I mean of course Sam Baroudi.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:in terms of accomplishments, marciano far exceeds tunney in the heavyweight division.
ill still take the june 1954 charles over tunney.
i believe walcott was the better heavyweight than charles. the reason why walcott lost the first two charles fights is because he didnt fight aggresive like he did in the 3rd and 4th charles fights.
In fact, there is some plausibility to the claim that ever since killing Joe Baksi in the ring in 1948
u dont know shit about boxing. everyone knows charles killed sam baroudi, not joe baksi. do u even know who joe baksi is
Baksi was a fringe heavyweight contender in the late 1940s. He also fought Charles in 48 but didn't die as a consequence.

Tunney by looooooopsided UD.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:marciano would knockout tunney. a clasical boxer like tunney will have loads of trouble with a swarmer slugger like marciano. dont even compare marciano to that far past his prime very rusty jack dempsey of 1927
the peak 1951 rocky marciano knocks out tunney

You are completely right about weight and I wish we could go back to those days. Lennox Lewis was about as perfect of an example as you could name. Lewis looked his best physically in the 220s before his loss to McCall. Shannon Briggs, the 270lb behemoth that he is today, weighed under 210 for for nine of his first ten pro fights.Decagon wrote:That was just the style of the day. If Lennox Lewis had been fighting in the 1950s or 1960s, he would've entered the ring at 215 or 220. Holyfield? 190. Rahman? 210. There was a much stronger emphasis on aerobic training, rather than anaerobic training. I actually think that Liston would have been even more threatening if he'd fought in the 1990s, using explosive weight training and steroids. That Liston, which would have weighed 230 pounds, would destroy a prime Tyson, Marciano or Dempsey. I'm not too much of a fan of modern training methods, but Liston had the perfect style to take advantage of them. You can't outwork someone whose jab is twice as strong as your power punches.
Its a sad state of affairs that I have to look toward the cruiserweight division to watch my favorite sized puglists duke it out. 200lbs is the perfect weight to put on a great fight. Just enough weight for a truly devastating punch and light enough to carry a brisk pace.
Well thats your opinion, but look at the trouble Rocky had with WALCOTT and Tunney was a faster more elusive boxer than Walcott and also considerably younger. Tunney is very underrated, people talk about Charles, whom I also admire, but Tunney was faster and much tougher than he is given credit for... Rocky would have a hard time pinning down Tunney.... I see Gene outboxing him. Tunney is also an underrated puncher and had the sharpness in his punch to keep Rockys respect in exchanges....BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:marciano would knockout tunney. a clasical boxer like tunney will have loads of trouble with a swarmer slugger like marciano. dont even compare marciano to that far past his prime very rusty jack dempsey of 1927

The same could be said of Tommy Burns. At 5'7" he had unusually long arms that were HW-like, when Burns no more than weighed 165-175 pounds. I think Burns reach was like 75". Myself, I am much shorter than even Rocky Marciano, and have a 72" reach, and he had a 67" reach.sonny liston was a freak of nature. he was only 6'0 204-212lb at his peak, yet he had dimensions of a "superheavyweight". he had 84" reach, 15" fist for man listons size this is unheard of!
So, in terms of being a freak of nature, I'd say Tommy Burns fits the bill just as much as Liston does.
Sonny just had big hands, to call him a freak of nature is labouring the point somewhat. What about Joe Frazier, people dont really take notice about how huge he was in build for his height, even when 205... same with Tyson, who had/has a 18inch neck... a lot of these fighters have some physical dimentions which are unusual... Barry Mcguigan has huge hands, I dont know their measurement but they look like the hands of a heavyweight.....

liston defintley had a 84" reach, checkout how long listons arms look on film. he could be on one side of the ring and his opponent is in the middle of the ring and when he jabs he still connects. checkout the bert whitehurst fight 1958, listons reach is incredible.
liston had a longer reach than williams, the commentator made a mistake
