Back To Back Defeats To The Same Opponent

Post by 595179 »

Some people in the media are completely writing off Anthony Joshua if he loses the rematch to Usyk, I think he does lose to Usyk, but that is far from the end of the road. AJ will come back against lesser opponents, knock them out and look to get back to the top.

My question for you BoxRec Boxing Historians is....

Which great fighters have suffered back to back defeats against the same opponent and gone on to achieve great things?

Shane Mosley comes to mind for me and to a certain extent, Floyd Patterson.

Any others?

Bernard Hopkins

Probably didn't "achieve great things" but Arturo Gatti did some of his best work after losing two straight to Ivan Robinson.

Was gonna say Roy Jones, against Tarver, but he had a KO loss against Glen Johnson in between.

595179- seems to be some confusion.
If Fighter A loses to Fighter B, beat someone else, then loses to fighter B again, then goes on to achieve great things, does that count?
i.e. Archie Moore losing to Ezzard Charles.

Or does it literally have to be two fights in a row?

Two fights in a row Mr Alp, hence the back to back in the title. :TU:

That is not an accomplishment.

He got that title shot because he is Mike Tyson.
The Mike Tyson of world wide fame.
He was that Mike Tyson long before he lost two in a row to Holyfield.

What did he accomplish after losing two in a row to Holyfield?

The great Muhammad Ali lost twice in a row to Ken Norton in my view and achieved great things when he beat the great George Foreman.

To me, Norton won the 3 fights with The Greatest.
