Sunny Edwards Signs deal with Probellum

Press Release

Probellum has announced the promotional signing of IBF flyweight world champion Sunny Edwards.

Edwards (17-0, 4 knockout) boasts a proven pedigree at the highest level and captured the world title in April of last year when he defeated South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane at York Hall courtesy of a unanimous points decision.

“This is a huge moment in my career and I believe signing for Probellum will help take me on to an even higher level in terms of my all-round performance,” said Sunny.

“Probellum is changing the boxing landscape and providing brilliant opportunities for fighters at all levels. This is a really exciting time to sign, especially given the fact my upcoming title defence against Muhammad Waseem takes place next month.

“Throughout my career, I have shown I possess the ability and work ethic to get to the top. Signing for Probellum will ensure I stay there.”

His first defense of the title came at Probellum’s inaugural show at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena, in December, when he produced a tot performance to overcome of the challenge of Filipino Jayson Mama in the night’s main event.

Edwards will headline the second night of Probellum Evolution, which takes place at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium on March 18 and 19, when he puts his title on the line against Muhammad Waseem (12-1, 8 knockouts), one of Pakistan’s most talented fighters.

The Edwards family boasts a proven boxing pedigree with Sunny’s older brother, Charlie, a former WBC flyweight champion.

“Signing Sunny Edwards, an undefeated world champion, sends out a huge statement of intent,” added Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum.

“Sunny’s reputation within boxing speaks for itself. Not only is he a hugely talented fighter, he also boasts a fierce desire to show fight fans around the world that he is the best, which he has done, and will continue to do in the future.

“We are absolutely thrilled to recruit a boxer of Sunny’s calibre, and with his fight against Muhammad Waseem in Dubai just over a month away, we won’t have to wait long to see him showcase his talent to a global audience.”

Edwards’ title defence against Waseem is supported by a potentially pulsating bout between USA’s Regis Prograis (26-1, 22 knockouts) and Ireland’s Tyrone McKenna (22-2-1, 6 knockouts) on the second night of Probellum Evolution.

It’s good that they’ve got Sunny active but, unless they’ve got a strong TV deal lined up, it’s not going to help his profile and I’m not sure it’ll make fights easier to make. Do Probellum have deals with any of the other champs at Fly? Or champs at SuperFly?

It says Showtime on their recent posters, as does the one above. And he’s hashtagged it too.

We’re 10 days or so away from the fight and still nothing announced re: TV deal. Probellum announced a while back that a TV announcement was imminent. Perhaps they were going after the channel 5 dates similar to Wasserman?

Press Release

Former flyweight king Charlie Edwards wants to make British boxing history by joining his brother Sunny as a reigning world champion.

The 29-year-old has today signed a promotional deal with Probellum, the fastest growing brand in boxing, and firmly set his sights on winning a world crown at a new weight.

The former WBC flyweight champion is aiming to become a two-weight title holder this year and sit with his brother Sunny, who brilliantly defended his IBF flyweight belt at Probellum Evolution in Dubai on Saturday, at the top of the sport.

The dream for Charlie is that he and Sunny could fight for world titles on the same card and with Probellum’s backing, the Surrey-born stylist knows it will become a reality.

“I’ve been a world champion but now I am focused on creating history and leaving a legacy in this sport,” said Edwards (17-1 , 7KO)

“I want titles at super-flyweight and to move through the weight divisions, it is my intention to go down as one of the greatest fighters in British boxing history and I know Probellum share my vision.

“I have no doubt that they can help Sunny and I realise our dream of winning world titles on the same card to create a landmark moment for boxing in this country.

“I have seen first-hand the work Probellum have done with Sunny and how they are superbly promoting the smaller weights because they know we always deliver, pound-for-pound, some of the best fights in the sport.”

Speaking about the announcement, Probellum President, Richard Schaefer added:“We are delighted to have secured the signing of Charlie Edwards, already a world class fighter who has big plans to become a multi-weight world champion.

“Charlie’s attitude and mindset fits perfectly with Probellum’s whole outlook for boxing and we are going to do everything in our power to help deliver those world title shots for him.

“Probellum is all about breaking new ground in boxing and having Charlie and Sunny fighting for world titles on the same card is exactly the type of historic promotion that we are focused on delivering.”

Edwards won the flyweight title in 2018 when he out-pointed Nicaraguan Cristofer Rosales before making a successful defence of the WBC belt the following year against Spain’s Angel Moreno.

The former Great Britain amateur star decided to vacate his belt in late 2019 but after fighting only twice since 2020, Edwards is ready to kick-start his career under the Probellum banner this year.
