Magee was a full champion - awarded out of the ring and defended (and lost) vs Kessler - Kessler was the champion in recess but he was stripped when they fought.

Nah mate. Eamonns brothers were complete opposites of him. Think there was another one...Niall? Who was even a tee total. If you haven't read his book you, you should. Up there with any boxing biography with a great perspective on the troubles and living through them.

For me, Carl Johanneson was someone who I thought could have went further...
Some of his performances really impressed me, but he just never seemed to make the step up to World level.

Paul McCloskey I think is a good shout. He was someone I was really rooting for but I do think that he strategically made the wrong move accepting the fight against Khan...
If memory serves, the Witld Champs st Light Welter were Amir, Devon Alexander & Tim Bradley... All of which I think would have defeated Paul, but all three had already stated their intention to move up to Welter and chase a Floyd or Manny fight...
Think Paul should have waited and let them move up and slide in there for one of the vacant Championships...

John Duddy was another capable fighter. Seemed to keep on winning but he had a terrible knack of making it hard work for himself and struggling his way through.

Another name that could deserve a mention (I don't think he has been yet) is Frankie Gavin...

Frankie was a great disappointment. I don't follow the Amateurs as much as others, but I remember being told that he was one if the best in the world before he signed to turn pro

Then his professional career was full of injuries, strange career decisions and a real lack of consistency.
He should never have taken that fight against Kell Brook... Frankie would have been better served trying to forge career at Lightweight considering he was such a small frame...
Light Welter at his heaviest but even that, some of those guys made him look small...

Nah it was before then. For some reason I thought he was WBO champ when Jason Mathews stopped him.... I might ve thought he won the title off Silky Jones for some reason though that was way before for the British title. Getting old I guess......

coyle was british level tops, no shame in that but dont think he's really close on this list. tough dude no doubt, but also had some generous matchmaking vs well faded dudes like katsidis and simpson , i think gethin had lost 3 of his last 4 or something too and that fight was strange....gethin dropped him and was in control then basically stopped fighting and retired if i remember

the blasting of dodd was his best win, dodd had been on a good run, including a win over patera. bruezla was the most entertaining. katsisdis......well, mike was so past it then it was more sad than anything.

Frankie was clean i.e. no PEDS, and ill-disciplined diet and cut wise. I'd have more sympathy for him if he had his diet right but it's a sad fact that he was never going to realise his true potential without doping. Heavyweights and cruiserweights are the only divisions I still think it's possible to get to the top without doping (not saying they are all clean, far from it, we know they aren't but I think that you can be strong enough, powerful enough and fit enough to operate at the highest level clean) and I think it's been that way since the seventies.
