Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
Press Release
Probellum announced the promotional signing of Welsh middleweight Liam Williams (23-4-1, 18 knockouts) despite William's loss this weekend to Chris Eubank Jr. in Cardiff on Saturday evening, battling from four knockdowns to reach the final bell. The 29 year-old also challenged for world honors, losing to Demtrius Andrade in 2021, and has held the British and Commonwealth titles during his career. “I’m thrilled to be signing with Probellum. They have already proven themselves to be a powerhouse in the sport and this move will open up some fantastic opportunities for me,” said Williams. The result against Eubank was obviously disappointing but sometimes that happens in boxing and I am confident that with Probellum by my side I’ll be given lots of new opportunities to be back winning again and I’m already focused on returning to the ring later this year.”
“We are proud to welcome another world-ranked star to our ranks by announcing the signing of Liam Williams,” added Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum. “Liam showed unbelievable resilience, skill and determination against Eubank to get back into the contest and his huge power, coupled with a fierce desire to succeed, makes him one of the most exciting middleweights on the planet.
“We know that he will win many times again and the fact his last 13 victories have all come via knockout is a great example of why he is so popular with fight fans. He has been proudly flying the flag for Wales throughout his career, and he has a fantastically loyal fanbase behind him.
“It’s traits such as these which are instrumental in Probellum’s decision making when it comes to signing new fighters, and we look forward to achieving great success together in the future.”

Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
I can believe that. Obviously by man on the street standards he was in great shape but he did have quite a bit more flesh around the middle and back than usual. You could best see his belly during the open workout and on fight night his back. There was fat hanging over the back of his shorts ( all relative compared with usual, I'm not saying he was like Butterbean).
...and he got dropped by a jab.

Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
Wait, he missed the weight by 14lbs?!?
Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
No, he lost 15lbs in the 24 hours up to the weighin (came in a pound under).
I mean, fornicating hell. No wonder his punch resistance was gone. A hell of an effort considering, and makes me wonder even more about what Santa really proved in there.

Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
In hindsight, I remember thinking at the time that Williams had no chance of being properly prepared after he had to postpone first time around. I’d actually forgotten that when watching the fight on Saturday, but seems obvious now.

I can’t see Super middleweight going well for him at all. Needs to do the weight much better going forward if he sticks at middleweight.

Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
Good for him, never in a bad fight and leaves it all in the ring
Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
He’s no super middle. I believe he that was so heavy 24hrs before due to the shocking punch resistance on show.
He needs to do the weight better in future if this is true.

14lbs over the day before the weigh in, no wonder the man couldn’t hold a shot

Anyone else to clarify this story?

Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
Not buying that. How do you lose 14lbs in 24 hours ? 48 hours even. Impossible.
Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
This sounds like an excuse to me. Or an exaggeration.
He's made 154 in the past so it's not as though he's a huge MW. It's probably a damage limitation exercise.

he had a little back fat roll and by pro standards was a touch soft (though his fitness was fine).....i wouldnt call him big at 160 at all. if he';s struggling wth the weight its a discipline thing

Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
Makes no sense. Why would a guy in his prime who’s always been known as a disciplined pro be 14lbs over a day before the weigh in. And why would a respected guy like Booth let his fighter get in such a state initially and then let him fight ?
Re: Liam Williams Gets Promotional Contract
Yes ,, Seems a hell of a lot over the day before , almost too hard to believe from a profesional camp ,CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑07 Feb 2022, 22:30 Makes no sense. Maybe his new trainer isn't as hands on with diet as his last one.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑07 Feb 2022, 17:48 Why is he weighing 14 over the limit a day before the weigh in?
