Khan unfazed by lack of power.
Amir Khan has admitted that he does not yet have the power to knock opponents clean out, but does not feel it is damaging his fledgling professional career. The 19-year-old has recorded six stoppages in his six pro bouts thus far, but has yet to record a knock-out.
Khan insists he is not fazed by the record and actually believes his lack of power could be doing the sport as a whole some good.
"That will come itself,” he said of his ability to knock out opponents. “I've hurt boxers, I've stopped six but I think it's more of a sting when I hit them.
"As I get older the power is going to develop and the strength is going to come more and more.
”Then I'll start putting boxers to sleep. I'm not concerned about it.
"I think it's brilliant I'm not knocking boxers out, it's good for boxing.
"It's not nice to see people sleeping, knocked out. I think the way I do it is just perfect. At the end of the day it's a sport."
Khan's next outing comes on September 2 in front of his home fans at the Bolton Arena, although his opponent has yet to be confirmed.
It looks certain to be his last fight over six rounds with a switch to eight-round contests now scheduled.
"Hopefully after one more six-round fight I'm going to move up to eight,” Khan continued.
”It will be different but I think I'm ready for it. I spar for six to eight rounds in training."

Everytime i hear quotes from Amir Khan i have to laugh at what a complete bellend he is... the shit he comes out withm un-frickin-believable. "its not nice to see people knocked out... i think its brilliant im not knocking people out"
Your either a puncher or your not. If he cant ice the turkeys hes fighting now dont expect him to be knocking out any world champs (doubt he'll ever get that far though)

calzaghe is a heavy hitter though.glahn wrote:Khan is just like Calzaghe, really. All hand-speed and movement, but no realy one-punch power. He'll probably get a high percentage of stoppages, but very few proper knockouts. Don't think he'll achieve anything like what Calzaghe has though.
he's hurt virtually everyone he's fought and stopped 21 out of 22 before he won his world title.
khan doesn't look much of a puncher at all. but he'll get by on skills for a while yet.
He is only young though it is true his power will come with age.hitman_hatton1 wrote:calzaghe is a heavy hitter though.glahn wrote:Khan is just like Calzaghe, really. Calzaghe got rid of his early opponents with in a round or two.
Infact before he fought Eubank, only 1 guy had gone the distance with him..and only one other had taken him to the 5th round.
Sure Calzaghe is no KO-artist but he is too strong for the mediocre early types prospects get fed.
This is Khans biggest hindrance, non punchers don`t get far...
And the shyte about him thinking thats brilliant
and good for boxing
Didn`t he do an add for Sky magazine or something where he said he loves to KO the guy......but then hopes the guy is OK
The kid spouts shit just by opening his mouth

What total cack he talks. Fed up with the guy already,Warren is now in charge of the new "prince". Fecking knob-ends the 2 of them. Cant wait till he gets ko'd with the first decent guy he comes up against, burst Warrens bubble soon enough. Actually now I'm talking cack, we all know Khan will be fed journeymen for the next 2 years, minimum. Do me a favour stop putting posts up about the golden boy
until he comes up against someone his own weight at least.

Yeah but at least Audley occasionally fought bums from his own division & not soley crusiers.
Oh yeah & Audley never fought guys with zero knockouts either which is a recurring theme with the 'Golden Boy'.
Its gonna be great comedy when they step Khan up to a tough & willing trial horse who drops him on his head & all these 'casual boxing fans' who dont understand the game react in shock & horror.

There must be a new press release about Khan on Warren's site every other day! Talk about overkill. After lambasting Audley Harrison for being in the limelight on the way up Warren is doing the exact same think with Khan the hypocritical tosspot!
If Harrison had turned pro with Warren it would have been exactly the same story, the only difference being he'd still be defending the WBF belt against Cruiserweights and undefeated.

Totally agree with "overhand", normal punters who watch boxing but are not really into the kidology of the game, will be shocked when a good trial horse knocks the feck out of Plastic Khan, biggest hyped up paper boxer of all time. Warren can't slag anyone off anymore about "not taking on quality opposition" he's the biggest joker in the pack, a rich joker mind you, but a joker non the less. Sooner or later punters will get fed up of non fights, they will want to see eager, fresh young guys who aren't afraid of having a 50-50 fight, similar to Muttley v Anderson. Looking forward to Murray v Burns, another two not scared of a tight fight, although wouldn't be surprised if Murray bottles it nearer the fight.
Well he did get floored in the amateurs but that's not much to go on.livingstone cole wrote:You don't neccessarily need power to succeed, but if you've got very little then I suppose you'll need to rely on handspeed - and a good chin would certainly help. How's Kahns? Aside from taking a few when he drops his hands we haven't seen that yet.
However he seems to be fighting non punchers... are they worried about his chin? it's certainly possible
I wish the refs would stop pulling out his oppenents so early so we could see if he did have the power or ability to finish them off, I suppose it must be because it's in the prime time ITV spot.
If Kahn indeed turnsout not to be a big puncher surely he needs to learn how to bide his time and punish people with an accumulation of shots. At the moment all he's learning to do is rush in a try for an early TKO.

Trash Khan has been compared to Oscar De La Hoya, Ray Leonard and Felix Trinidad many times....OK by Warren and McGuiganlivingstone cole wrote:You don't neccessarily need power to succeed, but if you've got very little then I suppose you'll need to rely on handspeed - and a good chin would certainly help. So anything less than a proper title and a proper reign as such will be viewed as an under achievement......and thats when a punch is needed 100%....what other top world class fighter has ever lacked a real punch?...Pernell Whitaker is normally classed as a non-puncher but he got the KO`s against lesser opponents.
It does look as if his people are nervous of his chin....cos why else all the non-punchers he`s faced?
And as for Trash Khans `amazing` hand-speed....the faster he lets his hands go the higher his chin comes up...and with average punch power its only going to take a brave guy with a good punch to catch him out...but that`ll be in about 6yrs time anyway

Khan needs to be less frantic and concentrate on wasting fewer punches. He misses and hits elbows and arms too much for my liking. Another thing, he bounces and moves on his feet too much and unnecessarily ensuring that he will not always be set right to deliver telling punches. If he glided rather than bounced and held his feet more using his height and reach to set up the attacks and pick off his opponents at his range, he would look more impressive and would probably get more leverage on his punches.
Only time will tell how good he is going to be. But a few years in the States under a quality trainer would see a BIG improvement in what I think is a very talented boxer.

How many journeyman pro's do you know who actually have a decent punch?? In the lower divisions especially. If they had a punch, they wouldn't be journeymen. Asking a 19 year old to step up a few levels and fight someone with a real dig is unreasonable. No-one does it.tonyevs wrote:Trash Khan has been compared to Oscar De La Hoya, Ray Leonard and Felix Trinidad many times....OK by Warren and McGuiganlivingstone cole wrote:You don't neccessarily need power to succeed, but if you've got very little then I suppose you'll need to rely on handspeed - and a good chin would certainly help. Amir Khan's totally in a comfort zone. His trainer is only training him because he lives close and is conveniant. This is totally bad news. He needs to leave home and find a real trainer who's gonna push him. He hasn't looked as smooth recently. He needs to go before its too late.

i was watching a couple of sugar ray leonard's early fights the other day. khan could learn an awful lot from watching a guy like leonard. the way he paces himself and it just lets it flow so naturally.
khan will find out the hard way i fear.

Then you have Spinks, Baldomir, Shamba Mitchell and how many times has Hatton been putting guys down with 1 shot?
Khans power will get better as he develops man strength - hes still a kid. I doubt he'll be an ATG but he may get to belt holder status.

mayweather isn't the biggest, but isn't a total powder puff either.
ali was quite a big puncher early on and was 30-0 with 23 ko's, before he went into exile.
your right about spinks and mitchell, although u could argue they have that southpaw advantage of being awkward bastards.
baldomir is a tough rugged guy who can look after himself quite fine without the power.
hopefully khan's power develops.
