farmer lacks power
Moreover, Farmer lacks punching power, and he’s going to have problems with the power and size of the 5’10” Ryan in this fight.
Farmer may have let the cat out of the bag on Wednesday in hinting on social media that he’ll be Ryan’s next opponent.
Farmer has the boxing skills to give Ryan a lot of trouble if he’s standing straight up like he was in his fight with Luke Campbell.
Ryan was dropped hard by Campbell in the second round of that fight, and that guy can’t punch. He took advantage of Ryan’s stork-like fighting style, which resembles one of the skinny-legged birds of the wetlands. Ryan’s stance is similar to a Great blue heron bird.
With Ryan’s power, speed, size, and youth advantage, he should beat Farmer. Tevin has fought at 126 and 130 during his career, and he wasn’t known for his power in either of those weight classes.
In coming up to 135, you got to imagine that Farmer’s power won’t be enough to keep Ryan off him, which is obviously why he’s being picked out for the fight.
Farmer’s best wins:
• Guillaume Frenois
• Jono Carroll
• Francisco Fonseca
• James Tennyson
• Daulis Prescott
• Ivan Redkach

Good comeback test for Garcia. Farmer is crafty. I will watch it on DAZN.

Farmer is a tough out for Ryan Garcia. Slick, elusive, crafty veteran. I think Ry will stick him at some point.
I forgot that Farmer beat Jono. Man that’s a good win.

Farmer has a couple of nice wins on his resume, Examples: easy decision wins over Ivan Redkach and Billy Dib.
In his last outing (one year ago) Farmer held his own against Jojo Diaz. So the long rest break could either serve to help or hurt Tevin. We will hopefully see. I will tell you this .... If Ryan Garcia beats up Tevin Farmer, I will be impressed .

Personally I'll believe it when I see it as far as RG actually showing up.

He had some pretty serious hand issues that many speculated were partially the cause of his defeat in the JoJo fight. I don’t know if it was ever confirmed. The long layoff should help with any hand problems. Floyd said his long layoff helped him have such a productive end to his career. Might not have held up if his hands kept hurting.Las Vegas boxing guy wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 10:35Farmer has a couple of nice wins on his resume, Examples: easy decision wins over Ivan Redkach and Billy Dib.

Announcements on announcements, it is good if it happens despite Tevin being more than two years out.

Wow, horrific stylistic matchup and no reason for this fight outside of props from the forum fans. Terrible management decision here.
Re: Ryan Garcia vs. Tevin Farmer - April 2, 2022?
A decent opponent to be handled after the long and hard lay-off caused by the severe instagram depression.

By who? Farmer's or Garcia's? Didn't Farmer (130 pounder) recently get beat by the guy Haney beat? Seems like a better matchup than Kombosis, who Garcia wanted.

garcia needs to actually get in the ring again, all his sheeyat talk just looks goofy when he's still on leave
i think jojo would be a good fight for garcia

Kambosis is honestly the better matchup, not as a come-back fight, though. Garcia shouldn't be fighting Farmer as a comeback. It's epically dumb. Farmer is not afraid to run around like Rigondeaux and barely eke out a win. The guy is crazy elusive if he's on game, and I don't think Garcia knows how to control the ring well yet.
Re: Ryan Garcia vs. Tevin Farmer - April 2, 2022?
I suppose you are right about the style being bad for him. Props to him for doing it if it happens. Would RG vs Pitbull Cruz be better style-wise at least? Farmer has been out for a couple years, and moving up in weight, so I really doubt he will have anything to bother Garcia, other than his movement.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑23 Jan 2022, 21:13Kambosis is honestly the better matchup, not as a come-back fight, though. Good shout out about Cruz. Cruz is high risk because he does have power, but he's also kind of made for a guy like Garcia. Come-forward, straight lines, short reach, and moderate athleticism. I have a feeling it'll look like Zlaticanin/Mikey. Still, I think a comeback fight would be someone on the level of an old Diego Magdaleno. An old vet that can go rounds, exciting style, little power, but can also be taken out.Bandog wrote: ↑24 Jan 2022, 10:19I suppose you are right about the style being bad for him. Is he delusional? What name could Farmer possess? Several fights of his where he was boo'd out of being a main eventer. Dude has like no fans. Anyways, I think it would be smart for Ryan's management to pick someone else. Stupid fight to take. The dude brings zero fans, and unless Ryan bombs him out in less than 5, he'll look horrible. Lose, lose situation, and honestly, it'll do nothing to elevate him. As I said, fight someone that at least will stand and fight, not run around the ring.

ryan for me is pretentiously the pound 4 pound fighter of them weights . dont like seeing the outside ring stuff taking his eye of the prize

If RG wins and looks vulnerable that makes future fights easier to make right?
Re: Ryan Garcia vs. Tevin Farmer - April 2, 2022?
Not at all. Dude is the most marketable guy at 135, and everyone wants to fight him. It's not like he didn't look vulnerable against Campbell anyways.Perseus wrote: ↑28 Jan 2022, 22:19Mexi-Box wrote: ↑28 Jan 2022, 21:29Is he delusional? What name could Farmer possess?
