I remember reading before the Pryor fight of a possibility of Arguello vs Leonard which I thought was as ridiculous as Sanchez x Arguello because SRL would win.
BUT,is it possible for Arguello to beat Cuevas?Arguello is definitely far more skilled and be at least equal or better in height, reach & speed.
But can Arguello hurt Cuevas? Can he take Cuevas punch?
I think if Arguello boxed flawlessly he wins a decision .
If he gets caught in a punch out he gets stopped.
Alexis Arguello vs Pipino Cuevas
Re: Alexis Arguello vs Pipino Cuevas
Fascinating bout ! I never would have thought of this one. I have to take Cuevas to stop him- the question, to me, is how long does it last ? Shot for shot, Cuevas hit harder than the much more skilled Pryor. My feeling is that it goes about 9 or 10 rounds before Cuevas stops Arguello.

I think the only way for Arguello to win and it is possible just a big "if" is can he fight the perfect fight because if he gets hit solid,Cuevas is a savage finisher and able to take him out.

Pipino Cuevas by knockout. He was too strong for the Explosive Thin Man.

I am with elmersalsa. And it doesn't even last 5 rounds.
Re: Alexis Arguello vs Pipino Cuevas
The problem for Arguello in a fight like this is he was always hittable, and he would be fighting the hardest hitter of his career. Can't see him not getting KO'd by a prime Pipino
