Press Release

The long-simmering rivalry between British superstars Amir Khan and Kell Brook will finally come to a head in a 149-pound catchweight battle Saturday, Feb. 19, at AO Arena in Manchester, England. Roughly 20,000 fans will be in attendance for this British super fight for the ages, which sold out in 10 minutes when tickets went on sale in December.

Promoted by BOXXER, Khan vs. Brook and select undercard fights will stream live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+.

“Kell Brook versus Amir Khan is a fight that has sparked international interest,” said BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom. “This legacy-defining fight between the UK superstars, who have been world champions on American soil, now meet in a final showdown at AO Arena in one of the most eagerly anticipated fights in UK history.”

"I think Kell Brook is very bitter, and this is a good time for me to put the issue straight between us because he has always thought he is the better fighter than me," Khan told Sky Sports. "He's always said he should have had the recognition that I had and believes that should have been him. But at the end of the day, my skills made me the name I am today.”

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Brook said: "This is a real grudge match, there's no love lost in this fight and we both don't like each other. The fans and the pundits can't split us, and that shows how even this fight is going to be."

The 35-year-old Khan (34-5, 21 KOs), from Bolton, England, has been in the spotlight since the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, when he took home a silver medal as a 17-year-old prodigy. As a pro, Khan unified world titles at junior welterweight and fought myriad top names, including Marco Antonio Barrera, Danny Garcia, Marcos Maidana, Paulie Malignaggi, Canelo Alvarez, and Zab Judah. He last fought in July 2019, knocking out former featherweight world champion Billy Dib in four rounds.

Brook (39-3, 27 KOs), a former British champion from Sheffield, England, made three successful defenses of the IBF welterweight world title he won from Shawn Porter in August 2014. His bold 2016 challenge of middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin ended in a fifth-round knockout defeat. He then lost his welterweight title to Errol Spence Jr. via 11th-round knockout the following May. Brook won three consecutive fights before challenging WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford in November 2020. Brook led on two scorecards before being knocked out in the fourth round.

Natasha Jonas to fight for world title on Amir Khan-Kell Brook undercard on February 19, live on Sky Sports Box Office

Amir Khan vs Kell Brook is on February 19, live on Sky Sports Box Office; undercard includes Natasha Jonas' world title shot, Viddal Riley, the Azim brothers, Brad Rea and more...

Natasha Jonas will have a chance to finally become a world champion when she fights Ewa Piatkowska for the vacant WBO super-welterweight championship on the Amir Khan vs Kell Brook undercard on February 19, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The belt that was formerly held by Claressa Shields will be the prize for Jonas against a former two-time WBC champion.

Jonas said: "Before I signed with BOXXER, my management and I had a meeting with Ben Shalom and told him what my goals and ambitions were and what I wanted to achieve before leaving the sport.

"I knew it wouldn't be easy with so many champions tied up but Ben assured me he would make it happen and he hasn't let me down.

"I know it's a big risk but those risky fights have brought out the best in me and I'm ready. I'm looking forward to it, it couldn't be on a bigger show for north-west boxing and after I've boxed I'll be in the crowd myself to enjoy the main event. I am over the moon and I want to step up and get that world championship."

Ben Shalom, BOXXER founder and CEO, said: "Jonas has been a pioneer for female boxing in the UK and we're delighted that we were able to deliver this opportunity for her to add a major world title to her outstanding list of achievements on what will be the biggest British boxing card of the year."

Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, said: "It's absolutely fabulous that Natasha Jonas, one of our leading fighters, has a golden opportunity of lifting the world title on such a huge occasion.

"This is once again a tough challenge for Tasha as she must get through highly-regarded former world champion Ewa Piatkowska.

"It's a cracking chief support fight on the massive Khan-Brook card and a wonderful chance for Tasha to make her boxing dreams finally come true."

Also on the undercard, Manchester's Brad Rea returns to the ring for an eight-round rumble with undefeated Irish southpaw Craig McCarthy.

Manchester's Charlie Schofield will defend the English super-middleweight title against Germaine Browne.

Yorkshire super-featherweight threat Ibrahim Nadim, who trains under Ricky Hatton, will also feature.

Top cruiserweight prospect Viddal Riley and battling brothers Adam Azim and Hassan Azim were already confirmed for the undercard.

Press Release | More Manchester undercard details for Feb. 19th

Also added to the Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook undercard for Saturday, February 19th at the AO Arena in Manchester, England is Manchester’s Brad Rea, who returns in an eight-round middleweight rumble with undefeated Irish southpaw Craig McCarthy. Rea is following up an incredible October battle with Jez Smith. With neither Rea (11-0) nor McCarthy (8-0-1) likely to take a backwards step, another classic firefight could be on the cards. The hometown crowd will be behind Rea but McCarthy won’t be alone either: Manchester has one of the largest Irish populations of any city in the UK, with an estimated one-third of the citizenry drawing some form of Irish descent.

A vocal army of supporters will be in attendance when Manchester super middleweight Charlie Schofield (17-1) makes his first defense of his English title against Germaine ‘G-Man’ Brown (8-0-1). Schofield won the belt with a shutout win over Mickey Ellison in June last year and is intent on a triumphant night for himself and the home fans.

As previously reported, Liverpool's Natasha ‘Miss GB’ Jonas will jump all the way up to 154 to face Poland's Ewa Piatkowska (16-1) for the vacant WBO title

The card also features the professional debut of Olympic bronze medal winner Frazer Clarke; cruiserweight Viddal Riley and brothers Adam Azim and Hassan Azim; plus Yorkshire's Ibrahim Nadim.

According to PADDYPOWER, Kell Brook is 64% certain of defeating Amir Khan (4/7), with the underdog rated by the same website as having a 42% chance of victory (11/8).

The betting odds I’ve quoted for the Brook-Khan fight are pretty consistent for 25 bookmakers (as per the stats supplied by oddschecker).

I’m going to place a bet on the underdog, not just because of the favourable betting odds, but mainly due to my genuine belief that Amir Khan is capable of outpointing (and perhaps even stopping) Kell Brook.

Johnny Nelson (who used to be a long-time member of the Ingle gym in Sheffield) has told the media that he’d advise his former stablemate, Kell Brook, to pay the $137K fine per every pound he’s over the contractually-stipulated 149lbs limit (if he’s struggling to make weight).

And when I saw the Khan-Brook press conference yesterday, Kell looked absolutely massive and wasn’t anywhere near as facially-gaunt as he usually is when he’s trying to make the 147lbs welterweight weight limit.

So I think this might be an intentional tactic that Kell Brook has decided to employ. And if he does this, his size advantage (or the fact he isn't weight-drained) could be a huge factor in the outcome of this fight.

I originally predicted an upset victory for Amir Khan, but if Kell Brook doesn’t even try to make weight, then I can’t help thinking the man from Sheffield will probably win the fight.

This is how Kell Brook usually looks like when he trying to make weight... and then compare his face and bulky physique to the man that attended yesterday's press conference.

Iv bet on khan by ko and was pretty much reliant on Brook being half KO’d by the weight cut, if he intentionally misses weight I’ll be pissed.

I should of accounted for Brook just being fine with missing weight but I did not. Hope he makes it. Either way I still think Brook is actualy slight fave but 5-1 on khan by ko, vs a potentially brittle Brook is too juicey.

Err yes, Brook is looking rather good and goes in as slight favourite.

Both men are in great shape though.

There's still a huge public interest in what could be the fight of the year

They both look in amazing shape. The longer layoff has been Khan and considering his style is based on speed and timing could be the big difference.
I'm sticking with brook taking Khan out in 8 or 9 rounds

A couple of years ago I was confident Brook could beat Khan…now I’m very much on the fence. Brook’s offensive output has been low, and everything else about him has been off. If he’s not able to fight fire with fire he may be overwhelmed by Khans output.

They both have age and mileage related issues.

khan hasnt fought in 3 years and was basically semi retired. in his last run i didnt think he looked all that good anyway, even hitting the deck vs punch bag sam vargas. i dont trust him to be any sharper than brook. brook is more timing based while khan is more pure speed based too, and timing holds up better

brook was ahead vs crawford too remember :OhYes:

Wow 3 years. It’s coming back to me, I actually had Vargas beating him. I also thought Khan literally quit against Crawford, that was significant as Khan was always known for his heart over his brain and chin. I don’t know why but I still feel uneasy about Brook taking this away…it’s a gut feeling.
