At what cost to British boxing and the Matchroom brand going forward though ?

Isn't the non UK side of things going ok ? Seems like he's other fish to fry at the moment .

Is it? I know he keeps mentioning Australia and stadiums. Kamboso isn't that good.

Boxing a very small cog in the Matchroom brand , soon as the cash cow packs it in (Joshua ) Eddie will be done , just look at the UK now all the top prospects turning over are signing for all other promotors/ management companies this isn’t a coincidence.

The Aussies get behind their fighters massively. Kambosos would have gone over big time with them after the Lopez fight so he could probably sell some big numbers. Whether it’s 25,000 or 70,000 I’ve no idea but I’m sure it’ll do well.

It’s hard to tell. Eddie will always big up the numbers. The difference with DAZN though is that their main focus will be worldwide subscribers. Having small pockets of 10,000/20,000 in lots of smaller random countries that just get the boxing will offset the big costs they’ll be having for these shows.

No news on DAZN buying BT sport but in Germany DAZN have no doubled their price to 29.95 Euros a month so that is some indication of what they'll be charging here if they got BT and their football coverage

Interesting. I’d hope they don’t get that high in the U.K. but I could definitely see £20 if they get BT Sport.

Looks like a stalemate now in the negotiations and if DAZN were going to buy BT the deal would have been done ? BT worried about losing Broadband subscribers with no BT sport and DAZN think they'll lose subscribers if people pay full whack for BT.
I thought DAZN were going to blow the competition out of the water but now they're nit picking over a deal. Could end up being a bad move for Eddie if DAZN doesn't expand onto other sports and get a channel to watch on.

A deal like this will take a while to sort. The nitpicking will be worth 10s of millions so they’ll want to do it properly.

Agree though that if DAZN don’t widen their U.K. sport portfolio then it’ll have been a mistake for Eddie.

eddie is financially invested in dazn, the purchase is happening, BT are talking Rights with the Prem, so we’re in the home straight

Big development from the Q3 BT report yesterday.

BT are currently in exclusive discussions with Discovery on a JV. DAZN out of the loop.

Wow.

Good news for the handful of people who don't subscribe to BT or Sky, and thus can continue to get their Matchroom/Golden Boy/UEFA Women's Champion League fix for £7.99 for the foreseeable.

Yeah - I saw that too. Interesting. I’ll be happy either way as I pay for BT Sport and DAZN but don’t get Eurosport so I guess that’ll either be included within the BT package if the deal happens.

I don’t quite get it from BT’s point of view though as initially it was a case they wanted to get rid to focus on, and bring some cash in for, their core business.

There may be a chance that DAZN could buy some of the rights from BT (like premier league or the champions league or even something like UFC) before a deal with Discovery.

So they sell their biggest assets first?

I'm fairly sure BT know what they're doing. And nope, Discovery aren't buying BT for the National League or Boxing!

Difficult to see where DAZN go in the UK now. Really bad week for Matchroom too.

Depends what’s offered I guess. DAZN need some bigger customer drivers than just the boxing/women’s champions league and may well be willing to pay well over the odds for something.

Yeah - this is bad news for Matchroom. DAZN need something more to drive subscribers but the quotes I’ve seen from them today were that essentially that BT were asking for too much. Perhaps that’s why it’s a JV with Discovery rather than an actual sale.

They’ll either have to wait for rights to become available to bid for or buy rights from someone at a premium which is looking increasingly unlikely.

It’s not a concern for the few U.K. subscribers because the shows are good. But how does Eddie build a U.K. star on a platform that only boxing hardcores and womens champions league fans subscribe to? It’s impossible really. They’re doing fairly well to sell the volumes of tickets they are to be honest but it won’t be long before fighters see the exposure that Sky are providing and look to jump ship.

Frazer Clarke said it well. It used to be an easy decision - try and get signed by Eddie and Sky - the best U.K. promoter and best U.K. platform. Now it’s a much harder decision although Sky have really upped their game whilst Eddie is doing what he’s always done.

Boxxer have the SKY cross platform to hype up their cards , that's how you build a star up. When you're on an app charging 8 quid a month how do you build stars ?
You can put on all the cards in the world but if people don't know who is fighting and when the fights are on then how do you pull in subscribers ?

dazn is a long term protect, they’ll win the footy rights in 2025, and then matchroom will bring the darts over too, streaming and OTT are the future, it brings cost efficiencies
