Who are the least well known world champions ever? Obviously this is British forum so the lesser known Brit ones are not ‘unknown’ to a British mind. So not talking Paul Weir / Brian Magee etc. i mean globally.

Fair play to them both might not be big names but they won legit world titles and will always have their names in the record books.

More high profile names have tried and failed, at least they took their big chance when they got it.

Who are yours?

Morris East was well-known because of his features. From memory, his father is a black serviceman and his mother, Filipino. Moreover, his fight with Hiranaka was a gut-wrenching thriller with Morris on the verge of defeat several times before outlasting the big-hitting Japanese in one of the best fights of the 1990s. Hiranaka himself ranks as reasonably well-known because he had previously challenged Juan Martin Coggi for the world title, prior to his stunning first-round knockout of Rosario, who could win world titles but never hold on to them.

Yeah he must’ve been and I think Froch* too - he was doing some reality TV dancing at the time.
I’ve searched for the clip, but can’t find it.
The point stands though - the general public know F all and even the “household names” scored really low.

Prior to the Internet, I used to love reading the rankings in the Ring magazine and wondering what the story was behind the names, fighting styles ect. It's great now as anything can be YouTube'd in a second.
