Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Both in their primes
Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Bugner was a decent boxer, but not really special. He wouldn't be able to hurt Wilder seriously or take Deontay's best shots. It's possible to see Bugner winning on points until getting caught later on.

Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
wilder didnt even win every round vs art szpilka or eric molina or gerald washington. was down on points in ortiz rematch. he's simply not good enough a boxer to win every round vs joe, but would likely take a decision still.

Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
There is a much better chance that Bugner would be the one pitching the shut out. Outside of punching power, Bugner was better at just about every phase of the game. Bugner also had a good chin, so even if Wilder landed a haymaker, he might survive it. Wilder would have a remote punchers chance, and there is always the chance that Bugner would put in a lackluster perfromance. However, Bugner probably wins this 4 out of 5.
Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Wilder either knocks out Bugner somewhere along the way or loses a UD like 10 rounds to 2 or 11 rounds to 1. Wilder can't box, he can just punch like hell. Bugner can box, can't really punch that great.
Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
The best way Wilder would beat Bugner was out-jabbing him and landing right hands to take a decision or else it would be the other way around with Bugner out-boxing him to take a decision.
Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Lennox Lewis taught Wilder how to jab, but Wilder ignored him as he thought he could just win by right hand bombs against Fury in both rematches, which was turn out to be a disaster for Wilder.
Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Bugner had the tools and chin to cause Wilder a lot of problems but he always went into his shell against punchers.
I don't think he would have given himself a chance to win.

Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Wilder can half ass jab and move. He showed it in the first Stiverne fight. Of course Stiverne barely throws punches, and is slow as hell, but he showed it against him. If Wilder tried to outbox any top guy he'd get his ass handed to him.scorpio83 wrote: ↑09 Feb 2022, 14:20Lennox Lewis taught Wilder how to jab, but Wilder ignored him as he thought he could just win by right hand bombs against Fury in both rematches, which was turn out to be a disaster for Wilder.

Re: Joe Bugner vs. Deontay Wilder
Where does this "always going into a shell against big punchers" come from?
He gave Joe Frazier a tough fight. Lost a close decision against Ron Lyle in a good fight. Those guys were pretty big punchers.
Who worth mentioning did Wilder ever beat?
