it's sparring, with huge gloves and head gear, in an environment where guys usually don't try to lay out their stablemates (sparring wouldnt be sustainable if that happened). i've seen total glass chin fighter be totally unphazed sparring with world class punchers

his chin is totally unproven

I don't 100% agree. It shows he can take some level of punishment. I've seen plenty of alleged tough swallow it in sparring.

sparring wouldnt be sustainable and a pillar of boxing training if guys were getting laid out regularly and dropped left and right by their training partners. huge gloves, head gear, plus different atmosphere makes it a very different thing than a fight. i've seen a guy whose been laid out by club fighters take sergey kovalev's shots no problem in sparring. there are gym wars, though these are often between guys in different camps or a small number of gyms known for it

is there full uncut footage of joyce and fisher sparring? does joe really go all out, trying to brutalize his young, inexperienced training partner? and for how many rounds? would johnny's coach even permit this?

some sparring hearsay is pretty weak evidence of a chin

It's not 100% trustworthy no doubt. John Ruiz was witnessed taking apart Lennox Lewis in a spar, and also that white guy whose name escaped me Paul? Outboxing Mayweather. But I don't think it can all be dismissed as insignificant. Fisher couldnt be in a spar at all with Joyce and Fury unless he had some grit. :TU:

don't agree, as I've said, I've seen a total glass chin spar with kovalev, who was every bit as beastly at lhw as those guys are at hw. he had no grit in pro fights but was totally different in sparring

this guy ...there used to be full sparring session footage online. i think they both trained with abel sanchez for a bit.

totally turned to jelly and all over the place vs 5-13 nathan bedwell, but unmovable sparring kovalev

dropped on his ass by 0-1 harry goupal, but not budged vs kov

brutally ko'd in 1 by rando club fighter, but can go hard rounds vs kov

Maybe Kov was going easy though? Anyway as you say the true test is in the ring. And I think Johnny may have something to offer. But he needs time as he's inexperienced. At this point it's difficult to make a prediction. :TU:

Got to agree with the milk snatcher on this one. Joyce hasn't gone hard with Fisher, he's not a liberty taker in sparring. "Good chin" is code for "very easy to hit". "Powerful" is code for "he's got no craft, telegraphs everything, but he's a big strong lump".

Fook… meant Chris Healey.

Healey's from Stockport, so no Southern Area title for that match.

I like watching Fisher. It's a great story and boxers getting a solid local following is what the sport is all about.

It was too much too soon for him though on fight night. He was breathing heavy after 2 rounds, mostly due to nervous energy. He needs to get acclimatised to these big nights. As well as the expectations of the crowd.

Really looking forward to watching his story unfold.

Thanks! He’s a bit of a nutter in real life it seems. Nice tidy boxer though.

Spadafora fecked himself with booze and drugs but technically he was very good indeed. Never showed it against anyone worth a thing, sadly.

I just reread his story and arrests. It’s a bit like the Johnny Tapia story. He lost his dad young of an overdose and been doing drink and drugs since young. Also was homeless as a teenager

I've only just watched the Fisher fight, I have to ask .. what was all that bizarre arm waving, holding his arm out, shoulder roll business?

Pretty sure the Tibbs haven't imparted that nonsense to him.

He got the shoulder roll from watching allegedly’s interviews on IFL.

Think I remember he was in the running for a fight with Ricky Hatton just before the Tszyu fight came off.

While he is doing his boxing learning in the gym, getting fight night experience is really important too.
Baby steps, he doesn't need to be rushed and let's see how he goes. The Spanish fighter was no bum.
Of course he has a way to go before reaching domestic title level.

Btw expect the next 12 months’ of opponents will weigh 225lbs max. Struggled with the size of the Spaniard which is normal considering he’s only 22 years old.
No way Eddie wants to take risks. He fills out a third of the arena on his own.
That’s tremendous.

Honestly, I think he was knackered. It was just trying to find a way to keep the Spaniard occupied without doing too much.

I like Fisher and he’s likeable but every preview, every fight, every video we’re gonna have to hear the same stuff and it’s gonna be nauseating. Hopefully won’t turn me off him.

“Huge ticket seller” “dad sells so many tickets at local pubs and Chinese” “massive local following” “such a character” “his dads a real character too etc etc “ (dammit even heard that in Adam Smith voice barf!)

I thought that fight was a risk, for a guy who was 4-0 and almost zero amateur background.

surely not much of a risk for a powerful guy with sharp coordination, fast hands and feet, an iron chin, a big gas tank (regardless of clearly tiring in the actual fight rather than sparring), and nice super heavyweight physique! he's got it all

but seriously, it was a good test for him at this stage. he passed it clearly but showed some issues, and in general i think will be an accident waiting to happen if they dont take him carefully. they should prob drop the level a bit for the next couple fights, then give him another enguema type who is durable and has some craft but no power. keep him relatively safe while he keeps getting good gym work in

at 22, there's time to play the long game
