I can go back to 1975 on the better flyweights and associated weights , eye test wise he is the best I have ever seen and record wise he’s insane.

I could make them all, anyone with any prominence ever, 105-115, 1970- , and not a one of them would i start as even slightly more than fractionally favoured over him.

(EG) People or at least some revere Ricardo Lopez, honestly I think Gonzalez kicks his ass all round the fkin ring at light-fly on a H2H, and his record is so much better it’s not even funny.

And Lopez is a consensus ATG around those weights

Gonzalez’s is a greatness that we seldom see. He may be better than Arguello. I honestly don’t know if I wouldn’t have him above EG Chavez. He’s that level.

Amongst boxing fans there is this misguided need for great champions. This has lead to some very bad things with unworthy fighters being hyped to the skies and beyond for no reason. This chocolatito fellow falls into that category. There is a reason why he never became one of boxings most popular fighters.

Looking at this Ricardo Lopez guy he had a somewhat crowdpleasing style but one has to question the opposition that he faced. Woulf Chocolatito have beaten him? Hard to say, it probably wouldn't have been much of a fight however, one would likely have dominated the other, going with my gutt I would pick Ricardo.

- You moonlighting as Doogie over at Ring in your off hours

I like Choco just fine, more so for his class and demeanor, but his competition is light, 600 compared to 2000 LW, 1600 Welter, and 1200 Hvy. While it's more competitive than Women's boxing, barely 100+ in superfly, it's hard to think he should be near the p4p #1 that Doogie made him. I tend to think it was politically correct in that moment to recognize little fellas for the first time, but no, not in the same boxing class as Arguello other than demeanor and class.

When he fought Rungvasai, it was easy for me to see the stylistic derailments in advance, so kudos to Choco for mounting a comeback after personal and boxing setbacks. Need more Chocos in boxing and the world, not less. Shame Estrada who has always been even more overrated had to catch the Corona, but I am really jazzed to see Julio Cesar stepping up, a hugely better fight. You nailed Choco style perfectly, and though much to be said about such a busy style, for me it's like shaking up a crystal of snow that covers up what's actually happening in those tyny spaces.

Julio Cesar launches hard super fast shots from the floor that have almost an instantaneous effect, and he's even more teensy than Choco who has some big size in this bout. The contrasts could force Choco out of his one pace style for a Fight of the Year contender. I generally don't watch the little fellas, but I'll be there for this one.
